More than two hundred households have been left homeless after Zambia Wildlife Authority officers burnt down their homes for encroaching on Lukusuzi National Park in Lumezi constituency in Lundazi district.
Lumezi Member of Parliament Isaac Banda has told Parliament today that ZAWA officers armed with guns early this morning ordered the affected people out of their homes before setting on fire their Home on firehomes.
Mr Banda says more than one hundred houses have since been burnt by the ZAWA officers.
He says this morning he talked to the provincial Minister so stop the ZAWA officers from destroying people’s houses, but that his efforts were in vain.
Mr Banda who rose on a point of order wondered whether government is order to subject people to the cold and rains by destroying their homes.
In his ruling Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini advised Mr Banda to file an urgent question which will be responded to tomorrow.
Editor, this is an appeal to you i’m asking that you monitor closely your new employee who is obviously a UPND cadre. Monitor this rebel who’s blocking pro-PF opinion. Either you block all sides from being heard or you stop your nonsensical blocking of pro-PF comments. Stiupid UPND cadres have infiltrated your young blog and will cause us to stray to greener pastures like Mwebantu and Zambian eye. You’ve all been bought by a cheap politician. Stop this nonsense
Understood that the people may have encroached there are more humane ways to deal with such situations like forewarning them to prepare to vacate after the rainy season is over while in the meantime identifying an area they would move to.
Correct.
I also have failed to understand why demolition of houses, and now this “arson” are done in the rainy season in Zambia.
Councils, police and other land owners do this when people are most vulnerable.
We need better eviction laws.
This is the beginning of the latest reign of terror Lungu imported from Mugabe ‘s Zimbabwe. This exactly what Mugabe did to all supporters of MDC. He either burt their houses or demolished their houses just like the PF is doing in Zambia. Sata-PF is one to one with ZANU-PF.
LT what is your motive ???? Pls show us a single picture of the burnt houses. We can easily see through you. Post a picture not this plain crude anti government propaganda. Ubufi, bufi . Chapwa
@ Figo: mind your language my young brother. Who doesn’t know that u are one of the Notorious PF Criminals who badly assorted UPND Carders at the Inter City in Lusaka? PF is a cruel party. Look at what they did to the people of Copper belt Province where they demolished all their houses. Edgar Kachasu Lungu is your main sponsor and watch the space, after 20th January, prison will be the home for you and Edgar Chibuku Kachasu Lungu.
That is cruelity of its kind burning houses during rainy season!!!!!. More votes being lost? ZAWA is opposition? The MP should have asked to explain
Too bad for the suffering of those people. The only answer for the people of Eastern Province is to vote for His Excellency the Incoming President of the Republic of Zambia (HH). Failure to do so will result in burning of your maize and rats fields/ your staple food. Vote HH and not the Old Man Rupiah Banda or the drunkard Sick Edgar Kachasu Lungu.
So imwe you see a campaign strategy apapene ??? Get a life vi mabisi namutumpa sana.
What if these people were advised to move away from the Park 2-3 years ago and they don’t comply? In such situations force has to apply. People should lean that encroaching in a national park is not allowed. This issue should not be politicised. It seems this MP doesn’t know that no settlement is allowed in the Park. Let him read the Zambia Wildlife Act No. 12 of 1998 which was enacted during MMD leadership. Learn to understand things you chip politicians.
This is a wake up call to the beloved Easterners. If you vote for PF, even your rats/mouse will be poisoned and u will no longer enjoying game meat. HH is the answer. Don’t even metion the name of Rupiah Banda, he is a spent force. Come 20th January, HH should be your first and last priority. Share this to at least 100 people within Eastern Province
Why use a bemba name when you are clearly a balang’ombe ??? who can you deceive ???
This morning I woke up in a curfew;
O God, I was a prisoner, too – yeah!
Could not recognize the faces standing over me;
They were all dressed in uniforms of brutality. Eh!
How many rivers do we have to cross,
Before we can talk to the boss? Eh!
All that we got, it seems we have lost;
We must have really paid the cost.
(That’s why we gonna be)
Burnin’ and a-lootin’ tonight;
(Say we gonna burn and loot)
Burnin’ and a-lootin’ tonight;
(One more thing)
Burnin’ all pollution tonight;
(Oh, yeah, yeah)
Burnin’ all illusion tonight.
Oh, stop them!
Give me the food and let me grow;
Let the Roots Man take a blow.
All them drugs gonna make you slow now;
It’s not the music of the ghetto. Eh!
Weeping and a-wailin’ tonight;
(Who can stop the tears?)
Weeping…
I thought the mp 4 lumezi ws kafulamchenga
There are ways in dealing with these situations. Where these people told what was going to happen months before and was accommodation provided for them after what was going to happen? You just can’t put matters in your own hands and go charging like *****s. There needs to be order. So where are these displaced people going to go? Does ZAWA have a place for them? What if some have newly born children then what? This is where there is a lack of education and thuggish mentality. Kutumpa Uku ba ZAWA.
zambian officers are over zealous sometimes
We hear ZAWA had continually warned these families.These are not permanent structures,they are seasonal as they farm in the national park where the soil is fertile.None -the less the conduct of ZAWA is inhuman given that it is the rainy season. ZAWA has unwritten rule that “animals are more important than human beings”.
