The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has said sanity is slowly returning to the notorious Chibolya compound following the concurrent arrests that have been conducted in the area.

DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo said success has been scored in ensuring that calm is restored in the once ‘no-go’ area for law enforcement agencies.

Ms. Katongo said the drugs that people are now being found with are minimal.

“We have continued with the operation in the area and the check-ups have been successful because the people are now trafficking in minimal quantities of drugs such as 1 kg,” she told ZANIS in an interview.

Last year, DEC, a combined team of Zambia Police Service and the Zambia Intelligence Officers successfully raided Chibolya and arrested several people for trafficking in various quantities of cannabis, cocaine and marijuana.

Some of the arrested people have since been tried in the courts of law and jailed accordingly in order to rid the compound of illicit drugs.

  1. Thank you DEC, Police etc.

Surely Zambians cannot afford “islands” of crime in their midst. We cannot afford to deteriorate to the level of Mexico where authorities are alleged to have gone to the extent of handing over defenceless students to gangs for slaughter. Actually, our laws should include a clause in our laws criminalising the utterance of statements like “…such and such a place is a “no go area” for…..” which political thugs are fond of using. Chibolya had become a “no go area” for police and DEC. For whose benefit? This is where MMD needs to apologise to the Zambian people for allowing our society to degenerate to such levels. Chibolya, and any other crime-ridden place should be under constant surveillance until not even a gramme of drugs should be safe to sell…

  2. thats a true lie.these guys have been cleaned from the notourius gaza street and have shifted to mudoka-kamanda street.vyamba business is on as ever.if this is to be contained, involve the community on a token basis operation and see how this will work.most of the boys who sell drugs are jst workers.drug dealers are smart and they play it cool.this war is like u r fighting the ‘boko aram’.people behind this business r nt caught but dis kaponyaz r falling in da trap.

  3. Demolish the township, relocate the people to a “modern” township and develop the area into a shopping centre to decongest Cairo Road. Why don’t we think outside the box for a change!

    • let me guess you want another RSA type Shopping mall to give the Afrikaans more money those people wouldn’t even have tea with you in there homes.
Shopping mall is not development wake up!!
