Starvation hits Sikongo’s Lulangunyi area in Western Province

General News Starvation hits Sikongo’s Lulangunyi area in Western Province

Villagers in Lulangunyi area of Sikongo district in Western Province are surviving on small green mangoes owing to hunger that has stricken the area.

Chief Namulimbwa and Ward Councillor Kennedy Simbotwe have confirmed the development to ZANIS in Kalabo today.

Chief Namulimbwa lamented that his subjects were eating small raw mangoes and wild fruits commonly known as Mawawa in the local language.

The traditional ruler disclosed that pupils have since abandoned classes because of  hunger.

He said there was urgent need for government to intervene in the matter before lives are lost.

He added that the imminence of the rain season might force other people to eat poisonous mushrooms.

Chief Namulimbwa has since appealed to the Vice President‘s office to assist the hunger stricken villagers with relief food.

Lulangunyi area is situated 65 kilometres south of Sikongo boma.
