Forum for Democracy and Development President Edith Nawakwi has taken a swipe at politicians advancing tribal politics.
Ms. Nawakwi has since urged people in the country to ignore such leaders.
Speaking when she addressed FDD supporters in Chipangali Constituency in Chipata District yesterday, the opposition leader said there is only one Zambia with one people and that tribal talk should not be entertained.
She says people should vote on the basis of what the leader is able to deliver and not tribe.
“I want to tell you as a mother that tribalism should die. This is Zambia, the story of tribalism should be peddled by people who are really behind and were born in colonial days.
Our children born from parents of different tribes do not know tribalism, you are wasting time if you are telling children that there is tribalism in Zambia,” Ms Nawakwi said.
She said if people continue promoting tribalism the country will not develop hence the need to ignore those urging people to vote for fellow tribes men using the “wako ni wako” slogan.
She added that as a woman and a mother it is easy for her to convince women and youths to vote for her based on her gender but that would be detrimental to the country.
Meanwhile, the opposition leader has called on farmers in the country to stop supplying their agriculture produce to the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) as that is not helping them.
“How do you take maize to FRA when there is no money to be paid, it is even better you keep and use it when there is shortage of food like now,” she advised.
And Robert Mbewe the Constituency Chairman said 2015 is a year for Ms. Nawakwi to be President of Zambia.
“She is here so that you know her and her vision for this country, we have tried to trust men with governance of the country but have had very little progress in terms of development. So let us give her this chance to govern,” Mr Mbewe said.
The FDD President is in Eastern Province for campaigns ahead of the 20th January 2015 polls.

A tribe is a group of people speaking the same language of the same culture and traditions. Let us just vote for the candidate that can develop the nation and make our country acceptable to other nations. You can imagine that even educated people are thinking along tribal lines. Presidential bye elections should be sorted out by the constitution before 2016. You can imagine how HH had been labelled a tribalist, Satanist,..Freemason etc because of not being from one’s tribe.
