President Edgar Lungu says government is looking at measures to address the challenges facing the economy.

President Lungu says the opposition has been spreading lies that government is not interested in the economy.

The president says as Head of State, he is aware of the state of the nation.

President Lungu says the price of copper on the international market has gone down, leading to mining companies considering closing down and laying off their workers.

He said the situation is not only happening in Zambia but in other countries in the region such as Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC- that also depend on copper.

President Lungu has explained that it is for this reason that he has directed the FRA and other relevant authorities to export the maize and bring into the country the much needed foreign exchange.

He said government will buy all the maize from farmers and export it because most countries in the region have no food.

The president said it is sad that the opposition are claiming that they will open up more mine companies if voted into power.

President Lungu was speaking at a rally in Luwingu Boma to drum up support for PF candidate in the Lubansenshi by election George Mwamba.

Other speakers were PF Central Committee members Samuel Mukupa, Northern province minister Freedom Sikazwe, among others.

And President Lungu has called on road contractors to uphold quality in their works.

The president says it is not good for road contractors to rush their works by beating the deadline, yet the works are poor.

The Head of State says he wants to see quality in all the road works so that the roads should stand the test of time.

President Lungu was speaking in Luwingu this morning when he inspected the 242 million US Dollars 175 kilometer Mansa-Luwingu road project being undertaken by China Henan.

And the president called on road contractors to empower Zambians, especially women.

He says this is because government has taken a deliberate step to empower women with various projects.

And Monjit Saha, the Resident Engineer for the road project said the contractor is six months ahead of schedule.

He explained to the president that the contractor has engaged in many community projects.

    • Mines are not closing and firing workers because of low copper prices but because of power cuts, a mine needs power 24/7. Mines sell copper in dollars and pay their workers in Kwacha and with the useless Kwacha, they are now spending very little on salaries compared to when the kwacha is strong…. they therefore cannot close because of poor copper prices.

Lungu has no idea of what he is talking about. During Mwanawasa’s rule, copper prices were much lower than they are now and we were buying $1 at K3200. In DRC, their currency is not as useless as the Kwacha, it is relatively stable…. our Kwacha on the other hand is the worst performing currency in the world, worse than the Iraqi and Syrian currencies and these countries are at war.

PF is just a party full of people with no…

    • I am looking for campaign pictures of Chagwa druming for support at mass rallies in Lubansenshi. Iam just seeing photos from the File and one with Chagwa in ZNS uniform. Any one with the current rally photos please?

    • The truth is that he is INCAPABLE of holding a PRESS CONFERENCE.

He is just as USELESS at that as he is in running the Country.

      Failed Completely!!!!

  2. I don’t seem to see the negatives that you see in the President. Since I am very normal, it follows that you Lungu’s critics must be very abnormal, right?

  3. That is the problem with Lungu….he is just looking at the problems…. I thought he would be saying that he has taken action to deal with the Economy!!
Looking does solve any problem – has he got any clue about what he should be dong???

  4. Is this guy as real deal or is he a jerk? He is a full on ridiculous human beings who thinks he is in charge. Lungu like his mentor is a chancer who might have a lonely life in due course, assuming hewon’t die on the job.

  5. @Mwaba
You must be very useless and dull.
It was in mwanawasa era that the price of copper hit the highest $8600 per dollar and is why the exchange rate came down to almost K3 per dollar. This is why we argue that there is nothing tangible or special that mwanawasa did about the economy. All he can be remembered for was just to arrest FTJ. This was his highest performance indicator which excited Mmembe to perpetrate his misguided corruption fight in which his perceived enemies are targeted. This economic phase shall pass and ECL will come out of stronger and opposition will remain with nothing to sell or talk about.

    • @ the game. YOU are the one that is very useless and dull.

Jamesoni Lungu says that government is looking at measures to address the challenges facing the economy – but doing nothing except making excuses!

Mwanawasa addressed the challenges and succeeded – Through hard work and brains!

That is the difference between this useless clown we have now and a great man like Mwanawasa.

  6. “Looking at” measures to address challenges is the most ridiculous statement a leader can make. He should have his people “looking into” the challenges as they arise and together as leaders provide a working plan to overcome the challenges.
Seriously Zambia deserves better than this mediocrity.

  7. Game, how is the economy going to get better when nothing is being done but knee jerk actions. We are at the mercy of china and greece now. The Kwacha seems stable because other countries fixed the mess china created and Your PF are failing to fix simple power issue. Thanks to you and PF now we are villagers who live without power. Tell me your Lungu’s economic plan, which you also don’t know. You got to have a plan in life otherwise you’ll be tossed back and forth like what’s happening to the country. The economic phase won’t go away just like that in fact it will get worse. The opposition won’t even need to campaign next year, didn’t you see Lungu getting booed in the stadium and in solwezi. Zambians now know the real Lungu and his fake promises. The people also know the…

    • Lungu is not ” a President”, he is a fake pretender. This man is as much a “President” as my dog!

As for WISE, it is definitely something Lungu is severely deficient in! The Jamesoni has dissolved his brains long time ago!

  8. The guy has the wisdom of a drunkard “ati mailo nkaya goleka amasampo, ninshi fyonse ifintu fyasoveka”.
But how much maize is he talking about, that he’s going to sell to bring in dollars. Given already told peasant farmers to sell their maize & they sold to chinese who are taking the dollars to china.
