Chinese Nationals accused of Grabbing Farm and Residential Plots from Local People in Kalulushi

Share

A SCAM has been unearthed in Kalulushi where some Chinese nationals are grabbing farm and residential plots from the local people to establish their companies.

The scourge is said to be rife in the area along the Kalulushi/Sabiana road where a number of Chinese companies have since been established their companies on local people’s plots with impunity.

The move has strongly displeased Kalulushi District Commissioner Ken Siachisumo who has since issued an order to the local authority to halt any further constructions by the Chinese companies until the matter was resolved.

This came to light during the weekend when Mr Siachisumo visited the area, after receiving numerous complaints from the local people that some Chinese companies were grabbing pieces of land to establish their companies.

Mr Siachisumo who was in accompany of staff from the Kalulushi Municipal Council (KMC), Chibuluma Mines and district Government officials proved the complaints when he visited a named Chinese Company and found that a wall fence had already been erected on a piece of land that was occupied by some one certain family which has since been displaced.

He said he was not going to allow any investor grab a piece of land from locals just because the area needed investors.

He said although there was need to have investors in the area, rights of the local people also needed to be preserved by putting them into much consideration.

“I know that we need some investors in our district, but our people should not be displaced from their pieces of land which they have possessed for a long time without being compensated.

“I am there urging the Kalulushi Municipal Council to always be serious whenever they are dealing with land issues. No one should be allowed to start contracting any building at piece of land that is illegally obtained,”he said.

The DC stressed that in fact the land in question was authentically offered to the local people by the court since at one point it had some legal matters.

  1. Sometimes one would wonder if these employed people are educated, if not again one would wonder do they love or respect their own citizenship? Are they religious? Are they after money only or they were just born dumb? Am sorry, then the person who employed them is the dumbest

    • The PFs Edgar Lungu is setting up a good riddance to disregard the rule of law.
So don’t be surprised if the Chinese have started confiscating properties, they are learning from PF and Lungu to disrespect the rules.
Until Lungu hands in power to the speaker and that is when sanity can prevail. Mwapya, this is just intro.

    • We are yet to see more of lawlessness in this country in the next five years.Jameson Vodka Chakolwa rungu has showed us how to do it if you want to survive in this country…

    • When foreigners are doing stuff like this with impunity, it means they don’t respect the nation’s laws, it’s people, nor it’s leaders. This should be taken very seriously. Remember it will only get worse if you don’t quickly nip it in the bud. The companies should be sued by the locals, fined by the government, , sternly warned and then given other plots if they cooperate, or kicked out of the country if they don’t. What they’re doing is criminal. If you don’t enforce the laws, you’ll be setting a precedent for other foreign nationals to do the same. When the government doesn’t show any concern or respect for it’s own people, how do you expect foreigners to respect those poor and vulnerable people? Please make land laws clear, and vigorously enforce them. Otherwise more…

    • Continued)… Zambians will lose land in their own country. These foreigners know they cannot do what they’re doing in any other country but Zambia. They know they would be kicked out quickly for not following the stipulated laws. Land is the most important and valuable possession people can have, and if you begin to foolishly allow foreigners to take your land away with impunity, then you’ll end up with no country at all. Remember what defines a country is land. You lose land you don’t have a country. So please show some competence as a government. The ministry of land should make land regulations clear, create a website where people can check what the land laws in Zambia say, and also educate the people about their land rights using radio and television. Also have some pamphlets…

    • (Continued)… printed and distributed informing people about land issues. For instance, many Zambians abroad don’t even know how they can acquire land in Zambia, because the government doesn’t take time to clearly explain it anywhere. And so they fall prey to all kinds of scammers back home. Please be competent and stop acting like we’re still in 1890. This is 2016. Wake up! The other day, we saw some people who were building houses illegally in Lusaka, and we saw the Lusaka City Council demolishing the structures, because these Zambian builders had no proper papers. After the demolition, a few days later, the illegal builders were back again, rebuilding their structures at the same place, as the council officials watched. Honestly this is pure lawlessness, and should be taken very…

    • (Continued)… seriously by the government. Remember, foreigners see this and learn from lawless Zambians to disrespect the law. Set an example out of these lawless Zambians. Warn them once. If they repeat the offence, arrest them and have them prosecuted. Other lawless people, including foreigners, will learn from that. Again this cannot be over emphasized, and hopefully some government official will read this— we say the government needs to be serious and protect the vulnerable citizens from predatory lawless people, both foreign and domestic.

  2. Ichisungu. I got have a headache trying to make sense out of this topic. LT journalists you need a lot of imagination to understand what they write.

  3. Dumbest comments are the ones made out of context, where everything is seen from a single vision, namely politics.

Where’s PF or Lungu in this?

    • If you don’t see their role in this, then you’re too dumb to comment. They’re the ones currently in office, and as an EXECUTIVE branch of government, their duty is to ENFORCE the laws. So that’s why the blame should be laid at their doorstep. It has nothing to do with politics as you suggest.

  4. In one breath the President has too much powers in another Lungu this Lungu that? What do you want kanshi…this is simply case of corrupt council officials who should be brought to book and the Chinese involved deported as they do to us in China

  5. Poverty its all poverty that is making a Zambian sell his land, his pride, his dignity, his love, his money. President nga alondoloka teti twishibe nechilebasenda. Aba ati iye banjibila ama vote bambi nabo ati ni rigging its all poverty because if we had money we would not even care about what goes on in politics, we would be too busy looking after our assets and controlling the country.

  6. sikamo of chibuluma mines must be investigated over the same issue. dont beat around the bush because even mr siyachisomo is aware
