Speaking on arrival at Mfuwe international airport the former Republican President said he was in the province to ensure that President Lungu wins the forth coming elections as well as garner a hundred percent vote turnout in the province. He said he is in the province as a former MMD leader to ensure MMD Parliamentary and council candidates wherever they have stood are elected.
Mr Banda said no body can beat Edgar Lungu in the elections if the two parties remain united and work together.
He said MMD and PF were the two most powerful parties in the country hence the only way to win the elections was to work together and ignore the detractors who have continued to undermine the alliance due to selfish interests.
He said if some of the leaders in the PF were not selfish the problems being faced by the some PF candidates across the country would have been avoided. This alliance is clear, we have to ensure our President Edgar Lungu who is a good leader wins in the first round, and so our leaders in MMD and PF must be seen together even as they compete at Parliamentary and council level.
He called on Eastern Province voters to turn out in numbers and ensure that they vote for President Lungu as opposed to assuming that he has already won because that mentality made him lose the elections in 2011 as less than 50% of the registered voters in the province voted.
He also called on voters to vote for MMD Candidates so as to ensure that MMD remains strong in the province, and because MMD was the strongest party in the province without a doubt.
Meanwhile Felix Mutati the MMD leader said the party was banking on the province to produce the most MPs for the party.
He said MMD will become pretenders if they do not produce any MPs in the forthcoming elections as the party’s strength is in the number of MPs and local government officials.
He said the party had brought in RB whom he described as “our gun” to end the game in the province because all of us know that where the former President passes victory is assured.
He said from the reception at the airport it was clear that PF presidential candidate would white wash the opposition and MMD candidates will win enough seats.
He also emphasised the need for people to go and vote because President Lungu will only win when they all vote.
The high profile campaign delegation was received at the airport by MMD National Secretary Mr Raphael Nakacinda, Chairperson for International Relations Ambassador Joyce Musenge, Chairperson for Agriculture Mr Chilufya Chishala, Chairperson for Elections Hon. Gaston Sichilima who have been in the province as as advance party campaigning for Edgar Lungu and their MMD candidates across the province.
