Christopher Yaluma

Energy Minister Christopher Yaluma says Government has succeeded in containing the fuel shortage that recently hit some parts of the country.

Mr. Yaluma says government has procured enough fuel to sustain the country for a considerable period of time.

The Energy minister has told ZNBC News in an interview that Government has put in place long term planned to ensure that the situation is not repeated.

Meanwhile, Mr. Yaluma says commitment between Zambia and Zimbabwe remains high to ensure the shared Zambezi River produces more electricity and continues to improve livelihoods for people of the two countries.

Mr.Yaluma who is the current Chair of the Zambezi River Authority Council of Ministers, says there is need for the two countries to remain focused to achieve and meet the expectations of the people of Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Mercy Ngoma reports that he said this in Victoria Falls Town, Zimbabwe during the Council of Ministers meeting held at the Elephant Hill Hotel.

  1. Don’t take these PF bafoons on face value…first they refused there was no fuel shortage, and now this…Anyhow, most of the voters had over expected from PF’s ECL…these chaps are totally a joke!

    • THAT WAS QUICK, WHAT A REMARKABLE RECOVERY!!! SO THE PRESIDO WAS RIGHT- IT WAS A SABOTAGE. SELFISH POLITICIANS

    • Mr. Yaluma, you’re an ldiot! You told us there was enough fuel and that there was no fuel crisis. So, how can a crisis be over if it didn’t exist in the first place?

    • This was a good opportunity for the minister to step down. For once ministers and government should take responsibility for their failures. It’s the only way we’d ensure accountability and seriousness from public servants. If a minister or whoever was responsible doesn’t resign, the president should drop them. Some deterrent measure should be taken, not just a loose statement like that. Imagine the millions of kwacha that were lost as a result of that shortage. I wish someone could sue the minister for loss of income caused by that shortage.

    • @wise
You are absolutely spot on…how can you take stock and move forward if there is nobody to take responsibility for failures BUT then again it takes a sincere and honest individual to step down a trait that is vacant in these empty tins from State House right down to their panga wielding cadres.

    • Yaluma you said there was no fuel shortage. Then you said the fuel shortage has been created by panic buying and people storing fuel. What type of Storgae does one have to store fuel? Now you are saying the fuel shortage is over. Yesterday I went to buy fuel from Arcades around 17:00 hrs and I was told that I was lucky because they had just finished off loading and that there had been no fuel since morning.
What will you tell us next? Tell the truth from the beginning and everyone will respect you for it.

    • Rejecting mediocrity from leadership is not “hate” The reason why Africa is backward/retrogressive is because its full of docile people like you who are voting and clapping for failures because you are from the same tribe or are benefiting from the crap. The politicians are being paid tax payers money to do their job and if they can’t do it well we shouldn’t be afraid to speak out as in this case. They owe the Zambian quality service for they pay they are drawing from government. nobody owes them love as you seem to suggest here.

    • True @ (2.1, Wakeup)
A huge majority of Zambians are So Backward, it will take another 100years for them to wake up, & see the light!
This poor excuse for an Energy minister, has been recieving a wage- (tax payers money), whilst sitting in his office doing nothing but twiddle his thumbs, as the Country experiences fuel shortages that should NOT happen in this day & age.
Critisizing such is Not hate!! Africa will remain in the dark ages, because such mediocrity is accepted as a norm.
When will this sorry excuse for a minister resign from his job?
I guess that would be aiming too high, as Failure is always embraced & praised, in our Underdeveloped nations, so this “Belly Politician” will continue to eat, while doing nothing to deserve his job, & pay

  2. THAT WAS QUICK, WHAT A REMARKABLE RECOVERY!!! SO THE PRESIDO WAS RIGHT- IT WAS A SABOTAGE. SELFISH POLITICIANS

    • The only way ministers and all govt officials will produce results is to ensure that they are accountable for their failures to achieve. They step down or the president fires them.
In Zambia being a minister is all about swanning around in an official car, living in a nice house, receiving fat allowances at the tax payer’s expense. To top it all, being arrogant and corrupt.

  3. Is it not this same Yaluma who lied in parliament that there was enough fuel in stock reserve tanks in Lusaka? Hope he is not lying again.

  4. Of course he is. It is their speciality in PF, lies in the morning, afternoon and night (((24/7)/( 365))/( and soon to be 5)). Please do not give them another 5.

    • @Spellcheck, my thoughts too exactly.
Goes to show why a liar has to have a good memory to avoid contradicting his earlier lies, whereas telling the truth does not need a good memory. Simply tell the truth.

But then again, since PF’s ideology is ‘Don’t Kubeba’, telling the truth is a breach, and sackable offence.

  5. Infact as I said he is lying because I was in mufulira yesterday in the copperbelt I found queues at filling stations waiting for fuel because it was not there.

  6. These are utterly vision-less empty tins who are absolutely clueless entities, your President Edgar Lazy is in Namibia partying with his mentor and puppet master Rupiah, which president on this earth in his right mind would have someone with cases in our courts in his entourage… why don’t you ask the empty tin Yaluma at what price to the taxpayer has the shambles cost them?

