HH blames PF’s “Chipantepante” approach for loss of Jobs and Investment in the Mining Sector

United Party for national Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has accused the Patriotic Front (PF) Government letting down the mining communities.

In a press statement released after he held rallies in across the Copperbelt in Chililabombwe, Chingola and Luanshya, the UPND leader said that the communities have been let down by what he described as the visionless Lungu’s Government.

Mr Hichilema said that Zambia needed a mining sector that delivered for the people, but the PF’s chipantepante approach to mining policy had cost the country thousands in jobs and millions in lost investment.

“The potential for growth of our mining sector is still there. With a stable policy environment we could produce 1.5 million tonnes each year, not less than 750,000, ” he said.

The UPND leader stopped short of promising to increase tax for mining firms, but said that the country need to fix the tax collection from the existing amount that is owed.

“The UPND will fix it. First off we will fix tax collection, ” he said before asking, “What use is increasing the level of tax if we are not properly collecting the existing amount owed?”

Mr Hichilema said that UPND will also ensure a tax regime that is sensitive to fluctuations in prices, so that when prices are low we protect jobs and when prices are high our revenues increase.

Furthermore, the UPND said that his party will secure benefits beyond revenues that are too often neglected, such as business for local companies as supplier contracts or in value-addition industries.

The UPND leader concluded by urging people to vote for him and UPND for a government that is committed to transparency and has the capacity to negotiate a good deal with investors rather than vote President Lungu and PF for more instability, uncertainty and job losses in the mining sector.

All campaign time artillery down to silence effective 18:00HRS on 10th August, 2016, let the loser support the winner its called democracy period. • @Nostradamus
Please send me a bemba english dictionary,, am hearing a lot of bombastic words,, like kunkubinti, chipantepante,,,

    • The same language HH and UPND was insulting is now being used with love by the same haters of the Bemba language and its people. HH and UPND should think before they insult other people just because they are not like HH or them. You still need them at some point, like in these elections. many have not forgotten the insults HH and his people hauled at the Bembas. Yes, they have GBM but that does not change the fact that some people have a bone to chew with HH and UPND.

    • @ndobo, especially Kachema Musuma HH is amazing how he is holding rallies in Bemba. Bo Ma Inonge can’t even speak the easiest Tonga basaa. Ndali kumyambila mwabo ati mwa mukolo mwa mukolo ….

    • There you go, it all about Tonga for you guys. The number at rallies can be deceiving, it is what people think about a candidate that matters. HH has portrayed himself as a selfish individual, no respect for others, full of vulgar language, etc, and we have heard and seem who is a better candidate. ECL has proved to better than HH and GBM combined.

So it is about bring Zambian and being a Tonga!!!!

    • If Zambians make a mistake of voting Lungu, they will experience unbearable hardships. IMF will impose hard conditions on Zambia for them (IMF) offer any financial help.

    • The problem is that UPND is entrenched in tribalism and HH is a tribal leader. Therefore, it is time to dununa HH and UPND by putting their machinery into reverse gear. UPND has not reformed from tribal politics and will be punished for dividing Zambia. HH will again be given a message, NOO to tribalism and hatred! We are more than ready to go and vote for our ECL and PF on 11. Oh, I cannot wait mweeeeee!

  1. impressive crowd, which party wins in rerun things won’t be easy to fix,but to think that ecl will change his economic approach is just being unrealistic and will worsen the sufferings of the majority of our citizen. All politicians may be the same, its worthy trying changing as what we have to fear is not these politicians but FEAR ITSELF.

    • Shimaine, I am shocked that you have the evidence that ECL is Malawian and have not done anything about. This makes think that the entire UPND and its supporters are very dull people to be beaten under belt on this one. Because you have failed to prove your allegations, I take it as your usual hallucination. However, do not try to involve other tribes into your tribal fart. There is no any other political party in Zambia, currently, with a tribal tag apart from UPND and its leader HH. UPND openly says that only a Tonga should lead it. How do you then turn and point at others. Tribalism is your own fart, enjoy the smell, but we are opening the Zambian windows so that this UPND tribal fart will forever leave our country. Oh how we detest this fart called UPND and HH. We have a disinfectant,…

  2. The USA government has revealed that if HH wins it will ask the IMF to release the $1billion dolars because it can trust him,but if he loses it will ask the IMF not to release the money maybe till the end of 2017,because it does not trust lungu. The truth is Zambia may have 3yrs of wage freeze and employement freez should Lungu win.I urge all civil servant and youths from colleges and University to turn up and cast vote for HH or else you are doomed.

