Kamanga: Zambia U20 has set a new blue print

Share

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga says the Under-20 team’s success is his administrations’ blueprint going forward.

Kamanga also described the Zambia U20 teams success as a major score for his executive after poor start to his term at Football House.

Kamanga began his reign on rocky note with failure to qualify to the 2017 AFCON just weeks following his election before they were hit with a Under-17 age-cheating scandal at the Cosafa U17 Cup in Mauritius including failure to qualify for the U17 AFCON Cup.

“As the Under-20 team, I think the journey has come to an end and obviously the next stage is the Under 23,” Kamanga said.

“So clearly, for the Under-23, we have built a strong foundation and I think we have an opportunity to start preparing the team for the 2019 AFCON which will obviously lead into the 2020 Olympics.

“From where we stand as FAZ, I think first things first, we are very proud of this team it is a project that we started last year after coming into office with very disappointing results with the senior team, and even the Under-17, we didn’t do very well.

“So we put more effort into the Under 20 in the hope that we would archive something.”

  1. A while man will never allow an African country to win the World Cup. They know we are better than them, so when they see that we are approaching the finals, they use Referee’s to stop us. These are the questions you African Football Association Presidents should be presenting to FIFA. What’s the purpose of taking part in a competition knowing that you won’t be allowed to pass the Quarter finals?

Our grandparents looked forward to winning the cup, our children will also die hoping.

    • Nigeria has won the U17 world cup before. We have our own defense and technical staff to blame for conceding so many goals and blowing leads. Boys did what they could but glaring defence issues and slow tactics let them down. Back to the frustrating drawing board.

    • “we are very proud of this team it is a project that we started last year after coming into office” Problem no1, STOLEN success will not lead you anywhere. The achievements made by this team started long before last year. Airtel rising stars, soccer academies, Former FAz executive did a lot of foundation for these boys when Kamanga and team were busy fighting Kalu. Lets not celebrate quarter final elimination as success. we won AFcon in 2012 and what happened afterwards? a shadow of ourselves. If you say you have a project started last year, why then has the senior team performed badly within the same project year?

    • Theres no glory in defeat country men……a tournament is all about a trophy.PARADING the boys thru the streets of lusaka without a trophy shows our thinking LEVEL as a country.

  2. Bashooterz, your comments really shoots your name. The Kamamanga admin found nothing to be proud in terms of proepr management of FAZ which previous faz left.Things were done haphazardly, no proper directions.faz were being managed by remote control and too much financial demands by the leadership then.Muletasha, amano kwati ni chichi, the disguised man!!!

    • Shallow thinking you also. Do you think within 1 year you can build a team to compete at that level? hate kalu or not, his team deserves praise. responding to your comments lowers my thinking. sorry

  3. Desperate for success to brag for. What success did we achieve? What did we do that we haven’t done before?. We didn’t win the tournament and you are calling it success? When will Africans find the urge to win like Americans do?

  4. GHANA AND NIGERIA WON UNDER 20 WORLD CUP.IT IS NOT ABOUT BEING AN AFRICAN BUT READING GAMES BY AFRICAN COACHES IS SO BAD.
CHAMBESHI FAILED TO READ THE GAME AND THE DEFENCE CONTRIBUTED ALOT.
HOWEVER,THANKS UNDER 20 AND WE ARE WAITING FOR UNDER 23.
THE UNDER 20 SHOULD BE MANAGED WELL AS WE HAVE A SENIOR TEAM IN WAITING,WHAT MATTERS NOW IS THE FOOTBALL ADMINISTRATORS TO ENSURE THAT THESE BOYS ARE NATURED WELL INTO SENIOR TEAM.
    EMMANUEL BANDA MY PLAYER.

  5. What a lie ba Kamanga. “it is a project that we started last year?” Takwaba! Projects take years to bear fruit. This project has been there longer than one year. You claim that this is your blue print what blue print do you have for Under-17 Chipolopolo and Under 23. Lishuko fye ukuti mufike mu quarter final.

  6. Please support Kamanga stand behind him…when the Great Galu was there eating all the money for youth football you never complained…even donating footballs to kids to cover up!

  7. Comment:It is a process and not an event ba Kamanga. It started way back . U should acknowkede the work done by the. Kalu administration.

  8. That is the difference between Home coaches and expatriate coaches.Ability to read the game and make tactical changes when it matters most. How did 10 man Italy beat Zambia?Tactics. You are leading 2-1 and 3 minutes left, Why not pack the bus, and then bring in speedy fresh legs and make the Italians run.?
FAZ send this team to this years COSAFA competition so that they can mature fast to be under the 20s and prepare for the next under 20 world cup qualifying matches.Ensure that you get an expatriate coach, not ba chipantepante coach

  9. The boys did very well. Defense need fixing going forward. Mwepu, fashion, Edward Chilufya, Solomon Sakala and Patson Daka need to be introduced to the senior team. I think they are ripe. Let them start on the bench first.

  10. I think they can be tried in the U23 and see how they do. It would do them good.
Perhaps, the U23 team, could be further strengthened with the talents from the U20. and, more effort needs to be put into the guys who will be our defense in the u23, going forward.
Senior national team, yes a few can be put in. One thing I can see is that Fashion, is a match winner. He takes the game personally, its been long since we saw a player who would decide to score…. and score. Our former Captain Christopher did that a couple of times but not with the same scoring success. Our Kalaba is good, and tried, but the scoring success is not the same. He just needs to work on playing for the team more. As for his emulation of Ronaldo… He surely is replicating the goal scoring form. Model after all the…