Zambians wake up from your DOCILITY!!

    • “Jesus” Brings Chipata Town To A Standstill- As Panic And Confusion Erupts,

Business in Malawi’s western town of Chipata came to a standstill after ‘Jesus’ arrived.

Drama ensued when a white tourist dressed in a white robe was mistaken for ‘Jesus’ – the son of God – by the residents.

Believers, largely drawn from the Christian side, scrambled to interact with ‘Jesus’ and showed him with gifts including chicken, goat, money and other valuables.

The locals further went ahead to confess their sins to him saying that the Biblical prophecy on the second coming of ‘Jesus’ had been fulfilled.

The residents were shocked later after details emerged that the man was not ‘Jesus’ but a Italian tourist identified as Antonio Boreti who was on a visit to Zambia.
      Mr. Boreti enjoyed the…

    • True. The fact “Agwa Chagwa” is hanging out with R.B, is not a mystery.
Taxpayers money is being siphoned off as we speak. Would’nt be surprised that the current fuel shortage has been engineered, so R.B, can use his corrupt contacts, to supply us dodgy Nigerian oil, at an extortionate price, while the spoils are shared by R.B, & Chagwa, & co.
Chagwa is “A Lawyer” so why on earth is he mollycoddling to, & dragging along a Man accused of serious crimes currently pending in court, like embezelling State coffers?? We are not talking of a simple misdemeanor, like a minor driving offence here.
You dont need to be a Rocket Scientist, to know why Chagwa is in bed with R.B.

  7. The critics are still not happy!

It’s so strange. Why do opposition and it’s cadres pull the country down, time and again? They are not patriots and are so lost in hate that you wonder why they think Zambian voters would consider them.

PF are juggling difficult circumstances and requirements in a hostile environment. We are pleased with the resolved fuel shortage. We are not Texas, we don’t have oil in our back yard on tap!

Even here in Europe, you see queues for fuel periodically! We as humans need to stop this reliance on machines and fossil fuels. Cycle lanes should be built alongside main roads and people must try cycling.

    • Which part of Europe are you referring to where there is fuel shortages? Boza. You don’t have to be a fuel producer to plan for reserves. Nigeria is an example of a country that sometimes has fuel shortages despite being a major producer. Simply poor planning and finishing!

    • @10.1 Donqueen

The UK has had problems from time to time. In fact there was even longer queues at petrol stations and protests early 2000s. The cost of fuel is always an issue.

It’s not boza. Considering UK has Shell and other fuel producing conglomerates.

There is an environmental awareness of the extinction of fossil fuels. Most advanced countries are into bio fuels development as a result.

Please educate yourself on fuels. We don’t produce it ( maybe refine it)and are highly dependent on foreign sources.

    • Where in Europe have had fuel disruptions due to middle men or a flawed fuel tender and procurement system? Tell us about disruptions that had nothing to do with weather or strikes.
These are the selfsame people who set up a commission of inquiry immediately they came in power in 2011 do you honestly think if they honest enough to rectify the flaws of this system do you think you would have this?

      Wake up from your docility!!

    • @Jay Jay

I don’t understand the bizarre obsession with comparing African Developing Countries to Developed Advanced Economies!

      Are you serious?

You are being argumentative and nothing constructive is coming out of your arguments. Your social media persona always presents with disgruntled comparisons with the Western world and it seems to be a problem with proper cognitive functions.

If the kwacha is performing poorly as we are constantly told then rely there will have to be some hiccups. No use just banging on about things without accepting the causes. This has been useful for the gov’t to check its supply/supplier system. Rogue middlemen have been put on the spot and future attempts at disruption will be prevented.

As for Western problems with fuel, the cost of fuel…

    • @Patriot Abroad
I remember the fuel shortage of 2000 like yesterday, six out of the country’s nine oil refineries and four distribution depots in the UK were subject to blockades by picketing lorry drivers, haulers and irate farmers backed by the influential farmers union at the time…who were protesting against the high price of fuel at the pump. Nothing to do with incompetent and corrupt leaders like Yaluma.
I tell you what the Labour government at the time, put in measures to stop future protests of that nature.

    • @Jay Jay

We can talk all day about middle men and the differences in causes of fuel disruptions in advanced countries versus causes of fuel disruptions in developing countries. In Nigeria it’s corruption and the pattern of privatising/foreign conglomerate ‘investors’ that shut the majority of Nigerians out of fuel consumption. Most goes to Western countries while the people have none right on their own doorstep. The politicians steal the oil money and open Swiss accounts etc. etc.

It’s widely accepted that the other covert reason USA pushed the Iraqi war was Oil supply protection. USA consumes more than a quarter of the worlds supply of fossil fuels. The lifestyle changes to this fuel over consumption and dependency is being targeted.

    • Read your main and tell me who is obsessed with comparing to Europe…I’m not going to seat by and let you cheat people about “advanced” economies as you call them suffering similar fuel shortages like what is happening in Zambia.
The Zambian government is a mirror of European style of governance, the Executive, Legislative and Judicial, everything was copied from there…why is it that when someone points to our flawed governance in comparison to Europe one is vilified?