    • Some of us even if we support UPND to win , we are looking enviously at the prospects should lungu win.

Should lungu and PF win There will be untold hardships and suffering and that is the time many in diaspora will afford plots as many people will be selling to make ends meet.

      Sounds selfish but true.

    • If Zambians make a mistake of voting Lungu, they will experience unbearable hardships. IMF will impose hard conditions on Zambia for them (IMF) offer any financial help..

  3. This crowed did not go to see free music like at lungus rallies the crowed went to hear what HH has to offer.

If I were a PF looter or a PF cader kaponya planted in one of our abroad missions I would be worried, I would be very worried.

    • They are NOT only worried but packing because of the Tsunami coming on Thursday this week!
Others are consulting foreign Govts where they are based on the procedures for seeking Asylum!

    • Yes Kudos and Vision2020 listen to Spaka like lilo. Looted money is sweet but unjustified wealth is punishable get ready to go back to Zambia

  4. Chililabombwe is my town.i grow up there.Twafwane ground is the smallest in town.hh failed to go the biggest ground-Lubengele where ECL had a mammoth rally on tuesday(a working day) around 10hrs.this is a sunday.if PF had a rally on a sunday in chililabombwe, only konkola stadium could have accommodated all PF lovers in there.plus PF did well by adopting Hon.Richard Musukwa-a well known Chililabombwe man!!he is well known there.WAIT FOR RESULTS ON FRIDAY FROM ALL THESE CB TOWNS AND YOU WILL BE SHOCKED BY THE RESULTS IN FAVOUR OF PF!!!PF IS RETAINING ALL URBAN SEATS THERE-MARK MY WORDS!!

    • @eddy,in your dreams,pf will lose a lot of seats in cb and nationally,as for rallies a lot of people fear to attend upnd rallies becoz of pf thugs,so rallies don’t translate into actual votes.if we had no pf thugs we can be shocked by the results but lets wait and see how the rerun will unfold.

    • @eddy ABENA EDDY THIS TOO MUCH. HOWMANY HOMETOWNS DO YOU HAVE. IN THE LAST 11 MONTHS YOU HAVE CLAIMED TO BE FROM 8 DIFFERENT TOWNS. ABENA EDDY PLEASE BE EASY. WE KNOW THIS IS POLITICS BUT MWE-MFUMU YA CHILAMO AMA HOMETOWN. LOL

  5. HH’s last crowds as a political leader amidst fears he will be retired come 8/11: He can’t just stop telling lies.
    ===========?================
    Ulabeja musankwa, Twadununa pa Thursday.
The embattled opposition leader hanging on the balance as he faces an obvious heavy whitewash in the run up to the 8/11 polls. Tick tick tick! False promises, false leader. Peasant farmer Nsonta epowabomba! Otherwise, sela babombe.
    Not a chance! Try 2026!

  6. Mr U5….how some people mislead themselves!……kikikikiki.
Ati mining tax…this boy does he read? Doesn’t he know that the Government has already introduced a variable tax?
And he has stopped talking about Anglo American?

    • @8 Terrible, indeed!! HH was in the forefront of fighting tax increases in Jan’15 Presidential election despite all MPs voting for that. He got campaign money from mining houses and sided with them when they threatened to close mines. Govt.was forced to retract the otherwise beneficial taxes for Zambia due to HH and other unpatriotic Zambians. A variable royalty tax which slides according to world copper prices has already been introduced in consultation with mines,he is still singing the old song! At least PF has shown their political will to collect more revenue from the mines so we cant trust a flip-flopper in mining issues. Everything he has said here is in simple generalities without clearly explaining how? Can mines employ more people and produce more when copper prices are low and…

    • …cont’d ..copper prices are low and you plan to tax them more?? Very illogical! Mopani has already started investing $1.2bn into 3 shafts while Kansanshi just last week announced the best performance in output since 2014 mainly due to new tax regime and availability of electricity all these are on the trajectory to meet the projected output of 1million tonnes in the coming few years! We would wish to stay neutral but when some one lies too much you can be forced to respond. This guy HH is a fraud and I have not seen anything logical in his messages because things don’t tally!

