Mwambashi bridge along the Kitwe-Chingola road has developed cracks calling for urgent attention. The Road Development Agency (RDA) awarded a K562 million contract to Sino Hydro Zambia Limited for the construction of more than 45 kilometres of the dual carriageway between Kitwe and Chingola on the Copperbelt province in March 2013.

The contract was to be undertaken within 24 months from the date of execution. The scope of work was to include the construction of a new bridge at Mwambashi River and reinforcement of the existing bridge at the same location. The project was to be implemented over a period of 2 years and was expected to generate over 500 jobs during the construction period. However, running into it’s 3rd year the project remains incomplete.

Government has, released K25 Million to the two contractors to finish the constructions works of the Kitwe-Chingola dual carriage way.

    • Euro bond has disappeared but we can see a lot of unfinished projects, PF has done justice to GRZ coffers.

    • Is that a bridge a government can spend forever to finish? Whose ministry is this? People let’s shutdown that PF government, please close it.

    • Roads to nowhere in Chalala, Chilenje, and other townships are tarred but the Kitwe-Chingola dual carriageway and the Chingola-Solwezi road are in limbo. These roads are the real arteries of business in Zambia, not those in Chawama. But PF just want to win elections and steal in the process. That’s why Zambia is going nowhere with PF.

    • We need a commision of inquiry into how construction of roads costs $1 million per kilometre….not even roads in Nambia or France cost that much…

    • The bridge was not given to Chinese but cadre nephew to the so called man of action who on receipt of his first payment quickly bought himself half a dozen SUVs and that ended any activities on site.

  1. Pa Zed kuwayawaya fye. Does it have to take the District commissioner or whatever to make an inspection for action to be take? What is the work of the city council works (don’t know what they call it) department?

  2. These PF thieving monkeys were jumping on trees and buildings singing songs such as sonta epo wabomba and recently dununa reverse when they knew very well that the so called development projects were just implemented for them to steal money. Right now everything is on a standstill.
Secondly these Chinese contractors have been doing substandard jobs knowing very well that Zambia has Half baked engineers who do not know how to supervise the jobs.

    • They are doing substandard works as these corrupt thieves were awarding themselves these contracts then selling to Chinese contractors…why is it always Chinese firms being awarded these contracts? They are good at cutting corners and do not have ethics.

Secondly these Chinese contractors have been doing substandard jobs knowing very well that Zambia has Half baked engineers who do not know how to supervise the jobs. Very soon all the bitumen they have poured on the roads would be washed away.

  4. SONTAPO WA NYELA!!
KAMBWILI GLOBAL DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAMMES IN FULL SWING.
P.F, P.F, P.F! Why these Demagogues are still in power is mind boggling, & simply because majority of Zambians are dead mentally.

  5. Half billion of shambolic works…thats Eurobond they have misappropriated and we will pay for..thats how corruption works.

    • PF contracted a $450m loan to relay all urban roads and guess what? The awarded the loan to Chinese firm …I bet some of it was misapproprated towards the campaign.

  6. Mwambashi? Mwabashi? You guys pay attention to detail. Its part of your job as information peddlers to be precise

  7. Going to inspect a cracked bridge in suits. No wonder we’re regarded as lazy people. And the quality of the unfinished bridge leaves much to be desired. PF is full of thieves.

  8. The bridge is cracking even before it is put under the maximum load? For heaven’s sake, the top part is not even put in place!!This is a potential disaster that could cost lives.

  9. He was suposed to be in the company of Engineers, from what i can see he did not see a thing judging by the kind of people he was with.

  10. He was suposed to be in the company of Engineers, from what i can see he did not see a thing judging by the kind of people he was with.Carders inspecting a bridge ? what a shame government must get serious for once.

  11. The bridge is bound to crack and has even been even slow in happening.
With Sabina RATSA Road block mounted and all the heavy trucks resting on this simple bridge which was not meant for ‘parking’ Chingola Kitwe Chambeshi, Mufulira Road users better be ready for the worst.

The works should have been completed in March 2015, this is Nov 2016 and no one is being held accountable? RDA is really a joke!

  13. 562 000 000zmw/45km equals 12 488 889zmw per km. 12 488 889zmw /10zmw per usd equals 1 248 889usd per km of road constructed (1.25m usd per km)! What a waste of resources to corruption!!!!!!!
