FDD Presidential Candidate Edith Nawakwi
Edith Nawakwi
Edith Nawakwi is the sole funder of the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) Party for which she is President and any attempt to remove her will derail the party former FDD chairperson for energy Yotam Mtayachalo has observed.

Mr Mtayachalo said that most of the finances of the FDD had been coming from the party president Ms Nawakwi and that the party would stumble financially without her support.

He disclosed in an interview with Daily Nation that if Ms Nawakwi was not given another mandate the party would struggle to find its financial ground through another leader.

Mr Mtayachalo however said that individual members of the party also had been contributing to the party in whatever small way but that Ms Nawakwi was the soul funder.

“Ms Nawakwi like many other party presidents has been the soul funder of the party. So without her the party will struggle to find it ground through another leader. We all have been contributing to the party in whatever small way, I funded the most party of my campaign in the last elections” he said.

Mr Mtayachalo reiterated that there was need for the party to be self-sufficient and that it should not be dependent on any one person.

He advised that the party should have its own sources of income and maybe venture into business to sustain its operations.

Mr Mtayachalo also said that individual members of the party should be able to contribute financially to the party in whatever small way they could.

Meanwhile, FDD national secretary Nathan Mulonga said that Ms Nawakwi was still illegible to contest the party elections at the convention.

Mr Mulonga said that the party was not aware of any court judgement prohibiting Ms Nawakwi of contesting the party elections for a third term.

He said that there was no need to question how Ms Nawakwi had been supporting the party because she had done a lot for the party.

Mr Mulonga reiterated that aggrieved members of the party should not be rushing to the courts but seek an audience with the party leadership.

He said that all members were free to contest the party elections at the convention which he said would be held soon.

    • UPND (NEZ) really amaze me, do they really have a heart for the country for them not to appreciate difficulties the country is facing? I think they are cursed and it is better they never rule Zambia for good, they can easily waste this country away.

    • So FDD is Nawakwi, and Nawakwi is FDD. The two are Siamese twins sharing a single heart and a single brain. Away with both!

    • Most of the people promoting the changes in opposition parties are PF members who never raised a finger when sata was running PF without any elections for over 10yrs.They were instead saying that he deserved it because he created the party.Whats becoming clear is PF would like to eliminate techanically the strong opponents and remain with the likes of Tayali, muliokela,Edwin sakala, cosmo fimofimo etc.I don’t think the Zambians will allow you.

    • Let Nawakwi keep FDD as long as she wants to; and let FDD return the favor, by keeping Nawakwi as long as it wants to. As long as that alliance will continue, the two are headed to nowhere. Contrarily, let Nawakwi give up FDD today; and let FDD respond in kind by kicking out Nawakwi, FDD would have, in that instant, gained mileage. As I see it, Nawakwi is FDD’s biggest liability. She is not an asset. A liability is always a liability, never an asset.

    • Wrong thinking whoever this man is. That is the problem of not disclosing the source of the money these parties are dishing out to poor people like Mutayachalo. Opposition parties are funded. With or without Nawakwi, FDD will be funded and mutayachalo will still be fed.

    • This is total time wasting. With or without Nawakwi, FDD is going nowhere. How many MPs and councillors does FDD have? That’s your answer. Nawakwi can do whatever she wants with FDD – it is irrelevant.

    • DON’T YOU THINK REMOVING HER AS PRESIDENT DOESN’T MEAN REMOVING HER FROM MEMBERSHIP. IF THAT BEING THE CASE AS A MEMBER OF THE PARTY, SHE CAN STILL FUND THE PARTY. OR IS IT A CASE OF, “CUTTING A CAKE AND EATING IT YOURSELF?”.

    • Then she should be prepared to live forever and not die. Death will clearly derail the party.

This is the tragedy of ALL Zambian political parties. They are about INDIVIDUALS, not systems or mechanisms of making the lives of Zambians better.

Hence I never votes AT ALL for selfish !diots

  1. Personal to holder party. Even advice from opposition colleagues to say lets put our brains and resources together and support one another in the last elections fell on deaf ears . There is absolutely no differences in what all political parties stand for, its just the names that are different. Though I have no faith in all parties including ruling and opposition, the arrogance of FDD to join hands with others in the last elections is beyond comprehension

Are you drunk already? There’s no excuse for mediocrity. These computers come equipped with tools to make writing easy. You must be the type of people who voted for a mediocre president and sincerely believe he will develop the country. Well, he won’t.

  4. FDD party belongs to Nawakwi, she has financed it using her own cash,.if peope are not happy, let them also form and finance their own new party.
Zambians should learn to create their own and not always try to hijack other people’s creations.