  7. once i must admit the crowd i saw today shocked me. No music no free beer, no free transport, no cash but they came in nos. I say to my fellow PF cadres this elections will not be easy. ECL has failed he only talks for 30 mins just threating zambians, HH, etc. Let

    • Only waiting for Thursday to vote for my Party, PF. The time of reckoning is now. No matter what HH says, no matter the insults from his worshipers, no matter how many women GBM batters, the die is cast.

Let us show this HH that tribalism and insults does not win elections! VOTE FOR PF VOTE FOR ECL!

  8. its shameful to address small crowds on the copperbelt especially when elections are only 72hours away…… these are effects of being tribal from the beginning…… chabipa sana ba HH

  9. HOP YOU WILL STILL CONTINUE AFTER 11TH PANTU OTHERS WILL CRY.
HONESTLY HH CAN TALK ABOUT LOOSING JOBS ON THE COPPERBELT?
ALEKWATA INSONI BUKALA BWAKWE.THE MISERY HE HAS CAUSED TO THE PIPO OF THE CB?
KWENA CIPUBA SANA HH.WAIT WAT WILL HAPEN AFTER 11.
EFYO BAYA BA HH.HH WILL BE HISTORY.

  10. Whatever crowd HH bused to the rally venue, CB can’t vote for HH and UPND. Urban CB’s 18 constituencies will vote for ECL and the PF. Mark my words.

  11. @Thorn in the Flesh
You have so much time to play children’s games on a forum. No wonder PF supporters cannot articulate on important matters. What you don’t realize of fail to realize is those infrastructure development you talk about will come to a halt after a week of PF coming back in power. They are so broke so how are they going to achieve any further development? They have borrowed beyond capacity and will continue to borrow while the terms and interest will be too high to pay back that in the case of extreme measures no one will help or bail us out. What we need is a government that will be self reliant and provide jobs for its people so they contribute towards the economy.

    • Always Inkongole, ati self-reliantiii, you are big jokers. How caan you be so cheated that that you can do withou borrowing? Which economics books does HH and yourselves read. No wonder HH was a chikopo kopela at UNZA. Even big economies borrow. The US owes countries like China big monies. Do you know it is better at times to keep your reserve intact. PF is doing the right thing. You people who love this country and are willing to borrow to improve our livelihood than HH will want remove all the cash from the economy and only allow the rich and foreigner access it.

HH says there be no road, hospitals, schools etc constructed under his leadership, why should I vote for such a President who will bring things to a stand still? Can’t Never!!! WE ARE VOTING FOR A PROGRESSIVE PARTY, PF AND…

    • Ulabeja iwe musankwa just like your uncle HH.
Otwikite otwikite otwikite. It is impossible for HH to win this election mwana! Kindly pay attention:
      1) HH and cliques sold the mines and dubiously benefited from the proceeds with impunity. He cannot turn around and champion their cause.
      2) Uyu musankwa HH can’t appreciate that commody economies worldwide have faced depression.
      3) HH is violent and hijacked UPND.
4)HH is so bitter, tribal, unpatriotic and lawless

  12. THE FINAL RALIES FOR BOTH PARTIES WERE HELD IN LUSAKA.
PF WAS IN WOODLAND STADIAM WHILE OUR LOOSERS WERE IN MANDEVU
DID YOU SEE THE CROWD IN MANDEVU COMPARED TO OUR RALLY IN WOODLANDS?
UPND PULLED ALOT OF PIPO THRE BUT WHAT SURPRISED ME ARE THE RESULTS.
THEY GOT LESS THAN 10,000 WHILE PF HAD 28000.
SO DONT BE MISLED BY THE CROWD CAN NOT WIN IN LUSAKA AND COPPERBELT BELIEVE U ME.
REASON IS SIMPLE, THERE MORE BEMBAS AND NGONISE THAN TONGAS

  13. I am impressed with the crowds last year people voted for Lungu thinking will follow what sata wanted but he has provoved to be a wrong person to be entrusted with power,Mark my words this time Lungu will have it hard. You can not ignore four provinces of North Western,Southern,Central and southern and then think they will vote for you without reaching out to them and copper belt just visiting districts not constituencies.

