Health Minister Joseph Kasonde says the PF government is not running broke.

Dr Kasonde said government is only reducing expenditure on some non-priority projects in light of reduced revenue.

In an interview, Dr Kasonde insisted that Government is not broke and still running its programs in line with the national budget.

“There have been delays in funding some projects but we shall resume once we smoothen things up,” Dr Kasonde said.

He added, “This kind of delay relates to our revenue as a country. We have been here before as a country and this shall pass, it is a passing phase and we will be back in business.”

Dr Kasonde said government decided to suspend funding to some government projects after a careful analysis of the situation.

“Government looked around and said, at the present rate of spending, we might have problems, let us reduce now on the rate of expenditure, it is a precautionary move and Government should be commended.”

He continued, “This is a way it works, if you wait until the lights are switched off, that is not the way it works. So government has taken steps to slow down some of the expenditure after taking a look at the way things are going with regard to revenue. We have agreed on what you can call smoothing out some of the expenditures.”

  1. Yes the govmnt is not broke, infact the gvmnt has a lot of money.its jus that sum unscrupulous pipo want to mislead innocent citizens.we should all b thankful to God for given us a hardworkin president in the name of E.C.L,he is the best we’ve eva had

    • Ubukopo ba Mwila, typical PF airhead. The old man, Dr Kasonde says there is reduced govt revenue and delays in releasing funds. I guess this is too complicated for a PF cretin to understand that what Kasonde is saying is that govt has no money.

    • As kasonde said reduced revenue. The govt isnt spending on non priority, do you think its because there is alot of mani? I don’t understand your reasoning.

    • I agree with, no wonder we can borrow so much knowing we have the money to pay back. Pabwatooooooooooooooo

    • All roads constructions in Muchinga have come to a stand still. We shall see how the Muchingans will vote in 2016. Either HH or stay at home

    • YOU SHALL RESUME SOME PROJECTS ONCE YOU SMOOTH EN THINGS. AND YOUR SMOOTHENENG OF THINGS IS BORROWING MONEY FROM DONOR COUNTRIES THAT WILL END UP SQUEEZING OUR COUNTRY IN THE END. YOU HAVE ALREADY IMPOSED A HUGE DEBT ON TOP OF OUR HEADS SINCE YOU PF GUYS CAME INTO POWER. YOU BORROW A LOT OF MONEY WHICH YOU END UP SHARING AMONGST YOURSELVES . YOU ARE A BROKE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE YOU RUN GOVERNMENT ON BORROWED MONEY, EVEN TO PAY CIVIL SERVANTS.

  2. Not true, ….why then is it borrowing left right and center even to buy small items like staff cars?

  3. Most of the projects PF govt embarked on were never thought through. No plan. Everything was about appeasing the people to hoodwink them to support the party. It was just a matter of time before everything would start to crumble. They have continued borrowing but even their borrowing doesn’t make much sense. If they have to shelve projects because of lack of funds, then go to borrow to buy furniture for ministers and buy them cars; Where is the sense in all this? & people are clapping for them!

  4. Even at individual level, projects have stalled. No need to be defensive when it is plain clear the pf gvt is broke.

  5. Crisis, what crisis? Mr Minister, just because you are getting your undeserved salary doesn’t mean all is well. If you have “been there before” why are you back there? Appears this administration is getting deeper into moribund levels!

  6. If you can provide loans for ministers to buy furniture, if you can afford to ignore the $25 million air port and $133 million oil over charge scam indeed GRZ is not broke

  7. Chinese Medicine and the Pangolin

    Top of page
    Abstract
The pangolin or scaly ant-eater (Manis penta-dactyla dalmanni) is the most primitive of Chinese mammals, and although it is fully protected by law in the colony and island of Hong-Kong, the demand for its carcass makes more extensive protection in South China necessary (Hong Kong Naturalist, July 1937, 79). The animal itself is eaten, but a greater danger arises from the belief that the scales have medicinal value. Fresh scales are never used, but dried scales are roasted, ashed, cooked in oil, butter, vinegar, boy’s urine, or roasted with earth or oyster-shells, to cure a variety of ills. Amongst these are excessive nervousness and hysterical crying in children, women possessed by devils and ogres, malarial fever and deafness.

  8. Why are pangolins traded?
Most pangolins in international trade end up in China and Vietnam. Here the meat of the animals is consumed as a delicacy, but it is also believed to impart health benefits such as nourishing the kidneys. Despite a lack of evidence suggesting they’re effective, pangolin scales are used as an ingredient in traditional Asian medicines used to help breast feeding women lactate and cure ailments ranging from asthma and psoriasis to cancer.

How many scales do pangolins have?
Different species of pangolin likely have different numbers of scales given their differences in size and the size of scales. The number of scales on the Sunda Pangolin has been estimated at approximately 900 to over 1000.

  9. Chinese demand for the pangolin, a scale-covered anteater, is forcing the endangered animals closer to extinction,

  10. Every field has terms that people in that field understand very well. In econmics what Kasonde simply said the government is broke, period. I am wondering to those who think otherwise. I am a qualified econmist and such terms actually when used send depressing signals to the outside world. It simply means that the government is over spending without remorse and only to realise that there is no money in the coffers. Civil servantsa are not paid on time, the recruitment of nurses and teachers has not taken place because of the same fears of having no money to pay salaries. PF government has resorted to screwing LANDLORDs and Their Tenanant, a thing never head of in the past governments. Chiluba had even more money where he had SLUSH funds to give the needy organisations when in need.

  11. PF gvt is broke. if they can borrow few million dollars to buy toilet papers which even Man pakia can give as a donation then we know that this lying govt is broke. ask the street vendors who sell maize and they will tell you that PF is broke

  12. broke! broke! broke you are.. so stop hallucinating… the noose is surely tightening and the rooster is coming home to crawl

  13. This man is a genius! Next time creditors, the landlord, the girl friend come asking for money, one simply says, ‘ no Im not broke, I have just reduced my expenditure in line with reduced revenues…so i cannot pay you now!” Simply genius!

  14. UPND, Edgar Lungu is winning 2016. The only credible challenger is Edith Nawakwi. She and Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda are the only presidentially qualified opponents that have what it takes to take over as republican president. HH is to bitter and divisive. He does not even let the nation know who his MPs are. UPND members, please tell me your MPs and what they have contributed to our nation. At least my president Nawakwi was Finance minister, a really good one at that.

    Viva president Nawakwi.

  15. The government is broke and we are seeing the economic decline at a very fast rate & only started after the PF ate more than they could chew. Transporters who ferried maize last July have not been paid, only those that are big & with close friends in government have been paid. Where does that leave the small transporter like myself? It is time government pays for services consumed rather than only servicing debts from where individuals benefited. Pay us so we can also in turn meet our obligations.
