The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says it has sealed and iconcluded negotiations with MAFRO to become a new kit sponsor of the Zambia National team.
ZANIS sports reports that FAZ General Secretary Ponga Liwewe confirmed in a statement today that the kit sponsorship deal between FAZ and MAFRO is for a 2-year period.
“As an Association we are proud that this deal has been unveiled when the junior Chipolopolo participates in the 2017, South Korea U-20 Fifa World Cup,” he said.
The decision to engage MAFRO as a kit supplier of our National team is based on MAFRO’s successful and illustrious global partnership with various clubs and national sides.
The Zambia under 20 national football team who played Portugal in their openning group group C world cup played at the Jeju World Cup today clad in new kit.
Zambia came out on top in an intriguing tussle with Portugal to get the edge in FIFA U-20 World Cup Korea Republic 2017 Group C.
According to the FIFA website, both sides set up playing to their strengths: Portugal limiting the space, favouring their technical prowess; Zambia sitting deep, containing and looking to strike on the break.
Chances came at both ends, with Zambia being saved by Moses Nyondo – blocking Diogo Goncalves goal-bound strike, before the game kicked up a gear after the break.
The African champions started the quicker and made it count.
Enock Mwepu’s shot wrong-footed Diogo Costa and, though the keeper produced a fine reflex save, Edward Chilufya was on hand to tap in.
With that, the game opened up. Portugal were not short of opportunities. Diogo Goncalves and Andre Ribeiro both had their share, as well as the creative Xadas – who shone in the first period and waned in the second – but spurned them.
So, when Fashion Sakala struck a solo second with 15 minutes to go, you thought it would not be the two-time U-20 World Cup winners’ day. Shimmying past two defenders, the Spartak Moscow man fired in at the near post to seal the win. Helder struck in stoppage time following Mangani Banda’s save, but it was too little, too late.

Mediocrity at play at the Mediocre FAZ secretariat managed my Mediocre officials. Otherwise how can we settle for such low quality replicas. And isnt this the same replica deal FAZ denied they had signed a couple of months ago. What has changed now.

In the UK when a club signs up a kit sponsor or underwear sponsor they disclose the value of the deal …why is it in Zambia the sums are hidden from the public…why??Pongwe and Kamanga we know Mafro is a cheap outfit but don’t treat us like kids the way that Great Galu used to treat us. Tell the people the value of this deal!!
Mmmmmm the good performance of the U20 has clearly saved Kamanga from itching critics and I can sense the frustration. How I yearn to see the day when Andrew and Great Kalu will genuinely join hands for the common goal of developing soccer in Zambia. We’re blessed to have the two sons who clearly are influential on the world stage. United we stand divided we fall!
