United Party for National Development (UPND) has accused the Patriotic Front (PF) of unleashing cadres armed with pangas, machetes, axes and all sorts of dangerous weapons with a view to disrupting the peacefully assembled youths of UPND youths in Matero.
In a statement released to the media this evening by party spokesperson Charles kakoma, the party the praised the courage of Matero residents in thwarting the attacks by PF youths.

PF Attack on UPND Youths in Matero
Yesterday’s incident in which PF thugs sought to disrupt UPND youth mobilisation meetings in Matero Constituency and provoke and attack our members is yet another painful reminder of how violent the PF and it’s leadership are, as well as how intolerant they remain of those with diverging views.
Our youths fully complied with the provisions of the Public Order Act and the police allowed them to hold a meeting. Yet PF cadres left their meeting in Bauleni compound and came with pangas, machetes, axes and all sorts of dangerous weapons with a view to disrupting our peacefully assembled youths.
Even the police were helpless and started tear gassing our youths and residents with a view to dispersing them, instead of protecting our people against their attackers.
It took the courage of the residents to defend themselves from these attackers and we are greatly touched and thankful to the Matero residents for their brave but peaceful conduct in resisting the attackers.
This is not the first time the PF leadership have sent their thugs to attack our peaceful meetings in various parts of the country.
While such incidents continue to go unpunished we expect there will be more of the same. We are still waiting on action following the huge security scare they caused when chasing a plane from the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Airport that was carrying our alliance partner Miles Sampa. This incident happened back in January and yet to date no one has been questioned or arrested.
These incidents are a scar on our conscience and our country. How can we thrive as a nation with such violence? How we will attract investment and drive growth?
The buck must stop with President Edgar Lungu and his PF leadership. They have the instruments of power to stop these ugly scenes that have taken root in our country.

The continued barbaric behaviour of these political thugs is a shame and paints a bad picture on our nation. The country will never progress with this sort of political hooligans.
