SOUTHERN Province permanent secretary Sibanze Simuchoba has castigated Choma mayor Jevan Simoloka for staying away from the 2016 independence celebrations.

Mr Simuchoba made the remarks during yesterday celebrations held at the Choma Independence Stadium that it was a shame that the mayor decided to be unpatriotic by shunning the event.

“It’s remarkable that his worship the mayor of Choma Municipal Council has decided has decided to commit unpatriotic duty of absenting himself from the national event its really shame that are Zambians who take our peace for granted and play politics in circumstances not befitting the event,” he said .

Officiating during the event Southern province Minister Edify Hamukale said Zambia has continued to enjoy peace and unity since independence and called on the citizenry to observe this historic day with respect.

“It is in this regard that I call upon you all of you to observe this day with respect, dignity, joy and a great sense of national unity,” Dr Hamukale said.

He called on the youths who make up 60 percent of the country’s population to take advantage of the government’s interventions under the empowerment programmes.

He urged the youths to come up with bankable projects to help steer the developmental process of the respective districts, province and the country.

This year’s event was being commemorated under the theme ‘Working for greater Unity, hard work and patriotism.’

The event was proceeded by a match past by various government departments, schools, non-governmental organisations.

    • “It is in this regard that I call upon you all of you to observe this day with respect, dignity, joy and a great sense of national unity,”
You don’t need to go and march in the open stadium to observe this day with dignity, respect or whatever. I never went to the stadium but celebrated with family and friends at home. Now, WTF is this sh!t about??

  1. BaPuba baMayor kwena….let him vacate his office that independence produced. Bwafya ifimano fyabunangwa….mukatekela apatali

  2. BaPuba baMayor kwena….let him vacate his office that independence produced. Bwafya ifimano ofyabunangwa….mukatekela apatali bakoswe

  3. Why go to that joke of independence when conditions are now worse than colonial times

    • You don’t know about colonial time you have never been there you just read on the book, this time around you have power to choose between poverty and and a better life you can live wherevervyou want and the life that you want which was not there, lean to appreciate what you have

    • @ Wisdom

I was there and POA was applied strictly in accordance with the meaning of English language. As to “appreciating” what I have to day, how you want a free man to appreciate thuggery, corruption, nepotism and institutionalized plunder under the slogan of “unprecedented achievement”???

  4. Its incredible how dogmatic following can reduce an educated philosopher. His latest is to try and mislead people that old man Mbikusita is not recognized in the history books of Zambia. Please ask any pupil of social studies who the founder of the workers union is…shame…it is indeed often forgotten what it took to attain our independence…and now we are seeing this with our leadership, threats made by one bitter person who has lost us so many elections and now holding everyone to ransom. When we have new leadership there will be no cadres they will be our equal partners. They will not wear those ugly orange overalls we shall have them wear orange t-shirts at most; hold voter education and create viable economic activity within. We are different from PF… 2021 Zambia Forward….

  5. You are a great leader and i salute u your worship unlike those others out there who wants to make quick money through shortcuts of going to bed with the enemies of peace n economical development, there can never be meaningful independence when citizen still live in thatched house that looks like anthills besides many are in prison with no reason, once more I salute u as I urge the kamuchekas to emulate so that they don’t attend another sham of an event next time. Kamucheka if it were u, people u campaigned for busy dining with the enemies while you lot in jail Living your family.be human kamuchekas

  6. Whether you don’t want Lungu or not is no reason to boycott independence celebrations. In fact your action has just delayed Upnd ‘s ascendancy to power by a millennium. Lungu is not Zambia and was not there when people lost their lives during the fight for independence. Man you’re going to boycott your own food in your own house.

  7. Am tired of these tongas!!!i really wonder how their minds are!!!hh’s 5 time loses have made them all very bitter!!!these people will never appreciate or celebrate anything not done by hh!!!today we have two Zambia.hh’s zambia (southern,western,n/western and part of central) then we have Edgar Lungu’s Zambia-i.e;6 and half provinces (Lusaka and CB urban,Luapula,Northern,Muchinga,Eastern and bemba speaking areas of central)!!!!but this will cost upnd dearly as long as they keep hh on top of their tonga party-MARK MY WORDS!!!!everyday upnd actions are reminding other zambians how bitter and tribal this party is!!!THE GREATEST LOSER IN ALL THESE UPND UNZAMBIAN ACTIONS IS HH!!!TIME WILL TELL!!

    • AND WHAT TRIBE ARE YOU? AND DO YOU THINK YOUARE MORE SPECIAL, CREATED USING DIFFRENT MATERIALS THAN WHAT WAS USED FOR THE TONGAS? IF YOU DON’T KNOW ZAMBIA’S HISTORY AND HENCE DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY TONGAS ARE BITTER AT THIEVES AND CHANCERS THEN KEEP QUIET. ZAMBIA IS OUR LAND. DO YOU EXPECT US TO KEEP SMILING WHEN WE ALL CAN SEE THAT WE AREBEING CHEATED? WE SHALL KEEP FIGHTING UNTIL WE OVERCOME.

  8. Those who stay in glass houses should not be throwing stones. You are the same ps who was pleading for a job if upnd won and today you want to pretend like you’re 100 percent pf ? Shut up you double dealer or else we shall expose you so that you are fired.

  9. Every one in the province knows that you are a big water melon and yet you want to pretend just to please the one who gave you the contract.Just concentrate on eating than making noise about the innocent mayor who was attending a funeral of a beloved one.

  10. This week in India a wheel chair bound was attacked by a mob for not standing when the national anthem was playing. That’s patriotism!!!

  11. Don’t jst Change colours only but also leaders! Y shd u keep trying in vain? I mean losing elections for 6 times& u want to force yoself on members who ar also fed up of u! Let Cornelius Mwetwa bcom UPND president & Any UPND MP female VP! It will work out that way. Z is scared that dictatorship portrayed by HH in the party may b extended to the country & for that HH will never b voted for as president under UPND. Let him try bn an MP& Mwetwa will consider him as Minister of finance wen he bcimz President! Then Z wil run on budget surplus coz the man is a real economist in everything xcept in talking. Plz step down u selfish man so the opposition may form gvt in 2021.

  12. Politicians need to understand that there is a distinction betwee party events and national events. National events like Labour Day and Independence Day are supposed to be realised as days to reflect on milestones the country has or is yet to cover. I feel ashamed of such shortsighted (myopic) people who call themselves leaders. Leaders of who, if the guys are partially blind?

    • That’s correct. As a mayor you represent the whole town, your actions should be above party politics. If he cannot attend such events then he is not fit to be mayor.
