UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has called for unity in the party ahead of the August elections.

Mr Hichilema said was speaking Saturday afternoon when he addressed a well-attended rally at Mpezeni Park in Chipata as part of his tour of the Eastern Province.

Accompanied by his running mate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and UPND Vice-President for Politics Dr. Canisius Banda, Mr. Hichilema championed the importance of team work and unity in the UPND.

He said the party should be united if it is to deliver its 10 Point Plan to fix the broken economy and economically liberate the Zambian people.

Mr. Hichilema spoke with passion about his ambitious plans for the agriculture sector.

He accused the PF government of failing to treat it as a priority area, despite the great potential and the high number of Zambians working in the sector.

This lack of commitment, seen in the reduced share of government spending on agriculture, from 7.8% in 2008 to 3.2% of the national budget in 2016, has resulted in the difficulties farmers are facing today, the UPND leader charged, including high input costs, later delivery of fertilizer and a lack of support to access markets.

Mr. Hichilema appealed to the crowds that as a farmer himself he is ready to lead Zambians and move the sector forward.

He said there is need to create a thriving agriculture sector that would create jobs for many, increase incomes and decrease food prices all at the same time.

The UPND leader also spoke of his desire to kick-start value-addition projects in the area so that the people can earn more from their agriculture produce, giving the example of using groundnuts to make peanut butter, which is currently imported by the major supermarkets in the country.

In addition to the two UPND Vice-Presidents, Mr. Hichilema was also accompanied by MMD President Dr. Nevers Mumba, UPND Chairperson Mutale Nalumango, and other party leaders.

The UPND leader’s tour of Eastern Province will continue into next week and today he is expected in Chadiza, Kalemba and Chilenga.

    • Looking at the people closely you can tell from their faces that they have already sealed their vote for Pf. The last picture tell a you how many tongas were in attendance by show of their party hand symbol.
No wind of change bane. Try 2021.

    • There you are with all the space to dream on and freely entertain the crowd. Appreciate Lungu for being a strong practical democrat who has given you unlimited space to vent anger and insult him relentlessly around the clock. Take a minute if the same could have been true under late President Sata MHSRIP. Now prepare to stomach defeat with dignity then start preparing for 2021. Now stop marauding against Nawakwi in your Nega nega zones. Good lucky!

    • “This lack of commitment, seen in the reduced share of government spending on agriculture, from 7.8% in 2008 to 3.2% of the national budget in 2016″……….in 2008 the budget was Kr 13.7 billion whilst in 2016 it stood at Kr 53.14 billion and if we go by the % given by HH, expenditure on agriculture has been increased by Kr 635.2 million. HH don’t tell half truths to confuse the electorates……..you’re forgetting to factor in the vast road infrastructure network developed by PF which will greatly benefit agriculture, in that easy accessibility to the market will significantly reduce costs incurred by farmers………….paint a complete picture and not half truths all in the name of gaining votes.

    • There are very few “Forward hands” being raised…so one can assess the support base for HH in this area…!

    • When A LUNGU a bwela tizanyamula manja omwe aya. koma nkhani yovota, ATONGA anatilangiza kavotedwe. wako ni wako.

    • Senior Citizen, just give it up. You my dear cannot think. Your only skill is being verbose. You say absolutely nothing of value in each of your postings. One would hope you received good schooling at Zambia Online.

But seriously, do you believe a president is merciful when he does not react irrationally to his critics? Does Lungu or any president own Zambia to “permit” people to move and speak freely? Ubututu muleke!

    • HH AND UPND IS THE WAY TO GO BY ALL PROGRESSIVE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE. HH IS GENUINE IN HIS QUEST TO WANT TO TRANSFORM ZAMBIA INTO A BETTER COUNTRY. WE NEED TO GIVE HH THE PLATFORM OF STATE PRESIDENT SO THAT WE TOGETHER MAKE ZAMBIA A BETTER AND PROSPEROUS NATION.HH HAS INDEED A VERY STRONG WILL POWER TO TRANSFORM OUR NATION. VOTE FOR HH. VOTE FOR A BETTER CHANGE. VOTE FOR A NEW ZAMBIA. VIVA HH VIVA!

    • HH thinks the people who have come to listen to him are going to vote for him.
Wrong way to think. Get it from the ground as people talk – you will get the correct picture.
They all go to listen – merely to listen.
      That is all.
      come 11 Aug,2016 – watch this space

  1. Fred Mmembe says:

Don’t be deceived or allow yourselves to be deceived. There is no BUSINESSMAN in Zambia too rich not to want to make any more money. We don’t have billionaires or even multi-millionaires in Zambia.

