Veteran striker Chipulu Chileya has announced his retirement from active football after being appointed assistant coach at Konkola Mine Police last month.

Chileya, 28, is part of the reconstituted Mine Police bench as the club prepares to compete in Division One after suffering demotion last season.

He joined Mine Police at the start of the 2014 season after spending 11 years at Konkola Blades.

“I just have to admit that I have stopped playing football to concentrate on coaching,” he said.

Chileya was one of most consistent and disciplined players to have graced the FAZ Super League.

“As a player to last long on the pitch you have to be disciplined and level headed on and off the pitch,” he said.

Chileya is delighted to go into coaching.

“I am really happy and I will do my best as officials have shown confidece in me,” he said.

“Since I have just started coaching, I need to stabilise, learn more and become one of the best coaches in Zambia.”
Chileya is a human resource officer at KCM.

  1. Chileya, good decision. Now start looking for improving your coaching credentials. Go to coaching schools. Also talk to coaches that are better than you and find out how they got their training. Don’t fear to talk to coaches like Simutowe, Nyirenda, Janza and other nationally recognized coaches. In short…now is the time to start improving yourself. Best wishes!

  2. Iwe Tubulu! Simutwe is dead. Yes chileya good move, but how do you learn coaching from a team manager? Let KMP recruite a head coach first then you will learn from him.
I saw your training it’s like a team manager ( Peter Tembo ) is the one taking care of the team. KMP ask Ndola Lime who will tell you how tough is Div 1 North League . Lime were in 2013 – Supper League, 2014 – Div 1 and now 2015 Div 2 North League, if not carefull, they may play Div 3 next year. I am not trying to be too critical on KMP and Lime, it’s a friendly football adivise. Wishing both teams all the best in their new leagues.
