Expelled Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati has charged that MMD is not for sale and that members of the former ruling party will not allow a group of people sale the party to the highest bidder.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lusaka today Mr Mutati said MMD was still alive but that some individuals in the party wants to drive it to its extinction with their dictatorial tendencies.
He said there is no individual in the party who is above the party and that members of the party were not for sale.
He said he still remains the member of the MMD because the republican constitution protects him from being expelled as he is one of the three MPs who has taken the matter of the convention to court.
He also said MMD was a democratic party which was formed on the principles of democracy which the current party President Nevers Mumba has continued to abrogate as he continues expelling members of the party with divergent views.
He accused Dr Mumba of replacing most the NEC members with his relatives adding that the party’s fortunes have been entrusted in the hands of appointees.
Meanwhile Mr Mutati says he has instructed his lawyer Sakwiba Sikota to deal with the matter of him appearing on the UPND calendar to seek for damages as the publication of the calendar has injured his reputation.
He said Mr Sikota who has also appeared on the same calendar has sued the publisher and has asked for all the proceeds from the sale of the calendar as well as the withdrew of the calendar from the market.
And Mr Mutati has assured his supporters and the membership countrywide that they will decide the direction of the party as they are the owners of the institution.
He said he is not seeking to President of the former ruling party for himself but to make a contribution to the well being of the party and the country at large.
He said he does not carry any bitterness but his load was that of ensuring that the party survives because one day it will return to its former glory days.
He added that with his experience in running the affires of the country his leadership is that of value addition and that he can not sale the party as he has never done that before.
Mr Mutati has since challenged Dr Mumba to test his popularity in the party by calling for a convention adding that whether he wants it or not the convention will be there.

It is painful & ironic that UNIPISTs who campaigned against the introduction of plural politics (RB & Nevers) were handed the MMD carcass to devour without mercy. Founder members like Authur Wina, Mulemba, Christon, Mung’omba must be turning in their graves. The WRONG notion PROPAGATED by late FTJ that politics is about NUMBERS rather that sets of BELIEFS & SERVICE is very much to blame. The population & media needs to QUESTION the motive behind alliances/defections/endorsements. A president who defects from/abandons his own party to join a ruling party for instance (e.g Nevers defecting from his NCC) is not up for service but is a GOLD DIGGER & must be exposed for what he is. Interesting combination Mutati Sikota wouldn’t it be right for me to conclude RB is championing all this remember this Sikota guy is also for RB. One thing i dont understand though is why Mutati had to wait for somebody to challenge him about the same calendar I have not even come across myself before issuing threats about suing somebody. That is good Mr.Mutati!! Better to take a legal position than what we saw earlier on – violence. What is not clear is whether the legal process will go through before elections and whichever way it comes out, you are already a divided party as was witnessed during the January 2015 by-election. However,if the courts rule that Nevers can continue being a President till the end of his mandate of 5 years (2012-17) couple using the precedent of MMD foregoing conventions in some election years,you may have a harder task at hand bcoz even if you win to stay as a member you may not be adopted to contest as MP on MMD. Worse still you already failed to bring votes to UPND in Jan’15 even in your constituency.Under such a scenario,your political survival is looks very very tricky!!

The opposite is true ,the only question is who should sell it between Never and Mutati and who should be the buyer between PF and UPND? Jan’15 election set the ground of division and that has changed only slightly with those that campaigned for Lungu likely to unite with those that stayed with Nevers during the by- election!

Mutati has himself to blame, after what happened in January 2015, Nevers extended an olive branch to all the rebel MPs including Mutati, they were forgiven, accepted back and warned never to repeat the same mistakes failure to which a straight expulsion would be applied, but because of his lack of principals he allowed himself to be used by UPND when he was put on that calender, now that things are sour he wants to disociate himself from UPND and plead the innocent one, what a shame! ebu chimbwi afwile intangalalo ubo.