  6. Sole party, one man, one woman, one leader, one chief, wamuyaya, only a tonga president, no rival party, sole economist, best-leadership-at-the-moment party, whatever you call it – no difference to me and it explains why they never become presidents.
Just look at the genesis of all the parties in Zambian history that have proceeded in one way or another to form government to date: ANC, later a faction to break away and become ZANC, later to become UNIP, MMD, PF. None of these were any of the above. It seems safe to conclude that Zambians do have a deeped seated suspicion or even hatred for such one man “soul” funded parties. And rightly so for which sane and patriotic Zambian will bequeath his rights, the rights of his children, bequeath our Zambia to clearly defined donkeys? Of…

Of course there is always the odd three regions but their thinking is way above the rest of us ordinary Zambians, they are superhuman and probably live on the hot Sun and breathe nitrogen.

    • Nez and Meimatunga, so you guys have no problem with HH being the sole president and leader of UPND without any challenge. In the US the democrats and republicans have conventions and primaries to choose their leaders. George Bush and now Obama shall retire from active politics and enjoy their lives with no hustle.

    • @9.3 Nzelu

On the basis of strength alone, I don’t see HH to be as vulnerable to challenge in UPND as does Nawakwi in FDD. Gone are the days of Anderson Mazoka. Gone also the saying: “Let a Tonga take-over from a Tonga.” HH does, now, enjoy political and leadership dominance, if not in the whole of Zambia, at least so within UPND. Let those who want to challenge him do so, albeit at their own peril.

    • @9.3 Nzelu

It can be argued that HH did not lose the last election. But that was stolen from him. That accounts for what I allude to as part of his political strength, at least within UPND. Nawakwi hasn’t got much anything similar to display. Her kind of politics has been the one of playing with toys and dolls.

    • Lungu and PF would like to contest against an unknown UPND candidate in 2021, and not HH. Hence this irrational focus on trying to get HH to retire from UPND. Unfortunately for PF, the PF failures will mount over the coming years from total incompetence and having dried the Eurobond pond. There will be no respite from poverty, powercuts, ginger and corruption. 2021 will be a nightmare for PF because even their strongholds will have realised their tribal folly.

  8. The nation should support Nawakwi so that we have a strong meaningful opposition likely to unseat PF. Currently UPND has let many people down because of lack of good morals. Zambia still have hope through FDD and Madam President Nawakwi.

After the convention our stack will be to mobilize local resources to keep the party competitive.
    Viva Nawakwi!

    • you literally have a big head. You go from discussing FDD to mentioning upnd. YOu seem threatened by the upnd. As things stand in the polls, HH has been voted as best politician of 2016 with lungu almost last. Surely this shows you that indeed many people have confidence in HH. You would rather criticise a man who worked hard to win and election which was stolen frm him by a crooked wanabe lawyer. Please ba edward i can see you are a graduate so please grow up and act like one. Learn to be objective. This is why they say that some of you are educated idiaaats.

There are glaring disparities between the two parties and between the two party leaders.

    • @12 Luapula Premier

I still beg to differ. UPND is not a replica of FDD, neither is HH a mirror reflection of Nawakwi. There are glaring differences between them. Each situation deserves to be treated differently and independent of the other.

  9. Let Nawakwi do herself a favor – she is a spent force; for her own sake, let her step aside for fresh blood to lead FDD. She inherited the party. It was not her creation. It was not founded by her. Let her relinquish her grip on to it and let go. She will be ashamed how much stronger FDD will become without her; and how much more formidable, financially, it will become. The notion that she is FDD’s sole financier is discreditable.

  10. IMWE WHY IS LUSAKA TIMES NOT ANNOUNCING THE WINNER OF BEST BLOGGER 2016? IT IS BECAUSE THEY DIDNT EXPECT A UPND SUPPORTER TO BE VOTED AS BEST BLOGGER? WE KNOW THAT NOW LUSAKATIMES ARE WORKING HARD TO FIX THE VOTES. THEY WOULD RATHER HAVE DUNDERHEAD LIKE MUSHOTA WIN. PLEASE WE DEMAND YOU TO OFFICIALLY INFORM US ON THE RESULTS. DO NOT DO A ECZ

  15. When this girl staged a coup detat against Gen. Tembi using the grudas she realized from the Carlington Scandal in which Zambia lost millions, the FDD had a dozen plus MPs, and now, they have zero MPs. Nawakwi is another Miyanda-ring lone wolf soon to be.

  16. Nawakwi is better off offering checks as an indivividual citizen rather than come in a face of FDD because she will save her fortunes from the many parasites in her party the FDD.

  19. that’s the way of African politics and Zambia in particular.. UPND,PF,MMD,FDD are all the same ,the one who pays the piper calls the tune, look what happened to ECL when he took over PF it took RB to rescue him financially and now he has enough money and connections to kick out the people who supported him (those he sees as competition)
