Almost the entire Zambia is experiencing a blackout, a second in two weeks.

Power was cut around 18:45 Hours to all parts of Zambia except for Southern and Western Provinces.

As at 21: Hours all the affected areas were not restored with supply.

Energy Minister Dora Siliya confirmed that all parts of the country are in darkness except for the two provinces which are supplied by Victoria Falls station.

Mrs Siliya said the cause at the moment is unknown but it implies a fault at Kariba and Kafue which supply the provinces affected.

On December 10th 2015, the country suffered a similar power failure which plunged almost the entire nation into total darkness.

The cause of that incident was an overload on the Kariba system which caused the trippings at Kafue power station which feeds most of the country.

    • “Mrs Siliya said the cause at the moment is unknown “, this what we have always said about these lay abouts in PF, they do NOT KNOW anything. Country was is on auto pilot. Last week, there was a fuel shortage and Silly was out out the country completely detached. We deserve better, not this mediocrity.

    • Zambia Lacks Planning in addition to poor leadership, We have to take the Energy Crisis seriously than just making jokes when the economy is being affect.

Dora get serious and put up solid Action plans. Please don’t disappoint us as you are educated??

HH Make sure You appoint educated strategic Ministers not these fat puffs who believe in theft and development.

    • Obatala, there was no fuel shortage, but service stations run out of fuel because truck drivers refused to work when one of their colleagues was shot at Lake oil while syphoning fuel. this does not amount to shortage. when you don’t have infomrmation, it is better to be quiet!

    • This is just the beginning of worse things to come. All experienced and competent engineers have been retired from Zesco to pave way for Mundende and his principals to EAT unhindered? Mundende, a not- good and competent engineer himself has gotten rid of all those with institutional memory On how to handle this company….. Please prepare yourselves folks, the WORST is on its way………

  1. I don’t need to comment, BBC reported the truth,

Analysts say that Zambia’s – and sub-Saharan Africa’s – energy crisis is caused by a lack of planning, a lack of investment as a result of low tariffs, prevarication by politicians and poor management of resources.

I still can say something, “This is what Politics of Poverty does to the Continent of Africa”.

    • Is this “politics of poverty” or is this POLITICS OF THE BELLY by greedy corrupt and incompetent people calling themselves politicians, while they are actually just thieves and LIARS that have grabbed public money for their own use?

What makes stealing TAXPAYERS MONEY any different to a corrupt lawyer stealing his clients money? Except that now it is billions being STOLEN instead of thousands!

    • With this kind of sentiments from dollar you mean you can say we have leaders who can serve us better. PF is a batch of fools. All I have seen in PF is people running to the media to address issues they are not sure of. As far as it is known every fault is caused by something, now how the hell does she tell the nation that the fault is unknown? Why not wait to find the cause then address the nation later! PF has failed me period.

  2. …ECL must show leadership…fire everyone from the minister herself to manager distribution and maintenance…
..if this cannot be attributed to incompetency what will…?? Hardly a week has passed since the same grave incident occurred…when plane crushes, the engineers do a forensic investigation to ensure that similar fault don’t cause another catastrophe…..but looks like the govt and ZESCO always trivialises these black outs….do we really need to bring in the Germans or the Swedish to sort out the problem permanently….if they cannot resign on their own…..fire the lot man….eeish

    • @Scrutinizerer, I believe to that list we need to include the board and newly confirmed MD of ZESCO! They are a total disgrace or is there something big that these chaps are hiding in their usual “dont kubeeba” style??

  3. THIS IS UPND ENGINEERS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF LOW WATER LEVELS IN KARIBA TO DECAMPAIGN PF. WHERE IS OP THERE SUPPOSE TO ARREST THIS GROUP ALREADY. ITS THE SAME GROUP WHICH SWITCHED OFF POWER IN THE STADIUM. FIRE THEM LIKE IT HAPPENED TO ZP OFFICERS.

  4. its global, in India there is was power blackout according to ZESCO India spokesperson Mr. Hendrix Mujahidi. He that the power failure was due to a system disturbance on the sub station that interconnects India and Pak *istan. And the Pak* istan Government chief government spokes person blamed the power failure on the opposition. he says that political systems and power systems are closely related, if there is a disturbance in the political system, the power system will also be affected. for this reason the government called for a national day of power and political reconciliation which the opposition shunned, he has since warned the opposition to take such national events seriously. At the same meeting the minister for power has warned the opposition not to politicize the issue but…

  5. What did Father Frank Bwalya do to the Eurobond proceeds while at ZESCO? Also, what is Bishop Chomba doing to resolve this crisis as PS of energy? Unfortunately, Zambians are now paying the price for inappropriately qualified individuals occupying strategic positions at the national electric utility and ministry of energy.

