Zesco knockout Al Ahly

Share

Creative international midfielder Cletus Chama grabbed a brace as Zesco United launched the 2016 CAF Champions League group stage with a 3-2 win over Egyptian giants Al Ahly at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday.

Chama scored his second half brace in the 49th and 55th minutes to hand the Ndola side a rare win over the record Champions League winner.

Zesco led after 27 minutes with John Ching’andu powering in the first goal after beating Ahly keeper Sherif Ekramy Ahmed with a powerful shot when he was set up by Anthony Akum.

However Zesco’s celebrations were cut short by John Antwi’s equaliser three minutes later as the two teams went to the half time break with a 1-1 stalemate.

Four minutes into the last half, George Lwandamina’s side went up again thanks to Chama’s close range tap in a goal-mouth scramble.

Chama made it 3-1 on 55 minutes when firing in a low shot before Antwi scored Ahly’s second goal in the game.

Thereafter Zesco defended well on their way to beating the Egyptians.

This is a fantastic start for the ambitious Zesco side that is making only a second appearance in the group stages of Africa’s premier club championship.

  1. Al Ahly knocked out? Are Al Ahly out? Always very poor journalism with LT. Your title says Al Ahly is knocked out and in the body of your story nothing is mentioned to explain your title! You guys where are you learning your journalism? Did you mean to say ZESCO beat Al Ahly?

    • There is no journalism in the online media. Anyone can write whatever pleases his supporters. Look at tunfweko ZWD. Online stories have no ethics. Lyashi lyamubwalwa.

    • You 1diots are seriously taking the fun out of this.Your tuzungu nonsense should have a limit.Zesco have achieved something very few Zambian clubs have managed and there you are talking about semantics or whatever it is?Has any one ever wondered how an African will accept broken English spoken by an Indian or a Chinese but insist on his fellow African to speak perfect English? The message is clear.Or let me let it out to you bonzos.
ZESCO HAS MADE US PROUD.VERY FEW TEAMS BEAT AL ALHLY FROM SOUTHERN AFRICA.
so go scratch your balls if that still cant get into your 5tupid heads.

  2. The idio is mailon. If you are a communications professional you operate by the rules of communication. Stop looking for lame excuses. Can you accept poorly brewed Coca cola be ause it is not produced by an American? No! Whoe ver is making it must meet the acceptable standards. And this is not a case of semantics unless you don’t know what semantics are. Don’t subject us to your poor grammar. English is one of the subject s we pass to get a grade 12 certificate so those of us who claim to be educated should be good at it

  3. PLEASE USE EYE CATCHING HEADINGS SUCH AS “ZESCO ELECTROCUTE ALH ALY” OR “ZESCO POWER CUT ALH ALY’S SUPREMACY”
WHAT DO YOU SAY FELLOW BLOGGERS?/

  4. Just to be honest with you guys , i think the Zambian media has become a pot of gold for propaganda . You can hardly find a story without a biased point of view . Yes Zesco did beat Al Ahly but they sure didn’t knock em out .

  5. THere’s no first leg and second leg in the group stage. You win and you get three points. Its a league, Noone gets knocked out. Winners of the group progress to a semi-final tie with runners up of the other group