    • You will be shocked that many people still trust ECL and have not seen anything wrong but good from him. many people know that HH and UPND is a tribal party and they are criticsing ECL and PF out of hatred and supporting HH just because he is Tonga by his tribesmate. Mind you not everyone attending those rallies is a voter, is a supporter of HH. many are just tambas or inquisitive people who just want some sort of entertainment. You will be very disappointed by the really results. Number of rally attendance does not reflect into vote numbers all the time.

ECL is winning and HH is already feeling and talking like desperate loser. Elections are not won by insults nor vulgar language.

  14. HH is an economist but seems does not know how job losses came into being in our country and it is not PF.
We have been with this problem from way back even during MMD, therefore he must not fool the people around.
The time when he took part in privatazation exercise by undervalueing the companies and assets the devil where did he think the jobs would come from?, heaven ahh.
Every country is being dictated by the forces of world economy crisis and Zambia is not special. There is no single country in the world that can even boast of a single digit unemployment level, it is only being fools and easily distracted by cheap politics even were one knows the truth.
The investors have always been with money and only waiting for an opportunity to clinch a deal from sleeping government like…

  15. The news reporter and photographer waba Lusaka Times who I believe also has the mentality yaba ANC abakale. The truth of the matter is that same photos of places captured have been used at different places at HH ralley in Chingola by so doing confusing people that the crowd was large.
We also know how to play around with graphics and able to interprete the features and it is not that everybody is a fool.

  16. PF is only banking on rigging. They have nothing to offer, if Pf will win Zambia will become like Zimbabwe vote wisely on 11/08/16

  17. The visioneless Pa maFi party is seeing red and an ignomious cancellation of contract by Zambian voters just like Jose Mourinho’s bitter end at Chelsea.

    • Mzambia wa Zamani, you and you otjer UPND fellows did the same in any other elections where you won before voting. UPND has always behaved like lunatics during every election period and after voting UPND has always declared themselves winners. But all the time you have come out empty handed. It is not easy to beat a ruling party in a peaceful environment we are in

Get ready for another disappointment. remember there is a 50+1 waiting for HH. This is not easy to attain for him.

    • You forget that you have a gaping ass hole behind you but. Where does your mafi come from, it not from your mouth I hope!

  18. @Asigai
The question you imposed about which economic books I read is fair. My professor was Colin Kovacs from Queens University. The book I have come to enjoy from his teaching is Exploring Microeconomics, 3th edition by Nelson, other books are macroeconomics, I urge you to buy one, such an interesting read.

Your comments about China. Some investors claim the Chinese government actually owes the US money on bonds that China issued before WWII. A lot of people thought those bonds were worthless but that may not be the case as investors claim those bonds can be worth billions or trillions of dollars because many are backed by gold but China defaulted on all of these bonds after Japan invaded China in 1937.

Now with America’s debt to China topping a trillion dollars, a group of US…

    • Always Inkongole, this does begs the question. Do your books say that a country cannot borrow to finance its home project? Or is it possible for a developing countries like Zambia to meet all its developmental programmes without external finance. How it is done does not eliminate its necessity. What Iam saying is that we should not just condemn for the sake of it or just because we hate any individual, but we can positively criticise and at the same time be reasonable enough to give credit where it is due, even from people we do not like.
The issues about China and US, no matter the economic jargon used, all I know i that the US owes and continues to borrow. HH and UPND have had to borrow to finance their campaigns either locally or internationally. HH’s and GBM companies have used…

  19. @Asigai
Now with America’s debt to China topping a trillion dollars, a group of US investors is demanding China pay up. This is a very legal and complex foreign policy controversy that has been dragging on for years. When China issued the bonds, it said that they would be honoured by a successor government practice followed by many countries.

