Zambian burnt in Tanzania interred in Nakonde

Share

A 24-year – old Zambian national, Simon Sinkamba who was burnt to death last week on Wednesday in Tunduma of Tanzania has been put to rest in Nakonde District of Muchinga Province.

Sinkamba, who was with his elder brother Sunday, was beaten to death in Mwaka Village by an angry mob on suspicion of being ritual murderers.

Sinkamba’s body was taken back to Zambia and buried at Kapililonga Village over the weekend.

ZANIS reports brother to the deceased Yotam Sinkamba saying that in Tunduma at the weekend that Tanzanian police refused to allow a post-mortem on the body of his brother because of its bad state.

Sinkamba also said that the body of his brother had no both legs and it is not clear if they were burnt or chopped off.

He said police in Tanzania have however, indicated that they will investigate the matter and ensure that people involved are brought to book.

Last week on Wednesday around 16:30 hours at Manga Area of Mwaka Village in Tunduma of Vwawa District of Tanzania a mob justice descended on two Zambian nationals who were speaking Bemba language.

According to the Tanzanian police, the two were attacked for allegedly being behind ritual murders.

However, Tanzanian police managed to rescue one whilst the other one run away to unknown place where he was later captured, beaten and burnt to death by the angry mob.

Sunday Sinkamba, one who was rescued by the police said that they had gone to see the witch doctor to collect charms to boost their business.

Sinkamba said that on their way back they meet Tanzanian nationals and they could not communicate in Swahili hence suspecting them to be ritual murderers.

He said this was happening at the same time when there was a protest in Tunduma against related rumours of ritual murders.

Muchinga Police Commissioner Auxensio Daka last week told Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) that a male Zambian national had been burnt to death by an angry mob in Mwaka Village of Tunduma town on the Zambia Tanzania border.

The Regional Police Command in Tanzania has however, refuted reports of any ritual murders in the area and it has since commenced a sensitisation campaign against the rumours going round.

Muchinga Police Commissioner Daka has said that the police command in Tanzania has further made an appointment with the police command at Nakonde to further deal with matter jointly involving rumours of ritual murderers.

A combined team of uniformed and plain clothed Tanzanian security officers where this morning spotted at the office of the District Commissioner Field Simwinga.
Efforts to get a comment from the DC Mr. Siwminga failed by press time.

  1. This is really sad.. Violence gives birth to violence. You see what is now happening to other Zambians because of we treated the Rwandese nationals? It might not be related, but i suspect a slight connection. Treat people well and others will also treat your people well.

    • Tanzania also seems to be a very backward nation. This is a country that is internationally known for maiming and killing of albinos, harvesting their body parts for lucky charms and who knows what. And now, they’re at it again with their primitive mob justice, just because they hear people speaking a foreign language. The Tanzanian government needs to get serious in educating their citizens, and help them come out their ancient superstitious dark ages, into the modern civilized world.

  2. Mr. Intelligent, I fully support you on this one. Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. What Zambian did to the Rwandese and Congolese was very bad- be it political or not

  3. A land of so much diversity is also the most racist country in the world. Indians are the most racist people in the world and even today, a child born in the Indian family is taught to worship anyone with white skin and look down upon anyone with dark skin. And thus was born the Indian racism against Africans and other dark skinned people. A fair skinned foreigner gets treated like a god and a dark skinned one is treated very badly.Among Indians themselves too there are conflicts between castes and people from different regions like the problem between Marathi Manoos and Biharis. And yet, Indians won’t accept this fact and boast about the culture and diversity and acceptance. It is high time we open our eyes to what the situation truly is

    • @3 Kato, while I do not see the direct relationship with the subject at hand, I do agree that Indians are very racist. In fact as black Africans we need to know that no one likes the black race – it is pretense only when people want to gain something from us that they claim to be on our side. When you are mixed and some are looking for recognition or favours, other races tend to overdo their racism against blacks to please whites to gain advantages over blacks. Unfortunately we black people have no respect for ourselves to a point where our women are bleaching their skins and wearing hair from other humans(Indian,Brazilian etc)..Who can respect such a people??!!

  4. Government should ban witchdoctors who are practicing lucky charms, love charms and charms for business. Traditional healers Association should be encouraged to practice herbs for healing and not for business. This is why Africa is still poor. People need to study and do business according to modern business ideals. Witch doctors are the ones to blame for these ritual murders.

  5. Sad to hear but according to the victim’s brother who survived the lynching: “Sunday Sinkamba, one who was rescued by the police said that they had gone to see the witch doctor to collect charms to boost their business”. I believe that is the source of the death of his brother!! People in the area might have known that those who visit witch doctors there are responsible for ritual murders! All this belief in devilish powers leads to misery and that is one example! As a Christian Nation which we claim to be we need to heighten our resolve to adhere to Christian Principals and NOT this belief in charms we are seeing almost everywhere! Success comes from hard work and discipline and magic has never created any sustainable wealth. I believe for fairness, GRZ should in fact compensate those…

  6. My condolences to the bereaved family. May his Soul Rest In Peace.
“Sunday Sinkamba, one who was rescued by the police said that they had gone to see the witch doctor to collect charms to boost their business.”
Sunday Sinkamba should Joint Tanzania / Zambia Police Investigations Command team prove that the rumours of ritual murderers are true, you will be extradited to Tanzania to face law for crimes you have committed & acknowledged.
Witch Doctor + Charms = Ritual Murderers.
Why not obtain a Bachelors or Masters in Business Administration?

  7. Learn something from tanzaia police
-no arrest made despite the policemen being in the area
-no condermation done to its pipo
Way forward please release all those who were arrested in the ritual murder protest or luting and warn them never to repeat most of them did without knowing the complicatiuns.
But ritual murder suspects shud face the law.do not treat zambian so rough to show off to the world but look at hunger which triggered this tanzania mere going to the which doctor and speaking bemba someone was burnt but has getting human parts with someone proper evidence ~

  8. What is Kalaba and his foreign affairs ministry going to do about this? He is quick at condemning citizens but silent on mistreatment of Zambians abroad.
