The embattled Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) President Dr Nevers Mumba has called on members of the party to ignore the announcement that there will be a convention between the 20th and 22nd of May.

Speaking when he addressed the media in Lusaka Thursday, Dr Mumba said there are people who are using blood money to ascend to the presidency of the party by all means.

In an apparent reference to the Mutati faction, Dr Mumba said some people are using the money they are getting from what is happening in the country to fight his presidency.

He wondered how the Mutati faction has suddenly found money to litter around when the party has been struggling financially.

He further said it was irresponsible for some individuals to pick venerable people from streets and portray them as MMD members when in fact they were not.

He described the faction as imposters who are being used by known elements to take over the party and that he will not step aside because he is the legitimate President of the party adding that no amount will be able to buy the party.

The MMD president further said that the MMD is the party that is holding the political balance for the outcome of the August, 2016 General Elections, hence the wrangles in the former ruling party.

Dr. Mumba revealed that the continued fighting was as a result of the well-known strategic position the MMD holds ahead of the general election.

He said it was therefore not shocking that suspended National Secretary, Mwansa Mbulakulima and others facing disciplinary action from the party, have now re-grouped to use fraudulent and criminal means, including forging documents which they presented before a Court of Law to attempt to take over the leadership of the party.

“The presiding High Court judge examined the documents presented by suspended National Secretary Mbulakulima and ruled that they were improperly filed in the Court and had no legitimacy and therefore refused to sign the Order of Consent to allow the group hold a convention,” Dr. Mumba said.

“It is therefore shocking that upon emerging from the hearing which was held in chambers, Mr. Mbulakulima addressed his rented crowd outside to inform them that the Court had issued a Consent Court Order permitting them to hold a convention and that all the suspended and expelled members had been re-instated, when in fact not,” said Dr. Mumba

Dr Mumba explained that the reason for the briefing was to assure members of the MMD and the nation at large that the party was still intact and in full control under his leadership and the Nec and that expelled and suspended members are just playing immoral politics.

“This meeting is to tell our members nation-wide who have been following these events since yesterday that our colleagues lied before the Courts of law and actually committed a criminal offence by lying that the Court had issued a Consent Order for them to hold a convention when in fact not,” he explained.

Dr. Mumba said it was unfortunate and total mischievous for suspended and expelled members to even set the dates for the convention when the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved not to go for a convention.

“It is criminal, they set a date, all that is fraudulent, criminal and extremely unfortunate for people who want to be in leadership to do that. We want to confirm with our general membership that they must disregard the action with the contempt it deserves; I am president of the MMD and your NEC is still intact. We are not holding any convention as suggested by our colleagues,” he reiterated.

“All they want is power, they have no structures. We are in charge of the MMD as NEC and we made a decision that the convention will be deferred until after the 2016 general elections and that decision stands; every resolution we made stands; so we ask our members to disregard all that is going on with our colleagues because it is just a side-show.”

He said the MMD exists as a party and will strongly participate in the forthcoming general elections, adding that this weekend he would be touring provinces to inspect on the progress the party has made in identifying people to contest in various constituencies on the MMD ticket.

Dr. Mumba said he was now hopeful that, the party has gained strength to be able to stand firm in readiness for the elections.

    • Great Mr Mumba, all of us at LT believe you are winning this battle and all of us at Lusaka Times love you

He was a Vice President at one time you don’t become that without having an ounce of Intelligent.

Like all of you I agree we all believe in advancing in life, if you have been the Vice president and you want to advance, the only place next will be the land of Zion, aside from Sampa, Mr Mumba being from the right tribe is the NEXT BIG THING

      Thanks

      Bb2014

    • Mumba cannot entertain anything that would result in him losing the MMD presidency because that is his source of livelihood. The man will fight till last drop of blood.

    • Mumba if you stand on solid ground, WHY DON’T YOU REPORT THEM TO THE COURT SO THAT THEY CAN BE CITED FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT!!!

Stop ifya ku bwata bwata fye mu tu ma News Briefings!!

    • Nevers has admits that he sees no way MMD can win the elections. MMD holds the balance to usher in another parTy into Government. He is better off reconciling with others to achieve that.

    • OPPORTUNIST MUMBA SEEMS TO BE SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA. MUMBA IS TOTALLY CONFUSED, WITH ONLY 3MONTHS BEFORE GENERAL ELECTIONS. VIVA UPND VIVA! ZAMBIA CHANGES GOVERNMENT ON AUGUST 11. ZAMBIA FORWARD WITH HH!

  1. if u are the right man why are u avoiding the convention? if u are u will automatically return the presidency as simple as that

  2. MMD practices democracy. PF holds conventions. UPND one dictator since 2006, no democracy. UPND is undemocratic and can take Zambians backwards in democratic development. Kudos to PF and MMD for lively democratic practice. All the internal wrangles are healthy and can only make you stronger. Zambia, vote for democracy, not the cattle rustler dictator.

    • Yes, No secrete ballots! PF minions vote by raising Pangas, hands and even legs! Ask Edgar Lungu, Miles Sampa or Guy Scott so that you can get the version of Democracy you PF minions know!! CNP for sure you are!!

