President Edgar Lungu is tomorrow expected in Mozambique to attend that country’s 40th independence anniversary celebrations which take place on 25th June, 2015.

In a press briefing held this afternoon at the Zambian mission in Maputo, Zambia’s High Commissioner to Mozambique Japhen Mwakalombe told journalists that President Lungu’s attendance of that country’s independence anniversary celebrations was important as it signifies the sound relations that exist between Zambia and Mozambique.

Mr. Mwakalombe said President Lungu will be visiting Mozambique for the first time since assuming office in January this year.

He expressed optimism that President Lungu’s visit will further enhance trade between the two countries.

Mr. Mwakalombe further said the President will on tomorrow, 24 June 2015 attend an evening gala which will be held at the Cultural Centre of the University of Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo ahead of the independence celebrations.

On June 25, President Lungu is expected to lay wreaths at the Mozambique Heroes Stadium in respect of that country’s late former first leader of the Front for the Liberation of
Mozambique, Samora Machel and its first leader under the Portuguese government Eduardo Mondlane.

On the same day, the President will proceed to Machava stadium, the venue for the independence celebrations.
Mr. Mwakalombe added that President Lungu will then proceed to Ponta Vermelha palace, the State House of Mozambique, for a luncheon which will be hosted by his counterpart, Filipe Nyusi.

The President’s entourage to Mozambique will include Zambia’s first president Kenneth Kaunda.

Others will be Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba, Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs Kaizer Zulu and Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda.

Mr. Mwakalombe has described Dr. Kaunda’s participation in Mozambique’s 40 independence anniversary celebrations as a demonstration of Zambia’s sacrifice towards that country’s fight for independence.

“During the inauguration of President Filipe Nyusi early this year, President Lungu assigned Dr. Kaunda as his representative. Thegovernment of Mozambique acknowledged Zambia’s representation,” he said.

And on the sidelines of the independence celebrations, Mr. Mwakalombe said the ZECSO Acting Managing Director Victor Mundende is expected to hold discussions on how to increase electricity trade within the SADC region.
A former Portuguese colony, Mozambique gained independence on 25 June, 1975 with the late Samora Machel as its first President.

The late Machel died in a plane crash as he was returning from a Frontline States meeting that was held in Lusaka, Zambia in 1986.

Joaquim Chissano and Armando Emilio Guebuza are Mozambique’s former leaders.

Filipe Nyusi, Mozambique’s current President, assumed office in January this year after obtaining 57.3 per cent vote win in the October 2014 presidential and general elections.

With 30 political parties, the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO) is the major party which has been in power since that country’s independence in 1975.

  1. Is he going by some alternative cheaper means such as public buses or still using the challenger? The country has no money Mr. President and PF is supposed to champion the cause of the poor. Kenyais not that far bwana President.

  2. Does it mean when the company is not doing fine financialy it has to stop sending its stuff to corperate seminers and other organisational functions

  3. Polobulemu ilipo apa ni majelasi. If not corrected, the problems created largely by that fool Kabimba were going to cost PF a re-election in 2016, even Sata knew that which is why he kicked out the dishonest Kabimba unceremoniously. President Lungu has embarked on correcting most of those problems. That he is succeeding immensely at this has sent chills down the spines of presidential pretenders, hence all sorts of crooks/liars/pretenders/losers/cartels forging unlikely alliances with the Post to discredit Lungu.

But losers shall remain losers, and the annointed shall remain annointed. So better swallow the bitter truth now, 2016 No Change!

    • LIAR,WHY IS CHAGWA SKIRMING TO DELAY THE 2016 POLLS UNTILL 2020 IF HE IS SURE OF WINNING?THE WIND OF CHANGE IS BLOWING AND BLOWING FAST ACROSS THE COUNTRY.CHAGWA AND HIS GODFATHER RUPIA MUBWEZENI KUMUNZI BANDA KUYABEBELE.

  4. Lol,this Lungu president is turning into another Vasco Da Gama constantly touring .

Maybe public backlash will do the trick like in Kenya where Uhuru was forced to drop a trip to Nigeria for inauguration.

  5. He should have gone there straight from south Africa why did have to come to Zambia? These trips are very expensive never put a poor man in state house again.

  6. He shouldn’t have come back but go straight to Mozambique? Imwe bantu but you wanted to see him in Lusaka to prove that he had not gone to Israel.
Maybe Zambians should start being reasonable and sensible in your comments then maybe everything else will start being sensible and normal in this country.
If yourself are not normal surely you do not expect to see things in their normal state?
By the way he came to sign a few important papers, remember that he is the President and signs very important papers ka? You will never understand this if you have never been President or if you are still aspiring to be one, ka?

  7. No sooner has this visionless lazy bum landed from RSA on his extended paid medical leave he runs away from his office for a mere Independence celebrations in Maputo, he can not host a press conference and update us on the draft constitution, the increase of the debt ceiling….what type of this whom has never articulated his road-map or talked about the economy…its all about priorities, priorities, priorities!
Surely the way things are going in this country its as good as not President…the country has had no president for about 2 years; we are paying this utterly useless empty tin alot of money for merely lazying about and drinking alcohol.

  8. MPs have the right to ask in parliament how much is being spent on these trips and i can assure that if the figures where made public even the most loyal PF supporter will cry foul.
It very expensive to fly and accommodate a head of state and pay him allowances on top.
If people did not know what EL is doing, its stealing legally, the allowances he is entitled are very huge and he is taking advantage of this.
If you thing otherwise ask any civil savant how much they get when they travel.
That is why government/PF do not want to enact the freedom to information bill because all these presidential expenses will be made public.

  9. Zambian taxpayers silently and cleverly being abused and fooled to pay allowances for endless trips.

Bwana Lungu stay home and attend to more pressing matters.

  10. But these people don’t come in Zambia wen we have important events also Such as Last year’s golden jubilee. They don’t move bcos they want to save their national resources. Zambiian leaders love moving up and down

  11. ‘The late Machel died in a plane crash as he was returning from a Frontline States meeting that was held in Lusaka, Zambia in 1986.”
I think the meeting was held in Mbala, at the air force base and not in Lusaka.

  12. I like EL but Im beginning to loose confidence. We are broke and he hasn’t finished appointing his cabinet but he’s rarely home since elected
