President Edgar Lungu is in Northern Province for a two day official visit.

President Lungu has commissioned the Lunzuwa Hydro power station which has been upgraded from 0.75 mega watts to 14.8 mega watts at the cost of 52 million US dollars in Mpulungu district.

The Lunzuwa hydro power station will service consumers in Mbala, Mpulungu and some parts of Kasama with excess power to be exported to Tanzania.

Government engaged a Chinese Contractor to work on the project which started in August 2011 and has been completed this year.

Meanwhile, President Lungu is tomorrow expected to hold three political rallies in Mbala to drum up support for the PF candidate, Kapembwa Simbao for the April 14th Senga Hill constituency parliamentary bye-election.

Mr. Lungu will address the first rally at Tanzuka primary school ground in the morning followed by another one at Mambwe Mission school before winding up with a rally at Senga Hill market.

The President will also commission the solar grinding mill in Chief Mpande’s area.

This is according to the programme released to ZANIS by Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Hlobotha Nkunika.

  1. That is a workin president we have, very healthy.we in kitwe will make sure wr kolopa them again.infact the kolopalin is gona b so hard that I see sum pipo gettin admitted in hospital for bp

    • HH must be in a corner somewhere leaking his wounds. He thought Lungu will go in hibernation after that scandalous, ” nothing to see here” , false prescription surfaced. I want Lungu’s immune system because for a person who is HIV+, dialysis dependent, has cirrhosis and throat cancer and still perform his duties is nothing short of a miracle.

    • God in His infinite wisdom has given us yet another tourist president. In the minds of the gullible, however, that is evidence enough he is a hard working president. How easily we get carried away by imitations and pretense! The truth of the matter is that president Lungu, being the astute politician he has proved to be, is merely on a campaign trail for 2016. And why must we fault him for that anyway?

    • But why export power to TZ when somewhere else power is needed in the country?

    • WOW WOW WOW!

After 3 months of Hon Edgar Lungu becoming the president of Zambia, its really the first time & day to see him realistically working. This is good news not fighting over diseases in public.

Good that the project is finished & hope no more load shedding. As a gesture of accountability to this good news, now how much will the PF govt incommunicado with Zesco be making in PROFITS for the exportation of electricity in Tanzania? If so, the profits should vested in job creation & maintenance of the facility.

Now that’s working Mr. Lungu, seems the vision is on vivid mode.Well done!

Mr. President, the economy & kwacha are still in juggernauts, stop wasting tax payers monies on trivial tribunals & save!

      The Skeleton Key

      WOW.

    • Offial visit? Is he a visitor in his own country? Lusaka Times, polish up your act! He commissions a project and then hits the party campaign trail; I suppose it is difficult to come up with a befitting headline.

  2. Success speaks, critics are silenced. No comments from the ‘Kwacha’ observers worth noting here.

  3. Hah hah hah!!!!!!!!!!!! why are you rushing to health issues, be real you seem to be worried of some unknowns tell us what is back in your mind!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. This power station is important to mbala, mpulungu and some parts of Kasama. It will accelerate economic development in towns like Mpulungu and Mbala which have had load shedding for so many years. Many thanks to the government for this power station.

  5. Why chines contractors,do u mean zambians cant build a hydro power?whats the purpose of universities and proud if we cant do simple projects.

    • You have you eva seen that us zambians have completed a project ? What we are best in doing is just taking the moneys and thyola waphya munzi , run with the money so don’t be ignorant its best to give international companies anyone who wants to object please let’s talk and have a free discusion on this. Topic

  6. EXCESS POWER MUST BE EXPORTED TO OTHER PARTS OF ZAMBIA AND CONSUMED IN ZAMBIA TO REDUCE POWER CUTS. WHO EVER SUGGESTED EXPORTING EXCESS POWER IS AN !DIOT. HE DOESN’T THINK. HOW CAN HE/THEY THINK OF EXPORTING LEAVING THE PRODUCERS (ZAMBIANS) IN DARKNESS. YOU ARE ABSOLUTE ID!OTS YOU GUYS. SATISFY DEMAND IN ZAMBIA, FIRST BEFORE YOU THINK OF CREATING LOOPHOLES FOR STEALING.

    • What is wrong with the idea of KILLING TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE? Instead of making two separate trips to NP to commission this project and then go back there again for campaigns, the president combines the two potential trips, save taxpayers’ money in the process, and you are busy fiooto, fiooto, fiooto, complaining about that!? Because you know very well that he could have separated the two tasks/trips if he wanted to, right?

This is the problem with vitriol and excessive partisanship, it blinds people. STOP AND THINK FIRST PEOPLE!!!!

  7. Well done president Edgar Lungu!!let vuvuzelas in opposition continue with their newspaper politics while PF fulfil projects!!!WE WILL KOLOPA.COM THEM IN 2016!!!plus please ECL put more money in masaiti,Chawama and Senga Hill by elections so that tribal HH can be silenced once more on 14/04/2015 after losing!!!!BRAVO ECL AND VIVA PF!!!

  8. I can’t remember when there was such a big project in recent years. This is BIG for not the people of that area, but Zambia at large. Congratulations ECL and PF. !!!

  9. Lusaka Times. What standard of education did you reach? You always fail to caption your photos with more imagination.
I am sorry but this is an international embarrassment. If you do not have anything to say, you could perhaps just say- ‘photos of President Lungu’s visit to Lunzua.’ 1, 2, 3, 4,…n
Every one knows President Lungu in the photos, but the other people needed to be introduced.

    • @12, I ALWAYS WONDER HOW LT FAILS TO ANNOTATE IMAGES. ALL IMAGES HAVE ONE CAPTION/ANNOTATION IF THE READERSHIP IS LUCKY. THE WORST PART IS THAT THEY DON’T EVEN LISTEN TO COMPLAINTS. IT’S SAD HOW PROFESSIONALISM HAS COMPLETELY GONE TO DOGS IN ZAMBIA. OR IS IT DOGS THAT HAVE GONE TO PROFESSIONALISM?

  10. RB should teach this Ka ma ba sta rd of ELO LWANYA to what happened in 2011 ,the warthog was busy commissioning projects one after another only to be WALLOPED by the party he has hijacked now.
Thought it was a lesson .
NWAY SENGA HILL IS FOR GILES YAMBA YAMBA .
Whether giraffe or ostrich commissions Lunzuwa its GILES YAMBA YAMBA not RB @ KAPEMBWA SIMBAO WE HAVE REFUSED

VIVA GILES YAMBA YAMBA SENGA HILL FOR YOU .
    DONT LET THEM RIG IT

  11. Lunzua power sounds like Lungu-a-power .

Well,it might as well be renamed bcoz we easterners have the presidency and we’ll use that power to repay these nasty bembas with painful lessons.

    • More projects are coming, you think the president went for a holiday to China.Wina azalila, just wait and see. Most of you haters will soon leave this site and go back to where you belong or disappear completely in oblivion. Give gratitude where its due.
