State House Deputy Minister, Mulenga Sata, says government is confident that Zambia can be transformed into a developed country in the next 50 years.

Mr Sata, however, says this status could only be achieved if all citizens work hard in a collaborative spirit.

“The transformation agenda is the blueprint for our development in the next fifty years. This means government, civil society as well as the private sector should align all efforts around this forward looking agenda,” he said.

Mr Sata said the need to spread development to all parts of the country and empower the local communities was a critical component of both the transformation agenda and decentralisation policy.

He said this in Livingstone today during commemorations of Zambia’s 51st Independence anniversary held under the theme: Laying the foundation for a smart Zambia, finding forgiveness, repentance, compassion and love in God.

Meanwhile, Mr Sata said government would encourage efforts by chiefs to come up with strategic plans for their chiefdoms which capture the village as a unit of development.

He said villages under the transformation agenda should be characterised by good roads, housing, clean water, sanitation and education among others.

Mr Sata said it was in this way that people in rural areas would enjoy the fruits of development.

“We are committed, as government, to ensuring that villages should no longer be centres of poverty.

And speaking earlier, Livingstone Freedom Fighters Association Chairperson, Christine Sitali, urged government to recognise and award freedom fighters for their role in attaining independence from colonial masters.

Ms Sitali said some freedom fighters felt neglected as some benefits of development had not trickled down to them.

She called for love, unity and peace to prevail if the country was to continue developing.

And Government has called on every citizen to work hard if Zambia is to be transformed into a developed Country in the next 50 years.

ZANIS in Kalulushi reports that Zambia aspires to be an upper middle income Country by 2030.

Speaking during the 51st Independence anniversary held at the Kalulushi Stadium, District Commissioner Kampamba Mulenga, said the transformation agenda was the blueprint for the country’s development in the next 50 years.

Ms Mulenga said government, civil society as well as the private sector should align all their efforts around this forward looking agenda.

She added that the agenda would be implemented throughout the country at provincial, district and community levels through the decentralised policy which government had started implementing through a phased approach.

Ms Mulenga noted that the decentralisation policy would also facilitate the devolution of functions in the key sectors such as education, health, agriculture and tourism.

She said the need to spread development to all parts of the country and empower the local communities was a critical component of both the transformation agenda and the decentralized policy.

She further said implementation of the transformation agenda required that everyone changes the way they think, act and interact while ensuring that the national interest was always at the centre of stage of activities.

Ms Mulenga disclosed that in his address to the National Assembly President Edgar Lungu challenged the nation to embrace a transformational culture, which entailed a complete change in the minds of the people.

She said everyone was challenged to embrace the new culture and use it to get better involved in nation-building.

And Kalulushi District Committees Chairperson, Nathan Chileshe, said the theme for this year’s independence “Laying foundation for a smart Zambia, finding forgiveness, repentance, compassion and love in God,” was in line with the national prayers, fasting and reconciliation which President Edgar Lungu declared for this Country.

Mr Chileshe commended the President for that, saying only prayer and forgiveness among people would move this country forward.

And Government has urged all Zambians to put national interest at the centre stage of all activities if the country is to transform into an upper middle class income country.

ZANIS in Ndola reports that Home Affairs Minister, Davies Mwila, said this during the 51st Independence celebrations held at Mwanawasa Stadium.

Mr Mwila said it was imperative that all Zambians support President Edgar Lungu’s transformation agenda meant to propel Zambia into a developed country by 2064, which was outlined during the opening of the Fifth Session of the Eleventh National Assembly on September 18, 2015.

He said the transformation agenda was the blue print of the country’s development in the next 50 years.

“The transformation agenda is the blueprint for our development in the next 50 years; as such we should all align our efforts around this forward looking agenda. It does not matter whether you are from the civil society, private sector or government; we must all work towards making our country a better place,” he said.

The minister added that the transformation agenda entails that people embrace a transformational culture which demands a complete change in the mind-set.

“To achieve the transformational agenda, we must embrace a transformational culture, which entails a complete change in our mind-set. Each and every one of us is challenged to embrace this culture,” he said.

Meanwhile the Home Affairs Minister took a swipe at the Ndola Independence Day organising committee for failing to publicise the event, which was characterised by a low turnout.

He advised the committee to ensure that a lot of people attend next year’s Independence Day celebrations.

    • What is this Sata thief lying about? Like father line son. He should first return the $25m he and his friends stole from the KKIA project before talking about developing Zambia. Zambia will never develop as long as thieves like the Sata family are allowed into State House.

    • Damn this is dullness, you are talking of the next 50 years?? this boy is stupid? No Please Zambians, kick PF out from 90 days to 50 year?? sorry.. We need a government that can transform Zambia in 5 years. It is achievable with a serious working government.

PF can not manage that therefore kick them out.

  1. Our EL went to China first to woo investors but alas, Up to now not a single investor has landed at KK airport, But when the Chinese president visited the UK deals where sealed with the Chinese companies even before he left the UK, Billions of contracts have been signed between the UK and China while our tourist EL said billions of investment will come out of his visit to China which no one has yet seen apart from PF supporters who can see things done in the spirit by their god EL and will support him no matter how many lies he tells.

