esident Edgar Lungu has directed the Civil Service Commission and the Teaching Service Commission to promote professionalism in the two sectors.

President Lungu says he is saddened with the conduct of some civil servants who have continued positioning themselves for political positions and working against government.

The Head of State says there is need to bring sanity and professionalism in both professions for the country to develop.

President Lungu emphasised that politics should be left to politicians.

The President was speaking at State House when he swore in veteran broadcaster Dickson Chasaya as Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission and educationist Stanley Mhango as Chairperson of the Teaching Service Commission.

And in an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. Chasaya said he will use his experience as a former civil servant to instil discipline in the civil service.

Meanwhile, Mr Mhango said he will work with Teacher Unions to sensitise teachers on the importance of adhering to ethics.

  1. Being anti government doesn’t necessary mean someone is unprofessional. You can be pro government but still fail to perform your duties professionally.

In this era of multipartism, government should not be always running scared of people who are not pro-government. We inherited this thinking from UNIPs one party state. We should change our thinking to embracing one another regardless of party affiliation. One Zambia One Nation should be our Motto on the job. Party affiliation should not define our professional conduct.

    • Its him(Jameson Chakolwa Chagwa Kadansa Kamwendo Lungu) who is being unprofessional in this country with the entire pf minions.they are busy plundering our economy…

    • LOMBE, READ TO UNDERSTAND WHAT SOMEONE (THE PRESIDENT IN THIS CASE) HAS SAID. DO NOT RUSH-READ FOR ONLY GIVING THE FIRST COMMENT ON THE BLOG. IN FACT ALL CIVIL SERVANTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE PRO-GOVERNMENT POLICIES. THIS MEANS THAT THE CIVIL SERVANT’S JOB IS TO IMPLEMENT GOVERNMENT POLICIES. IF YOU ARE AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY, I DON’T SEE HOW YOU CAN IMPLEMENT THE POLICIES OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY. YOU WILL BE WORKING AGAINST ALL THE GOVERNMENT’S DEVELOPMENTAL POLICIES.

    • @ Peter 1.1 That is exactly my point. You need to do away with that kind of thinking. That’s UNIP mentality. Wake up to the era of multipartism. Civil Servants can work in Government but belong to an opposition party. In America, they use a word, NON-PARTISAN. You can be a government employee but still be non-partisan. To think that only rulling Party members should work in Government it’s ignorance. Beginning with the highest Civil Servant to the lowest, they need to be professional regardless of Party affiliation.

  2. Congratulations to both appointees. I hope ZNBC will find another seasoned anchor for the popular Bemba program Kabusha takolelwebowa for which Mr. Chasaya is renowned.

  3. Civil service Commission to be headed by a former broadcaster? Should have gone to the Licensing Board. We have many retired civil servants who know the ropes of the service well but not to worry life goes on until another 4 years we can see how change comes. We need a new Sec to Cabinet and Sec to Treasury like yesterday

  4. Chasaya is a cadre…. He will blow the captain ‘s trumpet… The man is old beyond 60 years and talks a lot but no action…. Another Chanda Kabwe or Kampyongo style.

  5. Its him(Jameson Chakolwa Lungu)who is being unprofessional in this country with the entire pf minions.they are busy plundering our economy…

  6. “President Lazy says he is saddened with the conduct of some civil servants who have continued positioning themselves for political positions and working against government.”
Really laughable utterances by this Lazy Bum Edgar even as a lawyer he can not even be more accurate….you have those two civil servants in RSA and Sweden writing books and pro-govt articles you never say anything.

  7. Lungu has no authority to tell any one to be professional because he has never shown to be a professional in his career. He has been a cheat thru out, wormed his way to power and finally became president thru the back door.

  8. What about those civil savant(police)who defalcated in the accused house? Is that professionalism? Don’t be one sided in your rule. Uphold and protect the rule of law

  9. Our President is now becoming much more a complainant, than a solution to our cries. Every time he takes on stage, is complaining, warning and accusing. Is this what is going to transform our dwindling economy?

  10. Gaddafi’s last words as he begged for mercy: ‘What did I do to you?’ People don’t seem to learn from these vital lessons. I leave it to masses to make the judgement if people where right to do what they did to him. If so, why did he say those words? Was he mislead by advisers or was he just deaf to peoples cries? Do not trod on people’s emotions because a dangerous person is one that bottles the up and explodes even where it is not necessary.