  3. When people don’t want you, its best to pack and go. Go sit down, take a breath, analyse what went wrong and in five years recontest the Presidency.

  4. ? ‘MMD is the party that is holding the political balance for the outcome of the August, 2016 General Elections?’

It is a pity that a party that is clearly struggling with its own internal strategy is the one to hold the balance of which party wins elections(according to fantasy). The big mistake was Dr Mumbai welcoming back all expelled members. It was not a good strategy in advancing a stronger MMD. NEVER REVIST PAST mistakes. Memories fade and we become magnanimous to our Enemies, but an Enemy is just that. When you shed bad friends don’t be tempted to go back, trust your initial decision.

  5. Sorry but Not sure if some of the claimed conventions of raising arms are anything to go by… besides without the now much hated Muzungu insisting on having a convention PF would not even be bragging of holding one becoz we all know where it was headed. So all parties need to style up when it comes to internal democracy its so pathetic and only the MMD has had a better record…. though we know how tailored and doctored they have been in the past. So lets not start with this Nonsense of some partys dont hold conventions they are all a farce

  6. Nevers we are tired tired of your rantings that aren’t helping your party … we need strong party’s in Zambia to enhance democracy and development…. unfortunately having rhetorical skills alone and very short term motives isn’t gonna help this country

  7. Awa wandi!!! THIS STUBBORN AND ARROGANT PASTOR THAT IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR JOBS INSTEAD OF FIGHTING FOR POOR PEOPLE. HE IS A SELLOUT AND HE SHOULD GO, NO ONE IN MMD WANTS HIM. ON WHAT BASIS WAS HE SUPPORTING LUNGU EVEN AFTER LUNGU HAS DESTROYED THE COUNTRY AND ALWAYS FINDS AN EXCUSE INSTEAD OF TRYING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

  8. Nevers, you have really suffered for too long. No one was born to fight battles in perpetuity. It’s clear politics being a cup of tea to others is actually your poison. Go back to the pulpit mudala. Go and do something that you enjoy doing. You deserve to be happy together with your family.

  9. Mumba is made of iron! Mwanawasa could not stand him – he fired him! RB failed to dribble him. Now Mutati and Mbulakulima – kaya!

    • He is just an irritant who can’t accept that he is not popular. Look at his performance in the last election. His only aim is to chew money from the MP’s. What matters is his stomach not the suffering Zambians

  10. UPND the United Party for National Destruction are a danger to Zambia. Let’s not pretend, I’ve seen what they are capable of doing. Just reading their hateful comments is truelly an eye-opener. God prevent such evil from growing. A party that incites violence and then screams from the side-lines. A party of ZWD bloggers that spew insults and fail to reason when they see that other people have opposing views. Hopeless blood thirsty animals they are.

    • @2020visionless: This clueless toilet cleaner is has no sensible job but spreading sh.it during the day and washing bums at night!! No real job – just bloging during the day and going to wipe other people’s ar.s.es at night!! Bwana, find something sensible – what a lowlife!!

  11. PF selected their leader at the last convention marred with violence with show of hands, legs and pangas. Is that democracy… Kaya. No wonder we now have these numerous problems including ritual murders!

  12. Is this guy out of his mind? Why is he relating the current killing in Lusaka to what other people he has expelled or intending to stop from having the convention from taking place linked to the killing. What a POSTER he claims to be. Just hold the convention and all the wrangles will end in the MMD. By the way I am neither MMD, PF, or an other political part member. Mumba grow up and allow the convention to take place. What do you have to lose? Tell the nation

  13. Zambia strikes me as a nation of thin-skinned egos walking on egg-shells. There is this behavior of treating matters indiscrimately personal even at the expense of the greater good. At this point I see the iciBemba saying at work: “twalafilila mu nsenga”. Detractors and even incumbents are ready to literally throw the good into the sand so that at the end of it all nobody will find any use for it. Isn’t it small wonder that we think looking for enlightened lawmakers is discrimination!? Nobody admits incapacity – everybody hopes they can make a quick buck before they are discovered.

  14. The raising of hands, pangas and legs by Willy Nsanda’s thugs and you call that democracy. For this reason your ECL will never have my vote. I do not compromise princples.

  15. It is inevitable Nevers has to sit with Mutati and Mbulakulima if MMD has to be saved. Continuing to bury the head in the sand will not help the party. Does Nevers realise that most of the current MPs are either going with PF or UPND? So what people make up his present NEC? Elizabeth Chitika and Zaloumis? Most others are people Nevers has selected himself from the street. We thought major Kachingwe was crazy, then came Muhabi Lungu, Chembe Nyangu, Nakachinda and lastly Mbulakulima. Are all these people in the wrong and only Nevers is right all the time? Give Sambo another month and he will be calling for Nevers’ blood. What happened to Lusambo the bosom friend of Nevers?

  16. This so called man of God is self centered and stubborn. He treats the MMD party like his own. I understand he has to eat and all that but his behavior really has ruined the party. He is clinging on and nothing will loosen his hold. How selfish can one person be that he thinks he is the be all and end all of the party? This is not being principled but sheer desperation. Considering he is supposed to be exposed and know about democracy, he does not show it.
