Tributes in honour of Mama Salome were full of praises of her as a mother to many who welcomed everyone and played a special role of taking care of freedom fighters.

And President Lungu said that she occupies a special place in the history of Zambia and the story of liberation struggle.

He narrated his last encounter with Mama Salome when he visited her at her farm and inspired by what he shared with her described Mama Salome as a mother, mentor and counsellor.

He urged mourners and all Zambians to emulate her. President Lungu also described the family of Salome and her late husband as one that promoted the motto of One Zambia One Nation given the intermarriages in the family.

President Lungu remembered how when he was growing up some families would discourage their children to marry from other tribes and hastened to mention that it was not the case with the Kapwepwe family.

The fact that she continued to live among her people in Chisala has been described by Mr Lungu as a sign of humility and a deep sense if loyalty to her people. “Go well. You gave us love, go well”, said President Lungu who was occasionally seen trying to hold back tears but nearly broke down as he concluded his remarks causing dead silence among mourners.

Speaking earlier former President Rupiah Bwezani Banda recounted the warmth, love and care he enjoyed from Mama Salome and her family.

He revealed that he was interviewed by the husband of Mama Salome and recommended for a scholarship as part of the programme to educate further leaders during the freedom struggle.

And Dr Kaunda commended President Lungu for making possible for all the former presidents to join the mourners with him to give Mama Salome a befitting sendoff.

Dr Kaunda urged President Lungu to continue with his kindness and spirit of embracing everyone.

  1. Rip mama. Pf has indeed led to the death of many. I know most of you will now go on to insult me rather than ask why I think as I do. Listen under pf we have seen people taking law into their own hands due to poor rule of law hence increase in wife killing husband cases. Alot of stress due to high cost living has led to people dying in unexplained circumstances. Rip mama

    • Iwe NEZ, stop the foolishness. Mama Salome Kapwepwe has lived life to her full potential. I a mum slightly younger than her and still alive. But I also have a dad who is older than her.But should God decide to take him away, I cannot blame it on PF. Whether it is PF or UPND in government, Zambians will still die. Are you telling us Mama Salome Kapwepwe’s death was avoidable? Stop joking with the grief of others. Grow up. You do not endear people to yourself through such kinds of silly jokes.

    • Why did Edgar breakdown in tears? Humility is to live a humble life. I never heard of Salome Kapwepwe Foundation like the Ester Lungu Foundation. I understand why Edgar wept.

    • NEZ (Uneducated UPND) choose when to talk politics and when not especially when people are mourning. Would you be happy if its your mother who died then you start bring politics because of few alleged criminals in remand? HH is not the only zambian in remand that we should be having sleepless nights he is just one of the trouble makers enjoying his time in prison for he is not above the law.

    • It’s shameful that Upnd cohorts show bitterness in everything and against everyone. The topic is not about Lungu.

  2. may you rest in peace as you join your husband in eternal Godly love and the light shine on your bereaving family with whom we join in prayer for God to give them solace.

  3. It’s very sad that the wife of a lion Simon Mwansa kapwepwe should be sent off by two foreign presidents from Malawi.

I’m sick and tired being ruled by foreigners. Zambia is for Zambians.

I have great respect for bembas. It is not easy to find bembas running around in other people’s countries doing fake jobs but Chewas and Ngonis are a disgrace to zambia. But I also know most of these guys are not Zambians but their get Zambian passports.

    It pains me alot.

    • @DJ Deno. No better words can describe you. Which foreigners are talking about? These are indigenous Zambians may be it is you who is an alienate.

  4. I remember we visited you palya pa lupili in the company of George Mukosa and ba Yulaya. So warm I feel your welcome up to this date. The Great Freedom Fighter who sacrificed everything for the freedom we are now enjoying. Rest In Eternal Peace Mama Salome Kapwepwe
