President Edgar Lungu has castigated news outlets for allegedly attacking him warning that they risk losing readership.
In an apparent attack on the Post Newspapers, President Lungu said it is unprofessional for some newspapers to continue attacking him every day for the last three months.
He warned that such newspapers will further lose readership which he said has dwindled in the recent past.
President who spoke mostly in Nyanja was addressing a mammoth rally at Chawama grounds to drum up support for PF Chawama constituency by election candidate Lawrence Sichalwe.
‘Mwaibwelamo fimo, otherwise balimisula akale, balamisulillako, mwalapwafye nama sales yalachita drop (You should restrain yourselves sometimes otherwise you will be discredited, you are already discredited but you will be more discredited and your sales will drop,’ President Lungu said.
He added, ‘You will have no readership, what kind of a newspaper talks about one person for three months? ukomailapofye, three months Edgar Lungu, Chagwa Chagwa, Chagwa, Chawa, lekani nimuuze uyumutu ngasanzela, one day nizaka kugwila! You keep stressing the same thing for three months, Edgar Lungu, Chagwa Chagwa Chagwa, let me warm this person if he doesn’t listen, one day i will arrest you!’
At the same rally, President Lungu directed the Road Development Agency to award some contracts under the L400 to local contractors.
He said the pace at which the L400 road project is progressing is slow and worrying hence the need to speed up works.
President Lungu said the L400 road project is one which late President Michael Sata wanted executed diligently.
He said the PF government is committed to completing 400 kilometres of township roads which was launched in Chawama in 2013.
President Lungu urged all contractors working on the project to speed up the works so that people can see the project come to completion.
He said local participation in road projects is important as a way of empowering local contractors.
At the same rally, UPND member of the National Management Committee Paul Moonga rejoined the PF declaring that President Lungu is a better candidate that Hakainde Hichilema
He said he comes from the same village as Mr Hichilema but that after reflection and introspection, he has come to see that President Lungu has humility and a sense of unity for Zambia.