    • Dull are those UPND cows who think that this Kaponya (HH) will be cooking food and bringing it to their tables.

Dull idiiots Fred Mmembe has told you the honest truth that all these minions are in it for the money.

You live on hand outs and you think Kaponya (HH) is entering State house to increase your hand outs? You think Kaponya (HH) and Mutinta will be cooking food for you and filling your impoverished stomachs? You honestly believe this greedy polygamist will let his 3 Widows and concubine Masebo cook food for you? Be practical and stop living in Utopia.

Nega nega beggars grow up and stop being Under 5.

    • Mmembe is almost right.
What we have is one CONVICTED EMBEZZLER who amassed 10 million in three and half years as Minister and further 13 million in 15 months as president whilst inviting IMF to solve structural and financial problems created by him and his fellow corrupt demagogues.

  2. I am satisfied with what was spoken by the UPND leader. What did the other speakers say? This selective type of reporting makes this website not fit for purpose.

  3. Kaponya (HH) and his Gender Based Molester (GBM) are nothing but common crooks who can even go to the extent of pretending to be monkeys in a maize field.

These are the same people who not too long ago were insulting the PF leadership and calling them corrupt. Today they are touring the company with dog breeders, prostitutes and tenderpreneurs? Today they find them innocent and allow them to lead UPND?
What unity can this Kaponya (HH) talk about today? He uses Mapatizya formula with his Hackson Sejane to maim innocents.

These people are mercenaries who change colours and words to suit themselves. Kaponya (HH) is a useless impotent prick. Screw you

    Political chameleons

    • Your Kaponya just talks like he is masterbating. He contradicts himself all the time. You think (HH) will let Eastern Province produce peanut butter when he’s busy importing it from South African boers?

Are you not the same types who were praising this Kaponya for being a mega businessman who owns South African shopping malls in Zambia, hotels and ranches? He makes money from South African peanut butter so you can’t see that he’s lying to you gullible pillock?

There’s only one “Mr Walk The Talk” and that’s Edgar Lungu. We in PF are very practical.
Next 5 years, PF is focusing on Agriculture so tell your Kaponya and his fat Malya Bwamba to stop copying from our manifesto.

    • Peanut butter = chiphonde is no big deal. It’s already being made in zambia…….hh Azalila mu chi tonga

    • If peanut butter is produced in zambia why are we selling imported peanut butter in our shops ? Yes we know it imported because of HH.

    • That is what UPND are saying, we are the richest country and we make everything for our domestic needs yet we are one of the poorest and import everything.

There is no leadership at this time.
Simple things like making sure our shops sell zambian peanut butter will go a long way in addressing employment, saving forex.

But the PF will blame HH for not selling quality zambian peanut butter in our shops.

    • Kudos and Techilema give others chance to blog. Are the only ones with wisdom.Keep on dreaming this is not 2015 ,its 2016.Lungu is not an Easterner, but a Malawian ,he has no place he can call home in Eastern.Easterners are farmers and Lungu has never been a farmer he does not understand the importance of Farming to the national economy. This red revolution is real and un stopable.

  4. UPND has already won these elections the only challenge however is protect & secure people’s votes. Once that is achieved celebrations begins. Let’s be vigilant before & after the election. Fwebafwaya ukwikala bwino.

    • The women of Zambia will not vote for a man who abuses his wife like GBM (Gross Beater of Mothers). It is clear that HH belongs to the same wife beating club as GBM and Guy Scott. GBM has no respect for women who he treats like animals. He is unapologetic and unrepentant about beating his wife. This coward who should hold a position of power!

  5. Agreed with Kangwa. Please UPND ensure Lungu does not rig. The only way Lungu can win these elections is through violence and rigging. Lungu is coward. If he thinks he is popular then why all the violence and rigging schemes? Let him play a fair game and lose with dignity.

  6. Thank you my fellow Easterners for a peaceful and incidence free rally that was, according to LT, well attended. Some might add it was actually a massive rally:) Campaign periods are in fact periods when voters get entertained and bemused by the varying political players. Not a period to be moving around with angry faces accompanied by two rocks and a panga (just in case) as what keeps happening each time door to door campaigns are carried, especially in urban areas. A call for unity and tolerance must keep resounding and being seen in practice by all politicians. God bless our nation to get to vote in August despite countless provocations.

  7. There is no need to insult one another on this page. Let’s be positive in our comments…..insults shows that even our thinking is dull…and we can not vote wisely if we have such mentallity

    • @ dee

whilst I fully agree with you, please advise how to deal with inbred 1mbecility of the brainless skull?

