Motor rally driver Jassy Singh and four others have pleaded not guilty in the Lusaka Magistrate’s Court to assault, resisting and obstructing an immigration officer.
Before magistrate Munalula Mubita was Singh, 32, Joshi Kishor, Naidoo Logendra, Kumaren Naidu and Ramakrishna Naidu, charged with one count each of resisting, obstruction and assaulting officers on duty.
The five told the court that they understood the charge but denied committing the offence.
It is alleged that on October 27 this year, the men resisted, obstructed and assaulted an immigration officer and a police officer on duty by physically manhandling them and making it impossible for them to conduct their work in Lusaka.
The five will appear for mention on November 23.

  1. We need some order in the nation. There is no way you can manhandle someone carrying out his statutory duty. That said, let’s stop attending to problems AFTER the fact. I do not know what this specific case was, but there has been a tendency by our Immigration folk to get into gear when there is either a Presidential directive, or when some deal has gone sour and the loser has some authority to point out some glaring problem that can be capitalised on.

    • Mwenye arabs umusungu temunobe. They still think we are their slaves or natives whom they are ordained to rule. Jail these mwenye bastards.

  2. The problem with these immigration officers is that they do not investigate claims and wrong fully harass citizens due to their skin colour. I have seen it with my own eyes when they visits to business houses where their uniforms take an overzealouse approach to citizens. Education is very very important in these institutions where people of low calibre are employed without basic tools of how to identify true citizens from illegal ones even after 51yrs of independence. The reaction from these probably started from a kind of harassment which these immigration officers put in as the many cases of abuse in sll govt institutions are regarding a different skin colour. It’s only pa zed where things if this nature exists and it’s due to lack of understanding and education that you don’t have…

  3. The problem with some of these immigration officers is that always harass citizens of a different race when performing their duties. We have seen these activities when they go door to door at business areas and are always looking for faults on citizens of Zambia who have s diffExtent skin colour. I cannot rule out harassment of these people who reacted in this manner. Education in this era of technology will eradicate how an officer will differentiate a citizen from an illegal person. Remember you don’t have to be black to be a Zambian citizen.

  4. Immigration officers act as thought they enforce the bill of rights for all zambians. These clowns need to realize that NOT all zambians are Black. There are multiple generations or People of asian decent that are zambian however these get harasses as much if not more than those in Madrass area. Immigration there are 3 types of Mwenyes in Zambia now:
    1) The Mwenye that just got imported, lives in Kamwala and is dosile. These guys will pay out millions to you so as not to get harassed and get their zambian passports immediately.
    2) The Mwenye educated in zambia and abroad. This mwenye is as cunning if not more and does not deal with your crap. He knows his rights and knows the laws, as such even tells the police when they try to pull moves using the wrong law. This Mwenye is connected…

  5. 3) This mwenye is born, raised and educated in zambia. He thinks like a zambian, which is fists first then talk. This mwenye is bad news as he has wealth and is connected. The immigration officers should have realized what the hell they were doing, as stopping people that are born to zambian parents, raised in zambia and educated in zambia for immigration documentation after being told they are zambian should be enough. If the immigration fools got pompous then the beating is well deserved. How do you ask a zambian to prove he/she is zambian. Stupid immigration like the stupid PF government.

  6. Comment:iwe mwenye ni mwenye. no two ways bout it. wn it cmes to rights ati ‘zambian’. these guys must have cooperated with the officers no matter what. by the way am also a “zambian mwenye”. these guys shuld change their behaviour n attitude to officers.
    give respect and get respect

  7. Teach those mwenyes a lesson, they think they are above blacks. Immigration pulls up back zambians who look forigne all the time, it is their job. The mwenyes are the most racist pipo in zambia, only doing bussiness among them selves and flooding the country with other mwenyes.
Well done immigration for looking at them

  8. Guys,
YOUR COUNTRY HAS BEEN SOLD…ADMIT IT!
We Indians/Chinese/Lebanese/Somalis…HAVE EQUAL RIGHTS AS YOU
This is no longer the xenophobic UNIP era!

  9. I was at Apc that day.. you should have seen the way they were treated.. like animals… who doesn’t know jassy Singh? His sister had his ID and had taken his car and they REFUSED to see a copy of his passport. By the time his sister got thier they didn’t want to see the I’D. .. The officers who picked him up were like you the Zambian champion let’s go…the Singhs have brought so much honor to the country and this is what they get? To top it off the same immigration officers did NOT introduce themselves, they Did NOT have any identification of who they are and where they came from, they DID NOT have a uniform AND they are very RUDE AND ARROGANT.. is that how you treat people? #very disgusted with this government#

  10. Having witnessed what happened, I would like to state that our officers lack professionalism. Those of us that have done business communication will appreciate that before you carry out any inspection you ought to introduce yourself with valid id’s. This can be highly appreciated only by those that have had a chance to travel outside Zambia.
Firstly these officials were not in uniform and did not produce any id’s.
Secondly non of the people mentioned ever refused to produce their id’s. They all have valid Zambian id’s.
The problem is that our we tend to think that one is a foreigner when they are of western or Asian origin. How about someone from Congo or Rwanda? Just because someone is black doesn’t mean he is not a foreigner. Infact it’s the black foreigners that carry out…
