FDD President Edith Nawakwi says as long as people in the luapula province continue to vote for the ruling party the province will remain a forgotten province.

And FDD Candidate in the 6th August by- election Robby Mwansa has observed that previous MPs in the area have kept voters ignorant on how they can utilize the natural resources in their constituency to redeem themselves from the clutches of poverty because they want to continue using poverty to manipulate voters.

Speaking when she addressed a public meeting in Chimembe ward, Ms. Nawakwi said Luapulu province has always voted for the ruling party but has nothing to show for it because people in the ruling party know that even if they don’t deliver, the province will give them a vote.

She explained that since independence the people in luapula have sided with the ruling party but that the province was among the least developed in the country with alarming levels of poverty, illiteracy and mortality rate.

She called on voters to vote for the FDD candidate to remind the ruling party that they too exist and need a share from the country’s resources.

” The people in this province are loyal to the ruling party because you have always sided with the party in Government. You always voted for UNIP when they were in office and when MMD came in power you gave them all the seats and now you have given PF all the seats in parliament but you are not benefiting from this loyalty.

You vote for the ruling party but you have no schools, no clinics and the road infrastructure is nothing to about this because you have never shown these people that you deserve better and you can only do that by not voting for them.

I’m asking you to vote for the FDD not only as a reminder to this Government that you exist but because he is a better candidate standing on a party with morals and integrity as well as the best policies to help communities start on evelopment path using the natural resources which are abundant in the constituency,” Ms. Nawakwi said.

Meanwhile FDD Candidate Robby Mwansa said the constituency continues to be impoverished because previous MPs were using it as a tool for keeping them in office.

He said the constituency had all the natural resources needed for developing communities but their leaders had not provided leadership use the resources to benefit them and improve their lives.

“The problem we have had is that the people we put in office want to keep chained to poverty because they want to came and manipulate you were there elections. They want to make you think that they are good people by keeping you ignorant on how you can develop your communities.

You have natural resources which can transform our communities in a short time but what you need is visionary MP to help with the transformation. I will not promise you heaven on earth but I can confidently say that I will lead the way in ensuring you do not remain baggers in the midst of plenty.

We have three lakes in this area which I intend to use as a launch pad for the development of this constituency. We can be a productive community using the water resources and the fertile soil. We will be a prosperous Constituency if we work together as a people and ensure that decisions are made at local level.”

  1. Luapula deserves the poverty and lack of development. This is the most pro-Bemba hegemony and tribal province. They continue to dream of development coming from Bemba-speaking presidents. Let them eat their tribe!

    • buti this election should go to edith nawakwi. she has really brought issues out and campaigned like a real champion. mwebena ngwena if you vote PF nangu UPND ninshi mwalob ilyauma. vote for nawakwi’s candidate. nomba ubupuba, you will see!!!

  2. up until the day we realize that an MP is not the government conduit for development, we will continue following ‘icimwela’ yet go back to our poverty at the end of the day. an MP is a law maker period. the budget is made to go into all areas. a friend of mine visited Mongu from Mansa recently and was shocked that whilst Luapulans can claim an anthill is Mount Everest, their Lozi counterparts always claim the Mount Everest of Mongu -Kalabo road is a smallest anthill. so my Ushi, Bwile and Lunda brethren lets take a leaf from the people of Western on this one

    • I sympathise but it appears that people of Western Province are more practical : a highway to Angola or electricity pylons passing by your hut are not development to you if you are still scratching for a living while those with money zoom past you. Ultimately what matters is what you eat, drink and where you sleep. You do not drive your neighbour’s car or live in his house.

    • Paraphrasing RB, the Mongu – Kalabo Road siya anyoko. It belongs to the whole of Zambia and does not feed the fisherman on the Barotse Flood Plains. If you don’t believe this, ask the Tongas who were kicked out of the Gwembe Valley to make way for Kariba Dam. They are still scratching their daily lives at Lusitu.

  3. i once argued along the same line of thought. They always say,you wil only see development if you wil vote for the party in power.but its always the opposite. They hv areas to develop and keep areas uncivilised and undeveloped for exploitation.I once thought a bemba was a special person with special qualities, alas!!!kasi we dont differ.come to where the veep comes frm the area is a village with no proper development.