  8. Agree with dee. Kudos and the like must be banned from LT. These hired Pf thugs make this platform unpleasant for discussions. Lungu is incompetent and everyone knows including these hired online clowns with no lives trying to defend a useless person

  9. The above pics send the message that Eastern Province is a strong hold for Edgar and PF, please see the response to the raising of UPND symbol.

  10. MPEZENI PARK IS VERY LARGE. AND THIS IS THE ONLY CROWD HH HAS MANAGED TO PULL? NO DOUBT MORE THAN HALF HERE ARE PF SUPPORTERS GOING BY THE SHOW OF UPND SYMBOL. SOME OF THE PEOPLE RAISING UPND SYMBOL ARE STILL DONT KUBEBA PF SYMPATHISERS.

  11. Nice try, reminds me of how Edgar Lungu pulled large crowds in Choma in 2015 but still lost the province. These people will vote their very own. You will taste the bitter taste of your own medicine. Easterners, please remember what they did to you in 2015, vote likewise in large numbers for Edgar C Lungu. He is your own. HH’s people vote for him regardless him not being the best candidate. Actually, HH has a lot of support because of Tonga breeding habits.

    • Kudos
The only way lungu can win is by violence, inciting tribal hatred and rigging.

Discussing solutions to our problems is not something PF does.

  12. The HH Freedom train is moving towards victory on 11th August 2016. As an Easterner I urge fellow Easterners to join in this march towards freedom. Lets not listen to divisive politics by Lungu and RB. Wako niwako politics will not take us anywhere. One Zambia One Nation. Down with Lungu and his Panga Family and Forward with Team HH and UPND.

  13. Basebenza, thats how shallow minded you tu pf are. Kindly factor in the exchange rates for the years in question and see in kwacha value how much reduction it represents. Grade two chap, dont worry, we shall improve ed

  14. @4.1 Spaka like lilo, no need to import peanut butter? Thats a question from reception class. Zambia already produces peanut butter under various brands, the most prominent is Rivonia. I buy it all the time, maybe people like you and HH only buy foreign brands like “Yum Yum” which is produced by Food Corp of South Africa. In a misplaced show of being “sophisticated” you and HH deliberately buy foreign peanut and pretend you have never seen Rivonia peanut butter in Shop rite and Spar. The issue here is not making the peanut butter but the market. Learn to buy Zambian like me and many other Zambian patriots, then you and HH will truly contribute to promoting groundnuts that my cousins in eastern produce.

    • @Terrible,
You seem to acknowledge there is issue , we expect our next government to improve our agri sector and one solution is to encourage Zambian people to buy local products.

      Its theme worth discussion.

UPND at least have named it as part of their campaign program which they need to fulfill and we can hold them accountable. What is PF offering to against UPND to improve agriculture sector?

  15. @4.1 Spaka like lilo, you and HH may also wish to.know that Zambia also produces a large amount of processed from Zambian honey. It is a very good and very popular product among both Zambians and foreigners. It is readily found in all supermarkets and hotels and comes in a variety of brands like Zambezi Honey, It’s Wild by COMACO, and many others. I thought that I should give you and HH a hint just to save you embarrassment when you go to northwestern province and talk ignorantly about things that are already being done in Zambia, like HHs embarrassing peanut butter ignorance.

  16. Then let me educate you and HH about the existence of COMESA, no Sir I dont mean the market in Lusaka. I am talking about the regional body Common Market for East and Southern Africa which promotes regional trade among and Southern and East African countries. This means that all products of this region are expected to have free access anywhere in the region. This leads to competition, so Zambia must compete on quality and price. This means that Zambia must take steps to make its products competitive. One of the ways of doing this is to make easier for our agricultural products to get to markets and processing plants. Wjat am talking about Sir? Roads. That is what the PF government has done, deliver good roads which make it shorter and cheaper to get produce to markets. With good roads…

    • My brother
It is easier to teach a Grade 1 pupil 1+1 than teaching HH economics.
A child is eager to learn but HH knows everything
HH doesn’t know that there is Comesa
HH doesn’t know that there is Sadc but as I have said before, HH pretends to know everything
Ababemba batila: Munshebwa aile na mafi kubapongoshi
      HH ni Munshebwa.

    • This is what UPND are asking, what is the use of COMESA and SADC when we do not manufacture anything and we only have shopping malls ?

