SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe said it is regrettable and unfortunate that the country has continued to see distraction of both private and public property and the injuring of innocent people.
Mr Cheembe said political parties should allow relevant institutions to address grievances peacefully.
“The start of the end is with addressing any matters that various stakeholders may have had during the course of an electoral process. It is therefore important that we continue to maintain our calm and patience as a country as we allow our institutions to address peacefully the grievances that stakeholders may have in an electoral process.
“It is regrettable and unfortunate that we continue to see damage to private and public property and human beings being injured in continued post-election violence. It is true that anxieties are still high, but it is paramount that our political leaders continue to appeal for peace to all their supporters across the country,” he said.
He explained that the country belongs to all citizen regardless of the tribe they belong to and that no one should victimize anyone on account of their political affiliation.
“Zambia is for all tribes and citizens and no one person must take it upon themselves to victimize anyone on account of their political affiliation or on how they voted. It is important that anyone who is found chasing others from markets, bus stations, compounds or villages must be stopped as such individuals are miserably dividing our nation.
“Violence must stop and all our political leaders must continue to appeal to their supporters to stop the victimization of others. The new week deserves peace and tranquility as we allow the nation’s institutions to peacefully guide on the grievances,” he said.
