Mr Mtayachalo said that most of the finances of the FDD had been coming from the party president Ms Nawakwi and that the party would stumble financially without her support.
He disclosed in an interview with Daily Nation that if Ms Nawakwi was not given another mandate the party would struggle to find its financial ground through another leader.
Mr Mtayachalo however said that individual members of the party also had been contributing to the party in whatever small way but that Ms Nawakwi was the soul funder.
“Ms Nawakwi like many other party presidents has been the soul funder of the party. So without her the party will struggle to find it ground through another leader. We all have been contributing to the party in whatever small way, I funded the most party of my campaign in the last elections” he said.
Mr Mtayachalo reiterated that there was need for the party to be self-sufficient and that it should not be dependent on any one person.
He advised that the party should have its own sources of income and maybe venture into business to sustain its operations.
Mr Mtayachalo also said that individual members of the party should be able to contribute financially to the party in whatever small way they could.
Meanwhile, FDD national secretary Nathan Mulonga said that Ms Nawakwi was still illegible to contest the party elections at the convention.
Mr Mulonga said that the party was not aware of any court judgement prohibiting Ms Nawakwi of contesting the party elections for a third term.
He said that there was no need to question how Ms Nawakwi had been supporting the party because she had done a lot for the party.
Mr Mulonga reiterated that aggrieved members of the party should not be rushing to the courts but seek an audience with the party leadership.
He said that all members were free to contest the party elections at the convention which he said would be held soon.

Let Nawakwi keep FDD as long as she wants to; and let FDD return the favor, by keeping Nawakwi as long as it wants to. As long as that alliance will continue, the two are headed to nowhere. Contrarily, let Nawakwi give up FDD today; and let FDD respond in kind by kicking out Nawakwi, FDD would have, in that instant, gained mileage. As I see it, Nawakwi is FDD’s biggest liability. She is not an asset. A liability is always a liability, never an asset.
Wrong thinking whoever this man is. That is the problem of not disclosing the source of the money these parties are dishing out to poor people like Mutayachalo. Opposition parties are funded. With or without Nawakwi, FDD will be funded and mutayachalo will still be fed.

On the basis of strength alone, I don’t see HH to be as vulnerable to challenge in UPND as does Nawakwi in FDD. Gone are the days of Anderson Mazoka. Gone also the saying: “Let a Tonga take-over from a Tonga.” HH does, now, enjoy political and leadership dominance, if not in the whole of Zambia, at least so within UPND. Let those who want to challenge him do so, albeit at their own peril.

It can be argued that HH did not lose the last election. But that was stolen from him. That accounts for what I allude to as part of his political strength, at least within UPND. Nawakwi hasn’t got much anything similar to display. Her kind of politics has been the one of playing with toys and dolls.
Lungu and PF would like to contest against an unknown UPND candidate in 2021, and not HH. Hence this irrational focus on trying to get HH to retire from UPND. Unfortunately for PF, the PF failures will mount over the coming years from total incompetence and having dried the Eurobond pond. There will be no respite from poverty, powercuts, ginger and corruption. 2021 will be a nightmare for PF because even their strongholds will have realised their tribal folly.

The nation should support Nawakwi so that we have a strong meaningful opposition likely to unseat PF. Currently UPND has let many people down because of lack of good morals. Zambia still have hope through FDD and Madam President Nawakwi.
