The opposition FDD says it’s illegal for the ECZ to suspend election campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala as the Electoral Code of Conduct strictly stipulates that political parties which engage in electoral fraud such as political violence must be penalised.
FDD party Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said the decision by the Electoral Commission of Zambia to suspend election campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala is illegal and totally unacceptable.

“The Law clearly stipulates that individual candidates/parties that abrogate the Electoral Code of Conduct by engaging in electoral fraud such as political violence must be penalised. Therefore it is wrong for ECZ to sanction us as the victims of violence by putting up a blanket suspension on campaigns.
Instead of inconveniencing innocent candidates/parties, ECZ must sanction the individual candidates/parties that are engaging themselves in electoral violence. You cannot punish innocent people for the wrongs of others. This is a grave miscarriage of justice.
“Furthermore, Article 28(2) of the Electoral Process Act No.35 of 2016 which ECZ has cited as a legal basis for suspending campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala does not give ECZ any powers to suspend political campaigns. So what ECZ has done is illegal and we as FDD will seek legal redress,” he said.
He accused ECZ of not serving the interest of the general public.
“It is abundantly evident that ECZ is no longer serving the interest of the general public but those of the Ruling Party.
ECZ is acting as an appendage of the Ruling Party. Even in Dubai, ECZ has delayed the printing of the ballot papers to wait for one Ngosa Simbyakula to arrive. How can a national process come to a stand-still just because of one cadre?” he wondered.
The party to be suspended in UPND. This party is violent as demonstrated in their Mapatizya formula. Zambians must see through the rotten heads of the leaders of this party who only want to use innocent youths to get to power.

ECZ, a big inefficient coward. I am non partisan but the two parties involved in violence are PF and UPND. So why not penalise the culprits. We have said it time and again that ECZ commissioners should never be appointed by a President. This is a straight forward issue, punish the culprits. I don’t even know why dunder heads are insulting each other on this blog over a very straight forward issue.
Printing is still going on even without the said minister. As for the suspension of holding rallies in lusaka its ok ms Nawakwi because someone may beat you and the police can be blamed. My sister start with other provinces and come to lusaka later. Let peace prevail in lusaka first.
Mr Mwanza is legally correct. The problem is that the Lungu regime does not believe or respect the Rule of Law and most important does not obey Court Orders. This is a regime which believes in lawlessness,violence and rigging of elections. The retention of illegal Ministers by Lungu confirms that he does not respect his oath of the Zambian Constitution.ECZ, ZRP,ZRA,ZAF etc are state institutions being used to rig these elections by ECL. The suspension of campaigns in Lusaka and Namwala is meant to benefit Lungu at the expense of HH.
