Ex-Chipolopolo and Nkana defender Mordon Malitoli believes Zambia has the potential to reach the final of the 2017 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in South Korea.
Zambia meets Germany in Wednesday’s last 16 encounter in Jeju after winning Group C with six points from three first round matches.
Speaking from his Kitwe base, Malitoli rated Zambia’s display so far at the global championship as excellent.
“They are doing well. So far so good, their performance is excellent,” he said.
Coach Beston Chambeshi’s side beat Portugal 2-1 and Iran 4-2 before losing their final group stage match to Costa Rica by 1-0 on Saturday.
Malitoli advised the Junior Chipolopolo against complacency.
“They should not relax. The boys should work extra hard so that they can reach the final,” the 1994 Africa Cup silver-medallist said.
“They will make it to the final. I am very sure they will make it,” Malitoli added.
Zambia’s last 16 rivals Germany finished as the best third placed side from Groups A, B and F.
As ex international, Mordon has not said anything new about the U20’s performance at the tournament. Anyone inexperienced in soccer matters can almost say the same things!