The US bond holders claim the souring price of gold plus the compound interest in penalties, their bonds today could be worth up to 3.2 trillion dollars. They also claim the US government holds Chinese bonds that could be used to cancel US debt to China. Among other defenses China has successfully argued that it, like the US, has sovereign immunity from many private claims in many countries.

But in 1987, China settled similar claims with…

  20. But in 1987, China settled similar claims with British bond holders, when China wanted to issue new bonds in @Asigai
British financial markets, though the payments for these settlements were small. The US bond holders howled and have been pushing US administrations ever since to force China into settlement talks but have gotten nowhere. They say that the Obama, Bush 43, and other administrations have ducked this fight to avoid upsetting Beijing, as the US seeks Chinese support on trade and international security matters.

We cannot compete nor compare ourselves to these two giants. What we need to concentrate on are three key things and that is job creation through manufacturing, service industry and natural resources. But we cannot do that if we lack a skilled labour force. We have…

  21. @Asigai
We have too many unemployed people while ministers are getting rich and corruption is beyond high levels. We need to cut this from below the knees if we are to rebuild this nation and compete on the global market. After all, we live in a globalized world!

    • A developing country, with high return to domestic capital, investment can be financed more cheaply by borrowing from abroad than out of domestic saving alone. Investors in richer countries can earn a higher return on their saving by investing in the emerging market than they could domestically. Everyone benefits from the opportunity – to smooth disturbances – and to diversify away risks. Letting foreign financial institutions into the country improves the efficiency of domestic financial markets. It subjects over-regulated & inefficient domestic institutions – to the harsh discipline of competition and – to the demonstration effect of examples to emulate. Governments face the discipline of the international capital markets in the event they make policy mistakes. Welfare gains from open…

    • Well, ask that question to HH and GBM. They are so rich but they still want to get employed by the Zambian people. Are they not trying to do what you accusing the government of doing? Dont you think ill paying civil servants will increase corruption? I have heard HH and GBM saying they will increase salaries, have you challenged them as well. I would suggest that you do not vote for them HH and GBM because they are planning to do what you are against. I rest my case, for now!

  22. Does anybody know why ECL is heavily backed by his wife, the first lady yet we do not see the same on the opposite side for both presidential candidate and running mate?

    • HH is cheating on his wife with Maureen and others, so his wife is discouraged. GBM is battering his wife, you do not expect her to support him. If ECL is having a good relationship with his wife, why can’t she support him. She is his wife. Some leaders have their wives as servants or mere concubines, ECL has a partner. She is a doing a very good job indeed.

    • Because Esther is fighting maintain her newly acquired wealth whereas Mutinta already enjoys a wealthy lifestyle

    • Ba Kaluwa – When I asked that question I was expecting a mature response like that from Asigai, not your nonsense. State House is very serious business and a cordial relationship between the President and the First Lady is very important.

    • Mutinta obviously has a life to lead. You expect her to the criss crossing the country? She needs to learn skills to survive on her own. Tell me something , how many of the presidential candidates are campaigning with their spouses?

  23. 2016 elections are surely beyond hh to reach!!we live in zambia and hear it from us!!on the ground like here in Lsk and Cb,PF is very very strong!!wherever you go,if you talk to 10 people,9 or 8 will tell you that they love ECL and will vote for PF because it has delivered!!the projects late Sata initiated have made 2016 elections easy for PF!!then tribal politics are at play in zambia today.more than 90% bemba speakers and those from the east are supporting ECL and PF while more than 90% bantustans too are pro upnd!!BUT SINCE BEMBA SPEAKERS AND EASTERNERS ARE THE MAJORITY IN ZAMBIA,PF IS ON A SOLID BASE TO WIN IN 2016!!