    • BANTU BOTATWE, THAT’S THE MIND-SET THEY ARE ASKING/TELLING YOU TO CHANGE. THINKING A CHINAMAN IS GOING TO DEVELOP YOUR COUNTRY IS ABSOLUTE STUUPIID AND VERY DULL IN THINKING. FOR SURE ZAMBIANS NEED TO CHANGE IN THE WAY THEY DO STUFF. PRACTICALLY, BELIEVE IN YOURSELVES AND NOT A FOREIGNER.
ZUBERI, IN FACT ZAMBIA CAN BECOME A DEVELOPED NATION WITHIN 20 YEARS TIME. BUT WITH I*****S LIKE YOU WHO THINK IT SHOULD TAKE 50 YEARS TO BUILD ONE ROAD WITHIN ZAMBIA, A DEVELOPED STATE OF ZAMBIA IS A PIPE DREAM AND THEREFORE, IN OBLIVION.

  2. Bitterness will kill u mwana u mean u cant c road infrustructure that will easy the transportation of goods, improve investor confidence and attract tourism.

  3. So effectively what this goat has bleated is that what took the paper tigers about 15 a 25 years to achieve will take the thieving, lying developing, 51-year old nation 100 years!? If prayers were not an indication of a failed bunch, this surely must nail it. Anyway, knowing the forgiving Christian nation this, too, must be applauded!

  4. Shopping malls is not development just in case that is what is on his mind. Stop thieving and start planning to get rid of ghettos so our people can live in health and clean environments then we can talk about development. Otherwise with these no vision leaders we are just wasting our time discussing development.

  5. From selling dogs to property owner in Belgium, South Africa, China and Switzerland! Who cant see development in that mental state of corruption?

  6. …did he say 500yrs and LT as usual misprinted to 50yrs…or did he mean to say Zambia will only start transforming into a developed country in 50yrs time from now….because the current corrupt crop of politicians shall ALL be DEAD by then….

  7. “…transformation agenda entails that people embrace a transformational culture which demands a complete change in the mind-set.
“To achieve the transformational agenda, we must embrace a transformational culture, which entails a complete change in our mind-set. Each and every one of us is challenged to embrace this culture,” he said.” I AM URGING THE MINISTERS AND ALL THOSE USING THESE WORDS AND SENTENCES TO USE THEM IN CONTEXT. EVERYONE SEEMS TO HAVE JUST MEMORISED THESE WORDS AND SENTENCES AS THEY ARE NOT CONTEXTUALIZING THEM. MOST PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND THESE WORDS/PHRASES WHEN THEY ARE NOT EXEMPLIFIED BY A PRACTICAL SITUATION. PLEASE, GIVE AN EXAMPLE.

  8. The vision being advanced by one Mulenga Sata is being stolen from one Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda! Mulenga Sata is plagiarizing!

  9. Well said Sir,
I’m confident that the PF government has:
    …The will
    …The skills
…The backing of overseas partners, and
    …The human resources in-country
    TO ACHIEVE THIS
President Lungu has categorically proven this!

  10. Very stupid chap! One thinks of this with all the daily thieving & plundering of our finite resources by these Devils in PF!Tell your dull PF cronies this trash, not civilised & proactive radicals in UPND.Us we take actions & talkings in tandem, not these hollow political rhetorics & compulsions, thank you!

  11. At least I did one good thing from the diaspora on 24th Oct. I paid all my workers and sent money to my relatives so that they can buy food to eat as they celebrate this day. I thanked all of them for the small works we do together…this is a small way but if a lot of people do this, we could move forward. I even met a couple of good thinking friends in Western Union also sending money back home. It was a good feeling.

  12. Truly laughable…even without a vision and sticking to a budget these empty tins can make utterances…maybe this thief is talking about his own bank balance.

  13. Ba UPND insale nowonder u can’t attract anyone because u’re too bitter and u think anyone who supports PF is dull.Iwe i can’t vote 4 such a party. We’ll also tell our pipo to register in numbers so that 50% 50% nega nega formula.mukapapa they way u behave like that iwe pipo can die if u won election due to yo tribe thinking.U jst puts me off with such mentality.Mulenga Sata is saying the truth but u’re busy insulting him. What’s wrong with u UPND cadres?

  14. THAT’S THE REASONING OF CNP’S. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE SINGAPORE, A COUNTRY WITHOUT MINERAL RESOURCES, TO BE TRANSFORMED FROM POVERTY TO PROSPERITY? CERTAINLY NOT 50 YEARS. THIS COUNTRY CAN BE TRANSFORMED WITHIN 10 YEARS WITH ALL THE RESOURCES AT ITS DISPOSAL.

  15. Development is a relative term, i wonder in 50 years at what level we’ll be compared to the developed countries now…………….. Zambia will never develop as long as there are a majority of people foolish enough to believe prayers and fasting will bring development. Mulenga Sata is just another weak politician like his father, who promised to save money by reducing salaries of government officials but went on to increase their salaries, that wasnt a brave decision because he knew he would need their support so his decision was influenced by fear.

  16. we dont have any resourses we sold them to foreigners because we couldnt run them…. the only money we get is tax salaries etc

  17. Development is a relative term, i wonder what level the developed countries now will be then in 50 years compared to us…… Mulenga Sata is a weak politician just like his father, who promised to reduce government officials salaries but then went on to increase them and that decision was influenced by a lack of courage.

  18. We will not even have finished paying back the EUROBONDS that these these PF thieves have borrowed to steal by then!

So what is this clown talking about?
