Share

Mwansabombwe District Commissioner Victor Kasuba has appealed to the department of wildlife in the Ministry of Tourism to quickly trace the hippo which has been terrorizing people in the Luapula river.

Speaking in a telephone interview with ZANIS in Mwense, Mr. Kasuba said last year, five fishermen were killed by the same hippo when they were fishing at Chandwe fishing camp near the Luapula river.

He said some fishermen have reported that they have seen the animal in Congo Lagoon near Chandwe fishing camp in Mwansabombwe district.

Mr. Kasuba said people in the area are now living in fear adding that if nothing is done, more people will be killed by the same animal.

  1. Hippos spend most of their days wallowing in the water or the mud, with the other members of their pod. When humans go near their habitat they should expect to be attacked.

  2. If you need the local river for water, washing etc then it’s more likely that there will be human-animal conflict.

  3. I THOUGHT THE HIPPO HAS BEEN TERRORISING PEOPLE IN THEIR HOMES, BUT, AFTER READING THE WHOLE STORY IT IS ACTUALLY PEOPLE WHO HAS BEEN TERRORISING THE HIPPO AND OTHER LUAPULA RIVER INHABBITANTS IN THEIR OWN HOME. PEOPLE, LEAVE THE HIPPO ALONE. IT IS NOT INVADING YOU IN YOUR HOMES. YOU ARE ACTUALLY, INVADING THE HIPPO AND IT’S PRIVACY. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HUMAN BEING, KANSHI?