    • terrible don’t sound like you know it all,Yes zambia is manufacturing some agric products but the question is what are the quantities and variate .Why are we do we have so many agric products from south if we are doing fine? The truth is we are still in our infancy we need to do more. There are very few zambians involved in Agric processing even the few brands such as Zambezi honey are manufactured by foreigners. So HH has a point. We need mas production to reduce inflation and increase foreign exchange.

  17. With good roads the product gets to markets more fresh and guranteed to reach the markets without unnecessary breakdowns on the way.
In short Sir, please advise HH that his ten point plan cannot work without a base, without basic infrastructure like roads. HH should be educated that groundnuts dont just happen, there is a process of delivering seeds, tilling the land, planting, harvesting and selling. Selling is of critical important because all earlier efforts to produce the groundnus will go waste if you cant find a market, or it is not accessible. I just cant imagine how a person who aspires to rule Zambians and claims to be an economist cannot understand simple factors of economics. Without acknowledging PF infrastructure developments, HHs 10 point plan sounds like trying to water…

  18. I just cant imagine how a person who aspires to rule Zambians and claims to be an economist cannot understand simple factors of economics. Without acknowledging PF infrastructure developments, HHs 10 point plan sounds like trying to water the leaves of a tree instead of the roots and expecting the tree to grow and bear fruits for him.

  19. Terrible
Those roads you are dancing about have been among the most expensive in the world and PF have pocketed the difference.
Where are the investor’s you were singing will come ? Why is the kwacha still sliding , why is inflation increasing ?
That peanut butter made in zambia still can not compete in quality and production costs with imported ones while PF have been in power for 5 years. After 5 years of PF we still import everything.
That honey you talk about is banned in south Africa and europe while we sell their honey in our shops.

  20. Even hoes and other digging implements are imported from SA.
All safety clothing which workers are forced to wear come from south Africa courtesy of contracts held by corrupt PF ministers and their relatives including uniforms.

  21. Have you ever heard this PF GRZ championing a buy zambian campain among our citizens ? I don’t think so, no bribes to be made there and they the ministers hold most the contracts for the stuff we import.

PF have been abysmal at championing local manufacturing while proudly singing every free trade agreement as terrible is boasting knowing full well we don’t export anything.

  22. Hahahaha eyaa those people they did not go to endorse for HH , jst as it has explain itself from the picture people just went there to see who HH is , the pig GBM and kamwefu banda carnicious .they did not even showed the forward symbol for the party when the high ranked man was doing it ,jst few were raising hands as they wanted to answer a qns in a class . These are the some of facts you need to analys you, you UPND pompwes.

    • So you PF in your dullness only think people can only embrace PF in your thick skulls. Dont you think people change their minds.

  23. Dont speak on there behalf, lets wait for votes.Zambians are wise to tell who is telling the truth and who has the capacity develop this country.Dont behave like coward men who go to a woman and start saying your man is womanizer instead of only throwing a manifesto, clever women who chase you away.yes he is a womaniZer so what?HH is genuine and his 10 point plan is easy to explain.I was at the rally many people were saying tiza mupasa vote mutonga uyu tasauka kuno kumawa ulimi wa yenda pansi.

  24. PF should be telling us how they are going to address inflation, kwacha depreciation, job losses, load shedding instead of concentrating on hiring musicians and playing a sontapo slogan. This time we will not be swayed by slogans like donchi kubeba, forward, sontapo, Edgar Lungu batupela ect. This is nonsense. We want messages that will address the problems we are going through. As for music we will go and dance in our homes.

  25. Exodus 31:15

‘For six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there is a Sabbath of complete rest, holy to the LORD; whoever does any work such as engaging in political campaigns on the Sabbath day shall surely be put to death or “luck shall not reign in their camp”.

  26. HH the Shonongo has no proper plan for this country. Everything he is promising Zambians has been uplifted from the PF Manifesto. For example, at a rally in Chama he told the crowd that the PF had failed to complete roads. Which roads, if I may ask? He further wet on to say that he will complete the roads if elected president. This is cheap hypocrisy! All along, he and his cohorts have been saying, “people cannot it roads”. In other words, according to him it is possible to develop a country without the requisite infrastructures, such as roads, bridges, rail lines etc. I wonder what kind of Economist he is. No wonder he looted the country’s resources during the infamous privatization programme.

  27. The upnd rally in Eastern really reflects that Edgar is not a violent person. If it was Pf holding a rally in southern province we could just be seeing a number of people being beaten. Anyways judge for yourself whose violet. One of the fdd candidate’s hand has been broken by the so called peace full people. Stop cheating yourselves we know that violence runs in the blood of Upnd leaders.
