President Edgar Lungu is concerned with the deterioration of family value system in Zambia.

The Head of State says a scenario where the aged are stigmatized and discriminated against is uncalled for.

Speaking when he met Matero After Care Centre Officer-In-charge Michelo Mateyo this morning, President Lungu said the aged need to be appreciated and harnessed for their wisdom.

He said there is need to halt stigma against the aged whose welfare is dependent upon the generosity and goodwill of the people.

The President adds that society will only know how best to look after the next generation when it learns from elders.

The Centre Officer-in-charge Michelo Mateyo disclosed that many elderly people are stigmatised against on allegations of witchcraft.

She however, noted the need for more sensitization among societies.

President Lungu donated various food stuffs including mealie meal, sugar, salt, and peanut butter to the centre.

  1. This is the nerve of blessings. In Jeremiah chapter 29, we read the scripture that the prophet draws attention to God’s intention that his people’s work should bless and serve the communities around them, and not only the people of Israel and higher places. Bless your heart Sir!

    • @Senior, you are a finished man. How do you bless people who drink everyday. Just look in those pictures, the man has been drinking a night before.

    • As it were with the Jews’ success in Babylon, so shall it be with those observing these fundamentals. Eventual success of Jews was tied to Babylon’s success. “Pray to the Lord almighty on [people-the city’s] behalf, for in their welfare you will find your welfare” (Jer. 29:7). This statement call to civic responsibility twenty-six hundred years + ago is valid today. As able bodied and privileged, we are called to work toward the prosperity of the entire community, not merely for our own limited interests. Like the Jews of Jeremiah’s day, we are far from perfect. We may even be suffering for our faithlessness and corruption among us. Nonetheless we are called and equipped to be a blessing to the societies in which we live and work. God called his people to use their various job skills to…

    • God called his people to use their various job skills to serve the surrounding communities. Scripture says, “Seek the welfare of the city in which I your God has sent you into exile” (Jer. 29:7). With unparalleled judgement, President Lungu has kept showing us solid understanding of fundamentals of national restoration.

    • @Nostradamus well said about finished (clapped out) Senior Citizen who formerly lauded MMD and told us day and night about how RB and company who be ripped from power by MCS! We told Senior Citizen, MCS will romp RB! Today we are telling him- PF can’t win any election without relying on government misuse of resources! Today he is supporting a lame duck again!

    • Giving to the disadvantaged is good, however such gestures should be left to the Church, NGO’s, CBO’s, Ministry of Social Services, private individuals and opposition parties who do not have the power to change policies, reduce poverty and unemployment levels on national levels. The Executive’s duty is to implement workable policies to mitigate the factors that lead to being disadvantaged and reduce the unemployment levels to less that 10%. Commending the Executive for doing the work of Churches, NGO’s, private individuals, Ministry of Social Services and opposition parties is refusing to admit that the process is broken.

  2. This article lacks substance. I doesn’t tell us what Kaminamisa Lungu will do about the stigmatization apart from lamenting about it and donating Jiggies to the elderly

    Another Chimbwi No Plan

    Aleisa HH

    • Aba Tonga and their party. Do you realize how far u have gone? It’s politics all the time..Don’t worry if it is a pointed that HH will lead Zambia this year it shall be so. why panicking and becoming inhuman all. becoz of politics …kekekeke

  3. Edgar need to worry about himself and other stigmatized drunkards. Anything he says people think he is drunk.

  4. Really laughable indeed…he is making such utterances when his reckless govt is not paying retirees their dues yet wasting funds on bloated expenditure..they only pensioners enjoying are old man Shamenda and Fossil Chikwanda. Never mind the lazy bum Edgar is doesn’t know what he is speaking about as he is nursing a hangover from last night.

  5. lungu is a lazy bum, now he is copying the friend to appear like he cares for the people and when he gets their vote disappears and tunes back to enjoying himself. It’s so sad when you ask the people why they like EL all they say is humility, voting for humility before your own betterment is both dangerous and disastrous. I hope they don’t sentence themselves to starvation by voting for this dude again.

  6. Some people are just angry by nature. I fail to understand how one can be angry this long. Some times we should appreciate the small things. How is President Lungu always attacked and insulted. Remember we the internet warriors are not the voters. happy new year.

    Viva President Nawakwi.

  7. Testing.
I had an experience where a Pastor commanded everyone to empty their pockets, including transport fare into the offering box, a directive I did not obey.
After I caught a bus at the end of the service, I noticed a long line of people walkng home after giving their transport money to the pastor.

  8. Ba jay jay or whatever you call yourself. Your preferred candidate is not winning the 2016 elections. Stop cheating yourselves that ,your small god hh is any near plot 1 , zero bakalamba. I can bet 1000 pounds UK bamudala ifintu nafikosa. Under PF tuli mimisebo( Roads) in our townships. Ifyo ifya kwacha ati yalipona fyenu uko kwine mwebabomba na ma dollars. Lose of electricity should be an opportunity for all who call themselves ati ba engineer, Its actually laughable. I produce my own electricity by just using a chibuku drum…

  9. So unless hh making donations it will make sense…
I wonder! This is why i say ba under 5, a party full of demons.Pls insult and name calling, all you like .The truth is President ECL is the head of state.

  12. Look at President Lungu’s jean trousers , looks faded completely. He seems to be down to earth for me! . And if cerebrating new year with the old and neglected is a crime , then I’m lost completely.

  13. This is a focal point for Zambia at this time. As we head to a middle income country we need to ensure all citizens ate included. Equality among citizens must be legislated for. Ageism and Ageist Actions must be prosecutable.