  24. Lolo Tulemudununa nakabili kalusa pa thusday.Tonga party tekwesha.UPND is a tribal party full of hatred against other tribes especially to bembas. They are beating bembas in southern provinc coz of UPND.please let us go in numbers and retire this tribal leader. He came thru politics thru tribalism and he thinks it’s time for tongas to rule. Most Tongas have become tribal bcoz of UPND.HH sold mines and how can he talk about unemployement after killing our parents ku Kopala.kalusa HH tule Dununa

  25. The bantustan party’s leader (HH) is full of lies and encroached with hatred towards the majority of Zambians. It’s time we advise our relatives to turn up in numbers and vote for ECL. ECL is a leader for all zambians and we are assured of not losing jobs when PF returns power. Yes, GBM has chance to win since they are using him by the cows.

We the Zambians do not smell tribalism from PF, but the problem is with the Tribal-Tonga-UPND.

  26. If Zambians make a mistake of voting Lungu, they will experience unbearable hardships. IMF will impose hard conditions on Zambia for them (IMF) to offer any financial help.

  27. govt responded to 2015 economic trends with tax adjustment and investment report had been good. sontapo, nafuti nafuti pf na edgar chagwa lungu 2016

  28. This U5, he has abandoned his ten-point plan already? No mention of it in his latest campaigns. Inconsistency ba U5, it shows that you do not think things through or you just to hoodwink the masses. Well, I gat news for you, the masses are actually much more intelligent than U5 or any other politician. Lungu knows this very well because he connects with the masses.

  29. I like loudist and asegai arguments and comments. They are not insulting but mainly stressing their parties support. That is good of you guys.. lets all learn from them.

    • Thanks my friend, just trying to educate our friends that you can differ politically and yet remain sane, civil and full of respect for our differences in opinion. However, at time they may force you to speak their language to make them understand!

  30. Analysts say the real value of the Kwacha is currently at $1=K25. Lungu is pumping reserves to buoy the Kwacha until after elections.

Letter to incoming presient Mr. HH:-
    1. Please make monetary controls a priority especially for the mining giants. Why should FQM or Mopani bank their monies in Switzerland or Cayman Islands? If they banked with Zanaco or any local bank, the banks will have so much money that they’ll be forced to lend it a low interest rates. The we can re-capitalize our farms, industries & small businesses.

    2. Strengthen our NRC to the level of South African ID. A child is given an ID number at birth & stays so until death. Just an entry into a computer brings out your credit history. Defaulters are blacklisted & good payers are rewarded with more credit.

  31. Shut up Sunny Chitombwa!. The only thing you know about mines is privatizing them at popcorn prices. You be sent to the political archives on August 11 2016. After that, there will be a power struggle in the party, which will culminate into PF Team B leaving UPND. Then, the remaining members of the UPND will be at pains to shrug-off the tribal tag attached to the party, but will shamelessly appoint a southerner again to take over from HH. By December 2016, UPND will become a party on paper only.

  32. why is upnd using old photos in their rallies? do they think all of us are as docile as the in’gombe illede tongas.

  33. Any phool knows that mining is not a reliable business. There’s nothing the government can if the owner of the mine says he’s closing his mine due to depressed copper price. Even under zccm there was pruning of jobs when the mines faced challenges. What more when mines are run by businessmen? HH should not commit himself to the impossible just for a vote.

  34. KK created a lot of jobs by way of parastatals which the MMD with HH & Valentine Chitalu sold cheaply. We also contributed as employees by pilfering which lead to the down fall of UBZ, ZNBC and others. It has nothing to do with pf.

  35. So bo hh knows that his supporters do not go to vote. Please don’t say the elections are going to be rigged.

  36. Not only mining. Job creation in tourism and the manufacturing sector. Tom Cruise right now is shooting a movie in Namibia and South Africa. Because our d.ull Minister of Tourism only thinks tourism is killing animals we have failed to capture the movie industry. Can you imagine Tom Cruise doing a jumping scene at the Victoria Falls? That would put us on the map for ever. Alas you have the Felix Chaila’s of this world whom we don’t even know what their job title or role is. They are here to stay just like the after shocks of Jarubu. Ati they came to stay. This is why we say PF has to go before they kill and destroy everything. What does Namibia have maybe the dessert? Victoria Falls is far much bigger than Niagara Falls yet we have failed miserably to promote a natural wonder. Yaba ba…
