Government has said that the Zambia’s economy remained stable in the first quarter of 2017. Minister of Finance Felix Mutati attributed the stability to the exchange rate which is now trading at 9 Kwacha 50 ngwee against one U.S dollar.

Mr. Mutati said that inflation has also gone down during the first quarter. The minister of finance further said that the external reserves by the Bank of Zambia are beginning to slowly build up.

Mr Mutati revealed that Government is currently able to contain borrowings as it has started paying arrears to pensioners. Mr. Mutati told Znbc news that stability is important as it is a basis to inject growth in the economy.

And Mr. Mutati has advised the Catholic Church to be engaging Government in dialogue before making any statement, stating that it is important for the Catholic Church to have a productive conversation where it can have first hand information on different issues.

Mr. Mutati was speaking this morning at a fundraising breakfast meeting organised by Mtendere parish in Lusaka to raise Five Hundred Thousand Kwacha for various projects.

He said President Edgar Lungu has emphasised that leaders need to be communicating with people in communities and develop a spirit of bonding with all Zambians.

Mr. Mutati contributed Ten Thousand Kwacha and said he will campaign and engage various stakeholders to help the church.

Meanwhile, Mtendere Catholic Church chairperson finance committee Glenda Mwela thanked Mr. Mutati for gracing the occasion.

  1. In Mutati’s dream, in his sleep; not to an average Zambian!!

    • This is the kind of information that is causing stomach cramps to all UPND cadres because their wish is to see things getting worse. Sorry guys its a stable economy for the first quarter and our reserves are building up.
What does this mean? listen carefully….
It means we have enough good economists to run our economy, implying that HH economics can be used at his farm.
Against all wishes by the miniority group composing of UPND, we are doing well as a country implying that either join us in celebrating the good government of EL or forever perish in bitterness.

    • Multi-disadvantaged and poor Zambia. PF is as effective as ebola in destroying the economy, just like ebola wipes off africans in munitues…Elo ebola ilifye muchende…naingila mu Mafikeng and Chililabombwe from Congo DR…Kwena mukose bane, the next thing as getting banned from traveling out of Zambia so you die quarantined…useless drunk Lungu

    • Zambia’s sovereign debt levels have risen well above 35% of GDP, a major jump from five years ago when Zambia’s debt-to-GDP ratio stood at levels below 25%. The crippling debt levels are becoming unsustainable but then government is not slowing down on spending. The reluctance to tax the mines is beyond my understanding. Mutati is just media savvy; acting like a parrot with offering up any real solutions

  2. I don’t trust Mutati from the 1st time I met him with a very young girl. From then on I knew he is nothing but a corn man.

He is also a thieve from kapatu. He has grown old simply by changing political parties. I wonder what kind of human beings that vote for these guys?

  3. Only with a PF government do we hear inflation going down, exchange rate improving, reserves building up all this in parallel with record numbers of people dying in UTH, 300/Month, maunitition at record highs with Zambian children and increased unemployment.

  4. “Mr. Mutati contributed Ten Thousand Kwacha and said he will campaign and engage various stakeholders to help the church.”
That’s the only trick they know bribing with stolen funds from us!!

  5. Bring back Bwana Magande- that guy was the most insightful and visionary finance minister Zambia ever had .

Mutati is a confused “Mr more debt and more poverty ” guy.

  6. Mutati can spew propaganda but the truth will always freem him. The Zambian Economy is in the doldrums and that is why Mutati has been negotiating with IMF for $1.6 billion Loan as Balance of Payments and Budget Support. The IMF Money is not likely to come due to various toxic issues. The arrest and imprisonment of HH constitutes Gross Violation of Human Rights and the IMF Board cannot approve a Loan which the Illegitimate Lungu govt will use to persecute the Opposition further. No Petition Hearing,No Recognition and No Financial Assistance. Release HH unconditionally, unharmed and let the Petition be heard in an impartial Court.

  7. Mutati reminds me of a Cross country runner who starts very well and losses steam in the race and and comes out last.

He has no integrity. He likes to give out information that is not close to the truth.

He should be replaced as soon as possible if PF Government want to survive.
