  1. It’s not 11.2 million Zambians but 11.2 million cellphones. It’s a total lie to mention this alarming figure knowing that these population statistics would include babies and most children under 10 years old going by the demographic breakdown of Zambia. The truth is that a number of people have more than one cellphone on different networks and these should not be counted as different individuals. Why can’t Zambians learn to use systems already in place? We all do register when buying phones and the data base should identify each person when they buy phones from more than one mobile telephone network provider. Third world mentality.

    • Cellphone in Zambia is measure of wealthy and success. The beautiful the phone, the richer you are. I just sold 5 phones at K20million old money cash. average of K4million each. I told you last week
Zambians take bath dress up, and carry 2 phones in hand, just to go out to show phones.
Go to church or funeral and count how many people mourn and how many taking pictures.
MPs even record own speech in parliament on cell phones.

    • @Badai, Good point, the statement is misleading considering that Zambian population including children is about million. LT reporting can be very funny, their Journalists / editors need proper training..

  2. This is probably 11.2 Million simcards sold. Some people have 3 simcards. Some phones are dual sim. But 11.2 illion zambians with phones anyone can tell thalats incorrect.

  3. Kiki dull chaps. If 11million people had phones it means even babies have phones. In Zambia due to poor mobile service most of us have 3 sims. Pf are dull

    • Ba nez it’s wrong for you to call pf dull for a statement made by another person. Secondly since you’re the only educated ZAMBIAN give us the breakdown of zambia by age group. Thirdly even if you have ten Sims, they will be under your name and nrc which means “one ” person owns a phone and not ten persons

  4. These statistics are clearly wrong. So these guys mean to say when I have 4 sim cards I count as 4 people. Take a life you goons this is completely wrong. Just ate cash – ati statistics – kwisa … BUFI!

    • So how has registering of SIM cards helped…if anything its helped the Network Providers know more about their clients

  5. Nothing to be proud of here…Yet the consumer are being ripped off left right and centre by Network Providers who charge hideous tarrrif rates but offer substandard services. ZICTA directors can not be bothered to look into it as they are probably have free phones and free packages from Network Providers.

  6. A quick look at our population shows people below 15years make 46.7% and those above are 53.3% of total population.

  7. I suppose it would have been better to research the number of mobile phones/sim cards, units sold and conclude that the market penetration in Zambia had grown, proving the Digital markets are very successful. In fact sales are so successful that Mobile Firms coax Zambian adults into buying multiple mobiles and to register on multiple Networks. Either way there is growth in that market and proves success! Let’s split some hairs…..
