Opposition MMD president Nevers Mumba says the holding of a convention in his party before the 2016 general elections will not solve anything.
Dr. Mumba says what his party currently needs in harnessing its unity.
In an interview by telephone from Lundazi Dr. Mumba has told Qfm News that this is what has remained his focus as party President.
Dr. Mumba notes that this is especially that his 5 years term of office has not elapsed.
He says anyone who therefore wants to be part of the MMD’s new focus must join his administration which he says is currently mobilizing ahead of the 2016 general elections.
Dr. Mumba says any member who on the other hand wants to cause disruption in the former ruling party will be dealt with a heavy arm of the party.
And Dr. Mumba has disclosed that in the next 9 days his party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) will announce resolutions of its recent meetings.
Dr. Mumba says the resolution will include plans of how the MMD will face the 2016 general elections and how each party member should get involved in mobilization.

Mumba .. you don’t need an Angel to remind you that you have finished MMD
The chap is just scared that he will lose if he goes to the convention… some of us still believe in the values and ideologies of Mmd…we can’t allow it burn to ashes just because this selfish chap doesn’t have any other major source of major income… Mmd is not a for one selfish individual, Ba Mumba we won’t relent until NEC calls for a convention… Mmd was built on the respect of the constitution and democracy, that’s why even FTJ failed to impose the third term… no one is above the constitution Ba pastor.. mean time the fight continues
Nevers Mumba is a Joke. U don’t have to be a Rocket Scientist to see that MMD in its current status is as bad as a rotten carcass.
The advantage of a convention is that their will have to be elctions from Branch level to NEC Level. Hence it will be a great way of Party Mobilisation, not those aimless meetings he is having.
Its quite shocking that he can say that his mandate is ending in 2017, when he knows that he was finishing RBs tenure which ends on the 26th of April, 2016.
The 2016 elections won’t solve zambias problems but democracy demands that we hold them, the same is the case with the MMD, Democracy demands that they as a party hold their convention as stated in the party constitution article number 14. Dr Mumba needs to be reminded of the circumstances that led to him being elected as president of the MMD, he needs to be reminded that the mmd as a party was founded on the basis and principle of developing a democratic nation, the Zambia we know today where the rule of law is greater than one mans ambition. Nevers should just accept that no one wants him in mmd he is the worst thing to ever happen to the party… he needs to let go while he still has his pride… a convention is a must democracy demands it… the people demand it… time for rebranding the party is now… besides the mmd constitution did not cover issues of the 50+1 and the running mate clause…. meaning the constitution needs to be amended and can only be done through a convention… the convention will begin the party mobilisation process and will also be the place to launch the roadmap for campaigns.
