MMD Die Hard Youths National Coordinator Gerald Chiluba says people should not abrogate the law in the name of freedom of expression.

Speaking when he featured on Joy FM’ s interactive Radio programme Talking Points on Sunday, Mr Chiluba said there is so much ” nonsense in the country” because people were abusing their right to express themselves.

He said freedom of expression should not be a free pass to abrogating the law.

“It being abused because people are speaking carelessly, people are using this expression to abrogate the law that is why we are having a lot of nonsense in our country.

“That has the potential to incite people not to obey the laws of the country or submit to the government of the day especially when it is coming from a political party because that party has a following and what does that message send to the community and the people in their party structures? It will bring about lawlessness in the country,” he said.

And Mr Chiluba has called on politicians to start practicing politics that champion the agenda of a common Zambian.

He said political parties and their leaders should refocus their energies to offering positive checks and balances and add value to the growth of the country as opposed to being at each other’s throats all the time.

“What should be done is that number one, can we begin to play politics that is aimed at championing a good agenda for this country? We need opposition political parties to be giving us a basket of broad policies.

“We feel the way things are being done it is not correct. Why can’t we offer positive criticism by offering solutions. If we start saying why can’t we put into practice such policy because it will achieve ABCD or D because that type of critical opposition will add value to the growth of this country not just criticising without offering solutions,” he said.

Mr Chiluba who is also former Copperbelt University Students Union(COBUSU) president explained that no single individual has the collective wisdom to run the country hence the need for every well meaning Zambian including the opposition political parties which he described as the government in waiting to offer solutions as the point of getting into government was to better the lives of people.

Further Mr Chiluba advised political parties not to be oblivious to the fact that governments are systems which must be used by anyone who ascends to power.

“A government is a system, today we can be in the opposition and say that when we come back into government we are going to do ABC or D but there is a system in government, my Comrade here from the UPND can say when we form government we are going to do this and that but when they get there they will find the same system which the PF are in today, they are not looking at the issue at a bigger point of view, they think that when they get there, they will be just pointing at people and saying hey do this or that, but no we don’t operate a country like that,” said Mr Chiluba.

  1. MMD are only functional as a party on the paper.

    They are defunct in reality.

My point is, this is an irrelevant statement

    Thanks

  2. Is government operating system heaven made that it can’t be changed? Come on ka chiluba don’t think you will use DOS operating system for ever and ever. You stu pid bleeding bloody coacoroach.

    • His behavior is so BBC=born before computers, even some bbc like general miyanda has accepted change so dramatically. What’s wrong with these bleeding bloody pf bloody sucking leeches.

  3. This message is meant for UPND, they are the trouble makers on the political arena.

If Zambia was a class room, UPND would be in group 3 full of bullies and over matured men with beards in shorts.

    • munone unfair statement coming from you; the UPND has no platform for free speach; the trouble makers are from your PF party; if any party has divided Zambia with their speaches it is your party the PF.

    • @Munone! keep quiet for once, you don’t bring anything constructive to the debate. you support even feaces for as long as it is in PF attire. grow up.

    • HH has been insulting he president up until he was put behind bars. GBM had also been doing the same, together with Garry Nkombo and only stopped when their small god was bundled behind bars.

So what are you talking about? What platform were they using to insult the president? Just because the truth has been slammed in your face doesn’t make it less truth.

UPND needs to change leadership, the current crop is thuggery and have no human face. Learn from Sinkamba Peter who is issue based.

  4. I was in the emeralds area when a rumour picked from social media was spread that President Edgar Lungu had been arrested and HH e.

  5. ..and that HH was going to be sworn in today. You could see a few excited faces. That’s how bad it has become.

    • PF and Lungu are hated. There’s no hiding it. Zambia feels so much like in 1991 when Kaunda had a one way ticket to his peasanthood. Deja vu!

  6. Another useless PF/MMD cadre; those of us who fought KK’s dictatorship know what we’re talking about freedom of expression; wait your time of reckoning shall one day come.

  7. Very very true Gerald, there is a lot of nonsense that is taking place in the political arena here in Zambia due to indiscipline on the part of the so called power hungry politicians like Mulongoti.

  8. Sometimes when you are jobless, you give yourself a job to prove your relevance in society. Gerald is just doing that. The young man need to do a project to change the face of the nation rather than him parroting his ignorance…. There is a life bigger than politics… He can grow tomatoes or rape and sell at Kasumbalesa rather than call himself ‘Die hard’. Die Hard for what? What is his investment plan or business proposal as a die hard? what he is dying hard for? for MMD ,UPND or PF? Let him set up high principles for other fellow youth to emulate….
We need serious local investors especially the youth.. Equally, Mushota can demonstrate her PHD and share her investment plan for Zambia rather than blogging all the time.

  9. Kiki what has the mmd president pf cadre mere finance minister got to say about this. Useless bunch

  10. A more fundamental question to ask is: do Zambians have freedom? A country which does not allow demonstrations is nost democratic. In SA, PF were allowed to demonstrate at the Zambian High Commission and the DA were also doing the same. And Demonstrations happened less than 12 hours of DA leader Maimane being deported. So, if there is no freedom for divergent views, then do not kexpect checks and balances, progress, development r

  11. Gerald is right when he says opposition should not just be there to oppose even when its not worthy to do so but to offer solutions to the many problems this country is faced with. If freedom of speech has no limits then why have laws that govern what we say? In fact insulting has become a norm in today’s communication especially social media because your identity is hidden. But one day it shall be exposed and get those that insult into trouble. Gerald, you do not owe it to anyone to say what you are doing for a living but what am sure of is the fact that you have some sound education and that is a good springboard to understand things faster and be able to analyse effectively.

  12. Gerald you are also enjoying the same freedom of speech that is why you have been given a platform to speak your nonsense.. is your nonsense better than others.