  4. I thought a bemba was a person with extra eye, extra head etc.whch makes them feel different frm the rest.northern province is stil struglin in terms of devpment.thats why they fight 4 power to remain in northen or eastern for devlpment 2 be taken to their areas on chimbuya.

  5. Buck teeth lungu iam not from luapula I don’t think people in luapula are bembas or all people in western province lozis my lamba boss one day told me that people who talk about tribe or race are failers becouse your tribe don’t take you anywhere work hard us president is an African American they are blacks at nasa stop insulting people it’s people like you who is damaging our politics and it’s only when people are frustrated and have failed when tribe become an issue no one chose which tribe to belong to

    • Do as I say and not as I do? Watch your ass and see who you vote for in 2016 and then continue complaining about lack of development. Look at the recent history of Zambia, especially since 2011 to appreciate why some of us are not dreamy eyed about uniformity of development.

    • @Africa: you have articulated your problem very well by giving the example of Obama. Obama Senior was probably cleverer than his son but he died, though in a car accident, a broken man as a result of Jomo Kenyatta and his fellow Kikuyus’ tribalism. In his last years, Obama Senior could not even get a job, despite a Havard PhD; all because he was a Luo. That’s the big difference between America and Africa. And that’s one big reason why Africa is not so backward. You can either face the African problem or live in USA and pontificate about equality.

  6. Nawakwi was a cabinet minister in the MMD government and what development did she take to Luapula? Mr Robby Mwansa lives in that area. Can Mr Mwansa point out just one project he initiated to uplift the well being of the community. Does Mr Mwansa suffer from the HH syndrome( I will only help the people of Zambia when they vote for me)? Although HH claims to be so rich, HH has failed to point out just one development project he initiated for the people in the area where HH has his main ranch. A true politician does not wait until elected into office to help the people. Any politician who claims, he/she will only help the people, once elected into office is doing politics for GAIN and NOT service to the people.

  7. @mwine munzi.yo thoughts are retarded.does it mean that, nawakwi didnt do her duties wen was in government and her incompetence stil affects the devlpment of zambia. After nawakwi, there was magande, etc, there was chikwanda and is upto nw a finance minister.PF members no a blame game.you are really good at that.

  8. National leadership is about setting up frameworks and redirecting a country’s priorities. It is not about philanthropy and HH has never boasted about his philanthropy. If you want philanthropy, then vote Bill Gates for Zambian President. Gates probably has done more for some individual Zambians than some Zambian presidents. Nawakwi should not talk loudly about Luapula’s backwardness. She did not put that province’s development as a priority when she was a Minister. At least in WP, the leaders who pushed for Mongu-Kalabo Road are well known.

  9. Since when did. Luapula become a a forgotten province? If iit has been so then all who have been in government must share the blame.

  10. Edith Nawakwi is a f00l!!she was in MMD Govt for 20yrs did nothing for Luapula.its PF under late Sata which has tarred roads(e.g.Mansa -Luwingu road,Mansa-Mufulira road,Kawambwa Luwingu road,Kawambwa -Porokoso road,Samfya -Kasaba road, etc) schools, clinics, hospitals, new districts are done under PF in Luapula!so who can buy your lie iwe ka Nawakwi?Wanya us ni PF for life!!PF HAS ALREADY RETAINED BANGWEULU SEAT,SO DREAN ON WHILE OUR PROVINCE DEVELOP UNDER PF!!

  11. Nawakwi has the reason to reason like that. Currently, Luapula is the poorest province in the country, check with the 2010 censors. Western Province was but of late Luapula is topping the list. One may ask, WHY? The reason is straight forward, the literacy levels are really low and not only that the MPs from that province do not articulate the issues of poverty very well, it could be due to poor understanding of the poverty drivers in that province. The coming of LUNGU in Power now has exercebated the situation, all LUNGU has done is to appoint a lot of these people from Luapula in government positions and all these people do is feed their BELLIES, ad have completely forgotten about their constituencies. Take for instance what F.T.J. CHILUBA did to luapula people. He never did anything.
