A second half penalty goal from Collins Mbesuma handed MP Black Aces a slender 1-0 win over Polokwane City in an Absa Premiership match at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday night.

The win helped Aces leapfrog Bidvest Wits into second place. Aces moved to 27 points, tied with table-topping Mamelodi Sundowns but behind on goal difference. Polokwane, meanwhile, remain 13th with their 12 points.

With Aces coming into the game placed third on the table with the chance to go top of the log, it was either nerves or rustiness which resulted in a lethargic start to the contest against the relegation-threatened Polokwane.

The game began at a slow pace with few real goal-scoring chances for either side.

The usually attacking Polokwane outfit failed to create any serious threat going forward, to the extent that both goalkeepers were hardly called into action in the first 45 minutes.

  1. Yes, it is very true. remember when Chris Katongo left Cosmos midway through the league? He had scored 15 goals and was the league’s top scorer despite having played only 50% of the games. They don’t have goal scorers in South Africa. Top scorers average 14 goals per season, so at 8 points Mbesuma is doing very fine and could end up top scorer although he is surrounded by players who cant read the game the way he does.

    • Iwe PM PSL is tough gone are the days when strikers scored more goals look at the EPL right now 15 goals is the top scorer & when say he is surrounded by players who don’t read the game which players are you referring to because he is the lone striker and he gets the assists.
