THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says the first phase of the voter registration exercise conducted from September 14 to October 12 has recorded 602,512 new voters.
ECZ public relations manager Crispin Akufuna said in a statement yesterday that there were also 635,149 updates comprising voter transfers, card replacements and amendments.
Mr Akufuna said the commission was notified of 7,586 voters who died.
He said Lusaka recorded the highest number of new registered voters standing at 121,155 followed by Southern Province with 98,343 and Central Province at 70,274.
The Copperbelt registered 61,288 new voters followed by Northern Province which had 58,800, Eastern Province with 56,024 and Western Province with 43,080.
Muchinga recorded 41,232 new voters, Luapula had 28,515 and North-Western Province recorded 23,801.
Mr Akufuna appealed to citizens with national registration cards to register as voters.
“Voter registration is free. No fee should be charged for the issuance of a voter’s card.
Members of the public should report to police any registration officer demanding payment to register voters,” he said.

@Moscow(OP) – Do not deceive yourself. The language is also changing in Luapula. Just go to Mansa shoperite or sample some barbershops/restaurants/bars and here the peoples comments there. There is no guarantee that if PF have more registered voters their, then they will carry the day. My advise to PF is to work on service delivery and alleviate the suffering of the people. Failure to do that ALEISA DRIVER.
The opposition should be very careful with PF which has vowed to stay in power using whatever means at its disposal. I strongly believe PF lost the january election! They rigged those elections and mambilima is very much aware. She was even rewarded for doing that dirty job by gaining a promotion. These illiterates in power don’t care about morals! To them it is, ‘sebana wikute’ that’s all that matters. Just see the desperation of Kambwili. if he had his own way he can even kill whoever stands in his way! He wants to continue enjoying. @politicalanalyst. Bill Clinton had a catch-phrase when he fought George Bush (the father) for the Presidency when people would talk about the accomplishments of George Bush in foreign policy. He would say: “It is the economy stupid!” In short, what motivated the voter was how the economy was performing.
Even though you might think HH is not popular, each and every Zambian is feeling the bite of the economy and I think a lot of Zambians will vote on the basis. Rightly or wrongly, PF is being blamed for the current economic malaise and their lack of a clear coherent strategy to rectify the situation only pertuates that thinking. Iam of the view that the current dire economic situation favours HH in 2016.

If its not Lusaka and CB where the load shedding and higher cost of living is being felt most, then it will remain PF strong hold but if it is I doubt if EL will come out tops in these two regions. I think it will be 50:50 this time around.

@Peace maker, i like your observations and you have responded well to Mr real, i wonder if he is real or fake coz he cant think. Another point whether he likes it or not is that whoever voted for HH in the las election will still vote for him. Those that voted for pf are bound to change because lungu’s campaign promises have not been fulfilled and most importantly because of the reasons even die hard pf cadres know, a lot who voted for lungu will vote for the opposition as simple as that.

ECZ is calculating on how to help pf win 2016. Pf will be disadvantaged because of hunger hitting majority zambians. Many will vote for Kachema musuma. Even if pf borrows trunks of dollars from outside, zambians have realised that such money will stress the children of 2moro when paying back, so it is better to keep pf out of sight in 2016.

(1) HH had = 68074
(2) ECL had = 53464
Check also on the Lusaka results confirmed by ECZ ( 20/01/2015)

That is before the current challenges as follows
