Mbesuma rues Congo draw

Chipolopolo striker Collins Mbesuma says Congo-Brazzaville’s defensive tactics frustrated Zambia in the two teams 2017 Africa Cup qualifier match that finished 1-1 on Wednesday night in Ndola.

Zambia were denied their first home win in Group E by Congo who came from behind to force a 1-1 stalemate at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium to maintain the status quo in the pool.

Mbesuma said Zambia are putting behind the disappointing draw to focus on Sunday’s reverse fixture in Brazzaville.

“I think in Congo they will play an open game. They want to get three points and we want to get three points. So it is going to be an open game,” Mbesuma said.

“We have to work extra hard in order to get three points. We have to prepare well,” the Mpumalanga Black Aces striker said.

Zambia are without a home win at Levy in Group E since last June when they finish 0-0 with Guinea Bissau in their opening group E match.

Congo and Zambia stayed 1st and 2nd respectively tied on 5 points while Guinea Bissau are 3rd on 4 points after beating Kenya 1-0 in Bissau.

    • Simply they were supposed to change playing tactics instead of blaming the opponent. Defensive was good for them as they have had scored an away goal which is very important for them

    • @Kanjimano simply say a point away from home was what Congo came for. Away goals don’t count in round Robin leagues like this one.

  1. Defensive tactics? I thought Congo were really going for it, especially in the second half. They didn’t strike me as a team that sat back, relying on counter-attacks. Let’s just acknowledge that we were blunt in front of goal! Zambia all the way!
