THE implementation of a solar energy project worth US$30 million in farm blocks has delayed due to inadequate information provision by Government on the areas to be developed, Gridbow Engineers firm has said.

Early this year, Government granted Gridbow Engineers, a South African firm, the rights to supply affordable solar energy to farm blocks in Zambia worth US$30 million to meet the electricity demand.

The project is expected to be initially, implemented in Nansanga, Luena, Manshya and Lusiwasi farm blocks.

In response to a query on Tuesday, the company said the funders require certain key information to enable them proceed to the next stage of the project.

The response states that the information relating primarily, to the farm blocks have not yet been availed to the company.

“I am afraid the project has suffered some unforeseeable delays mainly due to lack of detailed information on the farm blocks from the government,” the company notes.

The company is hopeful that the information will be availed before close of the year so that the project can be implemented.

During the implementation of the project, Gridbow Engineers will partner with Government to supply power to the farm blocks through the Ministry of Agriculture.

  1. AS MUCH AS THE INFORMATION MUST BE SCREENED FOR NATIONAL SECURITY REASONS THIS KIND OF RED TAPE AND UN-NECESSARY BUREAUCRACY ARE THE ENEMIES OF DEVELOPMENT AND PROGRESS!!!! THIS IS WHY WE REMAIN BACKWARDS!!!!

    • The South African have to learn from the Chinese…for any project to be commissioned in Zambia universal lubricant is necessary to oil Sate House through Kaizer, the Advisor of corruption and brutality.

  2. Was AVIC screened for security when given its contracts, was topstar screened for security before given access to our national broadcaster was topstar screened before given access to digital migration.
Tell what national security issues surround solar power.
Just be honest and put it done to our work ethic and bureaucractic red tape.

  3. It would be helpful to name a few names and mentions certain government departments. Government operates through functionaries that man different units and departments. It is necessary for investors to be specific about delayers and fraudsters. The country is thirsty for the green energy and it is irresponsible for officials to act irresponsibly. Or is this simply intended to be a witch hunt? Let us hold our leaders accountable in a transparent manner in order for the country to achieve national goals.