    • The bigger issue in relation to oil consumption is not the method of disruption to supply.

It’s not about middlemen or fuel shortages caused by industrial actions, but rather that we need to plan our resources around our economic capability and with environmental issues in mind.

I personally believe that less private cars on the roads the better. We need to improve public transport and other ‘vehicle pooling’ facilities like buses so we consume less fossil fuels. Again, a country like Zambia should improve bicycling facilities like lanes or even untarred lanes into city centre. Chipata is one where previous bike factory has left a good cycling habit.

Major causes of death are road accidents, how many Lives did we inconsequently save with this fuel blip????!

    • @Patriot Abroad
You are the type of people I came across in Zambia during the campaigns of the just ended Presidential elections….people in Zambia think corruption is part of life and it is normal just like load-shedding. You are the selfsame people who think its normal for every government to steal something the Lungu supporters were pointing to this fact every time I called for a new fresh candidate to be given a chance for 18 months.
Zambia’s fuel shortage is due to a corruptly flawed tender and procurement system…which should have been corrected but due to greed our politicians Sata and Co couldn’t.

      Wake up!!

    • Also, much as middle men in Europe and USA are not so disruptive, there are Oil Cartels that have us world consumers on a leash. At any time they can withhold supply to affect Market forces towards their liking. In deed the Middle East do frequently tamper with supply and agree among themselves. There are many Oil Cartels in thevUSA, they are just not so disruptive as ours who go for broke.

Western countries have the might to deal with corrupt and disruptive middlemen. Look how long it takes our judiciary to put on trial corrupt Gov’t Offiers! These thugs that cause these sort of disruptions and citizen misery are the ones we should be angry at.

Corruption is difficult to deal with in Africa because the buggers take the money and use it to prevent prosecution.

    • You will debate about flaws in other countries and contradict yourself like a dog trying to bite its tail but discuss your own..its very sad…if you still don’t understand why we are not impressed with Yaluma in the article and the contribution of other bloggers…then only God can help you!!

    • @Jay Jay

Quoting you on ‘corruptly flawed tender and procurement system…which should have been corrected but due to greed our politicians Sata and Co couldn’t.’ The current gov’t is.

Currently we have a fine example in our superb gov’t taking 2 gov’t employees to court for that type of corruption. The current cases of the husband and wife team Mwetwa and Mwewa who have been arrested by the ACC just a day ago or so. Those cases are in the mold you complain about and are examples of the gov’t taking its own PF Officers to court over wrongful procurement procedures.

That is a fine example of why we elected His Excellency president Lungu. I expect in a few months to see some corruption charges brought forward over this supply blip if it has been caused by supply corruption…

    • Patriot, I have lived in the UK for years which has millions more cars than Zambia has yet this problem of fuel shortage has been seen once. Whichever partof Europe you are in must be one of these Eastern countries. And there are fuel shortages there, it does not mean Zambia should also have them. Most African leaders do not not how to have reserves because countries are run like their homes, personal to holder. “Bungal bwasila,” they take out money and buy. “Tomato yasila” just like that. Sadly they haven’t realised that a country cannot be run likea that. They are repercussions.

  8. At times you wish Jesus was around. He could whip these guys who “solve a non crisis”. Low life ministers is all we have in most ministries.

  9. This fuel crisis was staged in order to introduce a new supplier. Watch over the next few weeks as a supplier of fuel products under Rupiah Banda’s government returns. The fuel contract is one from which the issuing authorities are easily able to ask for kickbacks. With the elections just around the corner what easier mechanism is there for The PF government to solicit funds to fight the election other than to benefit from the fuel contract.Rupiah Banda and his son’s benefitted enormously from the supply of fuel to the country when he was president. To Rupiah Banda and his sons, the PF government and the fuel suppliers this is a timely warning. Your hour of reckoning is fast approaching. The people of Zambia will soon demand their pound of flesh.

    • You may have a point there no wonder one Summer Kabimba has come out from the woodworks as he stands to lose, everything from disbanding of ZAWA should be viewed with suspicion.
Edgar Lazy is simply paying back his I.O.Us he signed a pact with the devil…I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a Nigerian company involved.

  10. The Watchdog bloggers have all shifted here now because nobody reads their highly polarized paper – because their reporters have already insulted ECL in the articles, it has become uninteresting for their bloggers to add any extra insults!!!! Very soon as the country continues to make progress, you will see how irrelevant they will become.

    • @Jay Jay your UPND and HH will not win 2016 elections you can insult ECL all you like but believe me he will thump yo HH who will lose 5 times in a row. Is HH the only candidate you have?Kikikiki. …..

  11. Can the senseless critics please take a break for a while and give Edgar a chance to work? We are tired of your senseless ranting, what time do you work? If you are expecting Edgar to deliver a bag of mealie meal to your door step, you got it wrong for no President does that anywhere in the world, now, in the past, or in the future. So get your ass off that stool and start doing something for your family before they starve to death!
