Government has called for more private sector investment in satellite communication technology.

Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Forrie Tembo says this will help in bridging the information gap between urban and rural areas of the country.

Mr. Tembo said this is also in appreciation of the fact that communication in rural and other far-flung areas of the country still remains a big challenge.

The deputy minister said this in Lusaka today when he officially opened a one day media technology workshop organized by Telplus Zambia.

The media technology workshop was aimed at showcasing the company’s communication products that can enhance the operations of the electronic media in news gathering and dissemination.

It drew participants from various media houses across the country.

Mr. Tembo said government has placed high premium on companies such as Telplus Zambia that add value to various sectors of the country’s economy.

And Mr. Tembo urged participants to invest their invaluable knowledge they will gain from the workshop by improving the outputs of their respective media organisations.

Earlier, Telplus Zambia Chief Executive Officer Chimuka Moore said the Zambian media needs to move with the rest of the world in communication technology.

Ms Moore expressed hope that her company’s programme will go a long way in improving coverage of news from all corners of the country.

  1. Hon. Tembo,
and your call is based on what Statutory provision? ZICTA Act? ZDA Act?
Please, stop insulting human intelligence and instead, roll-up your sleeves and and do something which can justify your emoluments and benefits instead of blabbing irrelevant slogans.
With Zamtel in control of satellite communications port of entry and exit, you want somebody to invest? Are you ok or you are in need of urgent medical review in RSA?

  2. If you can’t handle the technology you have now, what makes you think you will maintain the Satelite Technology?
