Kabwe woman stripped naked for indecent dressing

Share

AN UNIDENTIFIED middle aged woman of Kabwe was on Wednesday completely stripped naked by a horde of youths who accused her of indecent dressing but the Young Women Christian Association has condemned the act.

The incident which attracted the attention of many onlookers occurred in the morning near Zambeef store as the woman who was dressed in skimpy skirt exposing more than half her thighs walked the corridors.

Eye witnesses told the Daily Nation in Kabwe that the woman’s dressing attracted running commentaries among taxi drivers and other passers-by who ordered her to buy a Chitenge wrapper and dress decently but the woman instead told off her critics.

“She was just politely advised to buy a Chitenge and wrap her body but she answered very rudely and that is what caused the youths to descend upon her and strip her completely naked and even the bra and under wears were removed, it was so embarrassing,” lamented the witness while others argued that she deserved the punishment.

The witness said when the woman sensed danger, she fled the scene and jumped into a taxi nearby but the unruly youths pursued her and got her from the taxi and completely stripped her clothes.

Efforts by other women to donate the Chitenge to the victim still yielded no results as the mob kept tearing any piece of garment on her.

“We want to warn women to dress decently, we carried out the punishment because she was already naked so we just completed the exercise and we will continue doing so to others,” said one of the youths who personally confessed to taking part in the act.

Meanwhile,YWCA central region coordinator Juliet Kawanda has condemned the act, calling it an assault on women.

Through KNC radio, Ms. Kawanda advised citizens against taking the law into their own hands.

She said if people noticed such wrongs, the right thing to do was to report such to police and allow the police to take action.

“There is a law against indecent exposure, and instead of taking the law in their own hands by undressing a person the right thing to do is to report such a matter to the police and allow the due process of the law to take its course,” she said.

Recently another woman was stripped naked in Lusaka for indecent dressing.

  1. Those are upnd girls. Very rude to the core trying to offload the anger of losing losing election. You should have just left her.

    • The police are busy chasing thieves and have got no time for naked adult women.

Why cant women just get it – Zambia is not America or England where adult women roam around streets naked like wild pigs! Our descent cultures and morals are different and far much better than those of Europeans!!

Even other nationalities observe and respect their cultures and morals like the Greeks, Indians, Arabs, etc. They dont just copy everything even homosexuality from the Europeans!

The positive lesson from this icident is that woman will never do it again and many other women will never go around Kabwe naked – a good deterent to moral decay which the police can never be!!
Well done boys – drinks on me next time to celebrate your bravery!!

    • Our history proves our women only wore loin cloths, what are you baboons on about with this animal behavior. These are the same baboons that when caught raping someone will say its because I saw her thigh, even dogs dont operate like that. Animals have higher level dignity and self respect than you do.

    • What an I d i o t. Yes UPND is updated futuristic. Not backward like the likes of sponge dum @$$

    • Chilyata you need to go to school and while you are there learn, not just pass the exams. Who tells you that africans consider being dressed as part of their morals? Africans were told to dress up by missionaries and colonisers. African morality did not stretch to how you dress. You are one of the robots that Europeans programmed to harass anyone not doing what she was taught by the European. A person should dress the way she wants not the way you male chauvinist think she should dress.

    • You are an empty vessel; what has politics got to do with dressing. You are a waste of space as a blogger you panga warrior.

  2. In Kabwe the peple are very annoyed because they have been cheated by the pf that jobs will be created through the opening of mulungushi textiles…but alas to no avail donchi kubeba. Yesterday labour day was a floppy…hahahaaa

    • tell your sister not to go about naked in the first place; above all, your mother!? she shouldn’t even imagine dressing like an american lunatic. you mother picking up a moral standard from nicky minaj sure? you ought to rebuke her please. she stops being mother until she changes her ways! lets preserve moral standards. development is not moral degradation!

  3. Two wrongs do not make a right. She had done wrong by dressing indecently but undressing her publicly was equally wrong. Here in Kenya boys used to undress them women Mps cried foul and a new clause was introduced in parliament where one is jailed for 2 yrs without the option of a fine for undressing them. They ( Mps) introduced the phrase “My dress, my Choice”. Now they just dress anyhowly and pass past the former strippers provocatively. The boys just stare at them dumbfoundedly. However, its morally and cultturally wrong.

    • hmm.. ati “anyhowly”. That’s a new level of expression.

Otherwise I agree with you when you say two wrongs don’t make a right. The woman would have done well to carry a small chitenge wrap in her handbag for the unexpected.

  4. The whole incident must have taken not less than 8 maybe 10 minutes, you mean there was no single cop nearby in all this time to react??

    • A cop might have been there and watching.
Ever seen the stance of Zed cops at events that call for their action? Men and women standing with their hands behind them, nabasokola na hip.

Cops only get to act when there is an opportunity to make money. They will intimidate you, torture you till you can cough out that K800. Good for nothing bloody suckers!

Few of them are ok, though. But the majority sucks!

  5. What is ‘decent dressing’ in the African context? How did our women dress before adopting colonial clothes? Next we will be demanding women to wear burqas like in Afghanistan.