  6. continued
the issue but rather concentrate in mobilization their parties in view of the revised power order act (POA). This is freddie keembe reporting for washington post.

    • They were more than four power black outs during Chitundu’s reign at ZESCO, so what are you saying? Faults of such nature do occur on complex systems like the one in ZESCO just like they happen in US, UK,Japan, German, you name them, the only thing is that you dont just get to know about them.
The question you lunatics in UPND must be asking is, has ZESCO restored back power to the network? If yes, then they have competent people managing these institutions.

    • UFO have you been to any of these countries you just mentioned? Have you ever heard of power failure in half of the USA. Not even a state, later on a city, can have such catastrophes happening without someones’s head on a chopping board. The thing is it doesn’t happen to them because they plan, as well as maintain their sources of power. Above all, they don’t get power from just ONE source

  7. YET YOU STILL FIND PEOPLE IN DENIAL HAILING PRAISES FOR THIS GOVERNMENT. FACE BANE!!! THIS WAS THE BIGGEST BLUNDER IN THE HISTORY OF BAD GOVERNMENT. Kekekekekeke!
    PF KUWAYAWAYA FYE!

    • With all this mess, idiylotis such as UFO and Munene on here will stills be saying PF fyotoo…..distinguishing what politics of the belly can do in brainwashing someone!

  8. If you’ve had enough of this Lord Shedding, try Lord Jesus. He will never leave you in the dark ( ignorant ) for He is the light of this world. John 8:12

  9. bring more investor who could invest in energy supply , so that we could even have cheaper tariff ,and no more black out. we dont need to depent on zesco alone , zesco is also overloaded . could not manage alone

  10. For a party that prides itself on being young and fresh, UPND have a “freshness” deficit on their hands when compared to PF or now defunct MMD. HH has been around for almost three decades now and that doesn’t exactly bring excitement. Hot in his torn shoes were RB and Sata, who were first elected to parliament HH was still in school. The potential of electing the first Tonga commander-in-chief lost out to the freshness and newness of ECL. Unless the PF runs off and nominates someone like Kambwili, PF will undoubtedly have the fresher, newer and more exciting candidate, should Lungu not re-run in 2016

  11. Here is HH’s real problem: He is dull as a Zambian politician. Like, a copper knife made out of leftover mineral dull. We can all admit that Nevers Mumba was quite a dull candidate for the MMD. RB was famously wooden, too. But HH just may break the political ceiling on political dullness. Every move is calculated. There is little spontaneity to be like other Zambian politicians. This was a huge reason Sata, RB and even Mwamba Emmanuel were able to sneak in and topple the would have been 2015 Zambia’s president (HH). Hate Sata, RB or even Lungu, at least they were/are- exciting. Just watch the recent (December 19, 2015) video circulating on face book of Lungu dancing at Chamba Valley as commander-in-chief of armed forces. Lungu proved once again that he is a people’s president and knows…

  12. CONT:how to have fun. At one time HH was new, and fresh, and different. In the age of social media, dullness doesn’t sell well. When was the last time someone talked about a street or common language spoken by HH? HH recently in UK while speaking to all white audience insulted the PF’s policies, and came off an unpatriotic. Insults or being unpatriotic doesn’t get Zambians to turn the television on, as was evident when many flocked to Sata’s funeral. Zambians like someone like them, street smart.

This isn’t to say HH can’t win. That would be stupid. But he isn’t a typical Zambian politician common/street voters can relate to and he probably isn’t a lot of like the class of 2015 cabinet ministers. In the end, voters might ask for more than simply being able to check off the party box…

  13. CONT:for President. All other past presidential candidates offered a lot of reasons for a lot of common/street people to vote for them. What else does HH have to offer that has not been heard or seen?

  14. No leadership whatsoever!!
President is busy preparing for his next Dancing, & Drinking siesta.
WHY COMPLAIN?? SURELY HE DID WARN YOU, HE HAD NO VISION!
Continue Dancing Mr President, You got some moves for sure.

  16. FELLOW ZAMBIANS ITS TIME TO ACCEPT THE ONLY REALITY.”WE HAVE A TOTALLY USELESS GOVERNMENT”. DENIAL ONLY LEADS TO MORE FAILURE. JUST ACCEPT THE TRUTH PF KUWAYAWAYA FYE!

  17. Welcome to Zambia the real africa where a clueless, visionless, brainless, useless drunkard who spend most of his time drinking jemason is ruling the 70% sober minded people.
