UPND president Hakainde Hichilema receives a bouquet of flowers from a little girl on arrival in Kabwe

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has advised Government and citizens to stand firm against violence, and that no-one should face intimidation or harassment for what they believe in.

Mr Hichilema, however, commended non-governmental orgainsations (NGOs) and government institutions that work tirelessly every day to protect the rights of people.

The opposition leader described those who fight to protect human rights as unsung heroes of the country.

This is according to a statement released in Lusaka yesterday by the UPND.

“Today is International Human Rights Day and government must be reminded that it has a fundamental obligation to protect the human rights of all its citizens,” Mr Hichilema said.

He said there is still much work that needs to be done to better protect the human rights of all Zambians.

“If we are not careful to protect our peace and freedoms they can quickly come under threat,” he said.

Mr Hichilema said if elected President he would ensure proper protection of human rights of each and every Zambian, and that he would preserve peace and stability in the country.

He said economic and social development is dependent on good governance.

“Our priorities will be delivering the new constitution, repealing the NGO Act and guaranteeing a media free from government interference,” he said.

Mr Hichilema said there must be proper management of the Public Order Act to prevent its abuse.

“As you can see there is a lot of work to do so I hope we can get started in January,” Mr Hichilema said.

He said everyone must work hard to ensure the peace and stability of Zambia is maintained.

  1. Hero of Humanity.
Don’t vote for PF and Lungu because the all country will be drunkenness, hence no production.
    39 days left!

    • Violence is the signature of PF. Edgar Lungu wants to continue legacy of Sata, he has no vision. All he sees are pangas, knives and all sorts of weaponry. PF can not engage in any intellectual argument. Kaminamisa, please tame your cadre, twapapata

    • Imagine voting for the same looser $4 TIMES in a roll !!

  7. Last time I checked a smoker was our leader. Now if a smoker made it why can’t a drunkard make it.

Voters are not that smart to mind such things, in short such things are inconsequential.

Most voters and bloggers alike vote on ethnic grounds. Ouch truth hates.

Even Bondante bo Muliokela has followers

  8. LT, do not publish this comment. You can keep it blocked like the rest of them. This is feedback against your new employee who appears to be a UPND cadre and is deliberately choosing to block my comments. Your editor should carefully monitor this new cadre who deliberately ignores anti-PF sentiment and publishes your UPND opinions. Forget not that such treatment against readers is what led many from oppressive news blogs to your LT. An exodus from your blog can easily happen again if you keep treating us like this. Be more balanced. Otherwise readers will go to new blogs like Zambian eye and Mwebantu. Stop this nonsense of selective filtering or whatever you call it. Or learn how to you use your simple WordPress packages properly.

  9. At least I have heard HH speak against violence. I have NEVER head the Chief of violence, late Sata or Edgar Lungu his disciple speak against violence. Can you imagine how Zambia will be like if Lungu won? The cadres will be untouchable. They will get your land, they will get your wives, they will beat up, kill anyone they please. You vote Lungu you vote for corruption and rule by cadres.

  10. @figo,
I think you are smarter than what you blog. I can see that you have been paid to write all the PF praises but your selection of words is delivering the opposite effect.
Just accept that you like Kudo and others are about to join team HH.

    • Just get your disciples to reduce the vulgar language/ insults and the like —- then we may be on the same page; otherwise your message will be challenged. Wisen up exe or you decampaign your choice. Simple. Uwide???
