A struggling Grade 11 Choma pupil looking for his father, a Dr Kalikoke

A STRUGGLING Grade 11 pupil of Swan Secondary School in Choma is looking for his father who allegedly divorced his mother at the time he was some months old.

Evans Kalikoke, 20, claimed he had never seen his father, a Dr Kalikoke, who used to work at Namwala General Hospital as a doctor, but was transferred to unknown hospital many years ago.

In a walk-interview at TIMES OF ZAMBIA offices yesterday, the boy, who was staying alone in the densely populated Mwapona Township, wanted his father to sponsor him to school.

He said his mother, Violet Simwaka, who was married and residing in Sikalongo Village in Chief Singani’s area, could not meet his school needs.

“I have come here to be helped to look for my father, he is a doctor and used to work at Namwala General Hospital, but he was transferred to unknown place many years ago,” he said.

He said that he was renting a room at K120 per month and paying K300 as school fees per term at Swan Secondary School and his mother was faced with financial constraints.

He said he walks to school every day covering a distance of more than six kilometres and that nobody knew the whereabouts of his father.

“I am so brilliant in class that’s why and I am looking for my father because I am confident of passing my Grade 12 examinations next year and I want him to sponsor me,” he said.

He was hopeful of being accepted at the University of Zambia to pursue engineering and later join the Zambia Army as an engineer. His mother was, however, unreachable by press time.

  1. The last known hospital where his father worked is the starting point. Surely, there should be records pointing to where the Doctor was transferred. Also check with the ministry of health.

All the best young man; hope you trace your father and most important is that he will accept you as his son.

    • Good advice, especially that he has made his plight public. Had he gone straight to the previous hospital where his dad worked or the Ministry of Health, the people there would have thrown him out or told him there were no records of such a person.

  2. You only look for a father you have never known for sponsorship only? Mmh

These stories should not be in mainstream tabloids.

As sad as it sounds- there is thousands of people like him.

*****ic Zambian men who father children left right and centre often have a short life span. Chances is he died some time ago- although I hope I’m wrong.

    Thanks

    • @mushota, your writing amazes me, with sad stories like this, are you trying to get some attention from bloggers or what?

  3. This story is sad.

I suspect the mother is not telling the boy the whole truth.

Your journey to find your father might not end up as you have dreamt. So manage your expectations. You will also find you are not alone in such a quest.

Please concentrate on your studies and get that degree. If you are as brilliant as you say you are, you will get help along the way.

  4. Sad story. But I have a feeling this guy is/was a clinical officer. Those days especially in rural areas, even clinical officers were called Doctors. There are few med Doctors in Zambia and they’re a closely knit community, surely he could have been located by now unless he is no more. It however breaks my heart how a man would abandon his child like that. It’s so painful and I genuinely feel for this young man

  5. There are some rich Zambians why can’t one do the nimble thing and sponsor the boy
But is this Dr Kalikoke a zambian? It seems a strange name to me, may be in kaboke and they are mean with their money

  6. Mushota for f-u-c-k-s sake you are such an A-hole and a very big one. In fact we should tattoo A-hole on your forehead you worthless piece of hyena dung. You think everything is funny even the little boy thrown down the well was a joke. Lusaka Times should ban you from this site because you are a pathetic transgender with both geni-talia. There are things to joke or make fun of and there are things one should never open their trap because they have one you hog! I will not waste my time on you and wish you can just go hole up somewhere and rot. You are a waste oh humanity and just sucking up oxygen real humans need. In fact go find the largest pole you can get and shove it you know where! Enough is enough. Your time is up you s-w-i-n-e!! Hope you have no children. Go jump off the falls.

  7. its a shame that an educated father with a degree in medicine would behave in such a way or maybe the mother is responsible how could she be quiet for many years hope he is alive