    • In Norway its normal to see ladies in underpants. Is that the case in South Africa also and if not then why not. Lets not just copy whatever we see because we saw it in another country otherwise even those people we copy from will finally realize that probably we cant reason on our own

  6. The hooligans should be locked up. When are going to transcend from this level of barbarism? We are so backward as a nation. Women must be allowed to express themselves in which ever manner of dress they are comfortable with. The lady should press charges against her assailants. They are the ones who stripped and dehumanised her. Bafi….

  7. Before whites came in the 1890s black women used to walk bare-breasted with thong-like animal skin pants only so what is the fuss about?

  8. yaaah! well done GUYZ. ITS high time we zedean became proud of wwho we are, what we wear, eat and be rather than spending time copying fashions and morals from the western cultures..thats why na kwacha yiponena lonse coz we cant promote our own made staff…kamo fye ifyakuba sungu…

    • Fake a$$ psychologist. Go back and read your history books and find out how your people dressed BEFORE the westerners came and gave you their clothing.

    • Princess,

Those are the lies you have been fed that we were butt naked before the arrival of the white. No my friend. We had ifilundu, if you really want to get down.

But remember, civilization ran down the Nile. We took the technology the African region boasts of in its pages of history to the North. From South to North. Make I remind you, before the whites came, we traversed the earth! That’s how come we are everywhere!

The Sahara, contrary to his-story was man made. Find out how.

      Stop munching on lies, please!

  9. How come we don’t hear any complaints about the indecency practiced by our menfolk ? So many of our men go around with the waist band of their trousers/shorts almost down around their knees – exposing their not too clean underpants for all to see. So, so many men urinate in public exposing their penis and creating a health hazard into the bargain. I have yet to hear of any brave youths attacking this disgraceful form of indecency. But then of course, women are easy targets for such bullies.

    • The only comment I have seen that is spot on. Many here are just parroting how she deserved the stripping as a punishment fpr indecent dressing. I just feel like weeping to see a nation so ‘Holier than thou’. The Onlookers are reported to have said that ,’She was just advised to dress decently but answered so rudely’. So she deserved to be stripped naked!

In the first place these thugs want people to be dressed decently. If you can’t stand indecency, I am NOT SURE you can stand NAKEDNESS of a middle woman 45+ years). So you can see it’s just the work of thugs, and we have bloggers here talking about Zambia not being America. What a load of bull***t!

You wonder why we so backward with stone-age mentality like we area Islamic state

  10. This is s t u p i d !!!! First all, for all those stating she wasn’t decently dressed and don’t copy the Europeans, do you actually know the history of your own clothing?!!!! You copied the same Europeans by wearing clothes and I’m sure what she was wearing was nothing in comparison to how the Wuropeans found you. Wake up people, you need to think outside the damn box!!

    • Princess,

You need some real education about your past. Quit listening to the whiteman, puliiiiiiz!

Those are the lies you have been fed that we were butt naked on a zebra before the arrival of the white. No my friend. We had ifilundu before the white was even born, if you really want to get down. We had kingdoms and the early whites worked as servants in those ‘doms. What went on between Zangaro and Lake Victoria, do you know?

Remember, civilization ran down the Nile. We took the technology the African region boasts of in its pages of history to the North. From South to North. Make I remind you, before the whites came, we traversed the earth! That’s how come we are everywhere!

The Sahara, contrary to his-story was man made. Find out how.

      Stop munching on lies, please!

    • Thanks!

In any case, has anyone come up with a Yardstick Skirt Shortness that we can use to STRIP INDECENTLY dressed Women? If not, how do you make sure the person being stripped really wore a short SKIRT. The point is that you cannot justify the action of these Street Thugs.

I grew GOOSE PIMPLES to hear people right here talk about Decency!!! That ship sailed, Zambia is full of indecency. Go to Manda Hill, Arcades etc you will see mini skirts. I DON’T LIKE them and I ask my wife to not use them. BUT i cannot ATTACK those who do. It’s a civilised world. If they are breaking laws, let the Police take charge.

For some people to EVEN say she deserved it makes me re-affirm that Zambia is highly concentrated with 100 CARAT *****S. I am sorry for her, she went thru such cruel…

  11. Read the history written by your own people, not the white one whose preoccupation has been to annihilate you. Pore through the works of Prof. Sheik Anta Diop, Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, and not to forget your very own Prof. Chisanga Siame.

Your brain need the right food to think right. Right now, you think the white man is god and you display the pic of a white jesus in your car/house/office. You are praying to a wrong god!

    Wake up Africans!

  12. People wake up! We are living in 2015 and women are free to dress as they wish. She is not showing her v*i*g*i*n*a nor her b*r*e*a*s*t*s in public. Is there a law saying women should never show there thighs in public? Yet ministers children parade around in shorts, leggins, tight jeans and mini skirts in there areas but nothing is done to them. There should not be double standards. These people are perverts and molesters abusing women in public while we just watch. What’s the police\s role and what is the government doing about this? Don’t utter uneducated comments with no merit. We all have rights and women have the right to wear what they chooses as long as they are not butt naked. Mampi is provocative as hell but men love her and her indecency and very acceptable. Be real people.
