The Grand Coalition on the Campaign for the People Driven Constitution has been challenged to explain whether or not it has intentions of transforming into a political party.

This follows its announced plans of wanting to de-campaign the ruling PF ahead of the 2016 general elections owing the Parliamentary amendments that have been made to the Constitution.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) thinks that it is wrong for the Grand Coalition to take this route just because its demand for a people driven constitution through a referendum has not been met.

YALI governance advisor Isaac Mwale says his organization is of the view that if indeed the Grand Coalition is serving the interest of the Zambian people it should focus on the amendments that have been made to the constitution.

In an interview with Qfm News Mr. Mwanza says there are better things that have come out from amendments that have been made to the constitution.

Mr. Mwanza says the Grand Coalition should therefore be reminded that are civil society organization this is what should be its focus.

He says if however the Grand Coalition is interested in politics it should consider dissolving and forming a political party.

Meanwhile, the ruling Patriotic Front says it is not moved or threatened by the announcement by the Grand Coalition to de-campaign it in next year’s elections.

PF Secretary General Davies Chama recalls that the coalition in the run-up to this year’s presidential by-election did not support his party yet the ruling party won the election.

Mr. Chama adds that the Grand Coalition made some political parties to sign social contracts and supported those who signed yet they did not win.

He states that the resolution by the Grand Coalition to de-campaign the PF therefore has no bearing on the ruling party’s re-election next year.

And MMD Spokesperson Raphael Nakachinda says Grand Coalition members will do well to form a political party rather than taking active roles in politics.

Mr. Nakachinda says if the Grand Coalition really wants to de-campaign the PF and MMD, they should form a political movement which will actively participate in the elections rather than hiding in the name of Civil Society Organizations.

  1. they wanted sitting allowance, free meals and a fat pay check after the referendum and edgar lungu has worked against their plans.understand the cries of a beaten man!

    • YALI is increasingly becoming irrelevant to Zambian politics because all its leaders seem to be in PF ‘s pockets.

How on earth can YALI endorse the stupidity and f00lishness being exhibited by PF. YALI of all NGO is supposed to be promoting democratic tenets which the the stupid PF is denigrating. This an organisation being funded by donors to promote fairness but it seems its existence has now out lived its usefulness.

YALI, TIZ have now become extensions of the PF, no doubt about that. I will soon search for their funders and write to them to withdraw funding for these silly organisations.

Only UPND can deliver Zambia from PF caused calamity.

Viva UPND , Viva HH and his team.

    • Next topic please…. The so called Grandee chakuti is consistently inconsistent with its acts of aberration. The chaps leading it manifest selective amnesia. Remember, nomba nabu nashalaneka nibu Grand coalition mu Zambia. Our country is never short of theatrics of the disillusioned. De-campaign or alliance with any party, they only bring Diminishing returns of negative values with respect to the Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility. The chaps cannot afford even a ward election victory anywhere on earth. Then what impact do they have on the Zambian national constituency anyways?

    • @Senior Citizen,,,,

Still bungling English my man. When will you just write a piece free of nonsensical epigrams?

You say, “….they only bring Diminishing returns of negative values with respect to the Law of Diminishing Marginal Utility.”

Did you want to say, “…negative marginal returns”?
What does “marginal returns,” in this context, got to do with “utility” anyway?

Education or should I say, Economics, twikatila pakati.

  2. Grand coalition is an organisation of failed intentions. First it was black friday. A total failure it was. Next it was signing of social contracts. Then de campaigning of PF in 2015. That too was a total flop. So now they come again with decampaigning PF and openly supporting UPND. Come 2016 Grand coalition will be in grand closing as it will become truelly irrelevant

  3. YALI had set standards among NGOs, am impressed with way they have maintained level – headedness even among many baseless accusations from either UPND or PF. I personally support Zambia Forward but I think our intolerance as a party is costing us dearly. I have no doubt YALI has spoken for Zambians and our mistake has been to listen to discredited characters And fathers in the Grand Coalition. I think YALI has helped govt more than the Grand Coalition had helped us. I personally ain’t scared of the tantrums of Chilufya Tayali but am scared every time I hear YALI Speaks and we don’t listen. It’s time for HH to part company with the Grand Coalition. It’s a liability

    • People should stop saying, “….if you do &%#@, then you should %#@&!
      Nonsense!
Any organization that finds an administration running contra to it’s own policies dubbed manifestos should say what it feels without attracting censure from another organization like itself.

People, our enemy is not in another organization, it is he who is consigning the future of our country to perpetual poverty acting like dumb-mute on critical issues such as the economy and load-shedding.
