THE opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has failed to field a candidate in a local government by- elections in Lalafuta ward in Mufumbwe district.

Only the Patriotic Front (PF) and the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) managed to field candidates in Lalafuta local government by-election.

The development followed the opposition party’s failure to identify a credible and suitable candidate in the area to contest on its ticket.

And UPND Mufumbwe district chairperson Peter Ndonyo has confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in an interview, saying the party failed to find a suitable candidate to contest on its ticket as per Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) requirement.

He explained that the party could not manage to find a credible candidate because people refused to contest on the party’s ticket and those that showed interest had no qualifications to file in their nominations.
“Yes, we are not participating in the Lalafuta by-election because we have no candidate. We failed to find one,” Mr Ndonyo said.

Meanwhile, PF provincial mobilisation chairperson Herold Zholomi has mocked the opposition party for failing to find a candidate in the area.

Mr Zholomi said the failure by the party to find a candidate was a clear indication of the party’s dwindling popularity not only in Mufumbwe district but the entire province.

He said the party has been rejected by the people of Lalafuta ward by shunning to contest on its ticket because UPND had no clear agenda of development in the area.

“People were brainwashed in the August general election and they (people) have realised that the opposition party does not mean well for them. That is why people refused to contest on its ticket,’’ Mr Zholomi said.

He claimed people were not happy with the party following the appointment of Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo and his Monze Central counterpart Jack Mwiimbu as chief whip and leader of opposition in the house respectively.

“People in the province have realised that they are just being used by the opposition party to champion its selfish agenda.

The UPND is a party full of propaganda, fake, lies and unworkable promises,” he said.

    • This PF is a mother of all lies party-the strategy now is to be buying off all those who want to stand on the UPND ticket because they know who ever stands on HH’s party will scoop the seat in this party of the country-so the safest way for them is to buy them off all, I mean those who show an interest in standing-with this hunger in Zambia, 99% wouldn’t resist the stolen monies coming from these devils called PF.

  1. Good to know our brothers and sisters in Northwestern Province are beginning to realize that they are just being used by UPND judging from the manner UPND decided to pick Southern Province parliamentary members Garry Nkombo and Jack Mwiimbu for parliamentary chief whip and leader of opposition in parliament, respectively without bothering to pick someone else from Northwestern or Western Provinces.

  2. Hello party members when I say the direction we have taken is to fulfil ones man dreams only he goes to plot one or the party dies…we shall not give him that pleasure….UPND is our party after all when we were in the trenches others said they were not interested because they were simply business man…now we look good someone wants to kill it? Convention is the answer. Zambia Forward

  3. When is that election, how can we be having by elections when the HEAD of state is not yet leared by the courts, how in mufumbwe a by election what happened

  4. We are not interested in these bye lections which are not providing anything to the country.Better to stay away but North western is still strong hold for UPND as peopel in this area they vote on merit not on useless propaganda

  5. Why should we be interested in small elections? We want great HH to be President of this great nation Zambia end of story.

  6. It is stupid for the under five bloggers to blame PF on their failures. the fact is that a lot of people
have realized that they were taken for a ride. the appointment of jack mumbwe and gary nkombwa
as leader of the opposition in parliament, and chief whip respectively says it. these positions are paid by the state and the occupants receive a salary of a cabinet minister. would under five appoint a kalubale, Kaonde, mbunda, kachokwe, or lozi for such a position? its up to the rest of the voters who were duped by under five
to wake up. under five is a tribal cult, not a political party. there are only three political parties with a national
character in Zambia, and these are PF, MMD (MUTATI FACTION) AND UNIP. the rest are social or family or
    tribal cults.

  7. This is the beginning of the dismantling of the under five tribal cult in non-tonga areas. I can see Stephen masumba, and Austin liato being elected on the PF ticket when their win their peitions in court. so will the under five party loose all its three seats in ndola rural, kapiri mposhi and parts of central province where
Jonas shakafuswa will win. YOU CAN FOOL A FEW PEOPLE SOME TIME, BUT YOU CANNOT FOOL ALL
THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME. THE HOUR HAS COME FOR NON TONGA AREAS TO LIBERATE THEMSELVES
    FROM TONGA HEDGEMONY.

  8. Westerners and North-Westerners please let’s open our eyes and see that we are just being used to achieve one man’s dream. UPND decided to pick Southern Province parliamentary members Garry Nkombo and Jack Mwiimbu for parliamentary chief whip and leaders of opposition in parliament and these posts are heavily paid by the government. Are there no UPND MPs from Western and North-western provinces?
